My friend is in the Movie with jim brown. Original . Gangster... D u r.... Down. And I knew Paul Moody. I was on stage with him at the black Repertory theater. North Oakland California
@Sharkeyes 980 He was a football player and actor in the 60's and 70's. He was very talented. Still alive today. Check out the movie 100 rifles. He was great in there with Burt Reynolds and Raquel Welch.
Agree 100%. However I read somewhere that Jim Brown was offended that Richard used that in a performance. He believed,it was said, that what happened was private and shouldn't have been divulged that way. I think he's mistaken there...Pryor was trying to pay tribute to him.
R.I.P. Jim Brown. Brown's reaction to Pryor's horrific addiction is something that we should all aspire to: succinct, honest, non-shaming/blaming, no-bullshit, and full of love.
It may fly over peoples head or just seem like a joke but when Rich eludes to the pipe talking to him in that seductive voice...As a former addict I can tell you it is that powerful...
@@georgefinn2054 Thank you! I found good support many years ago started jogging quit smoking and all the other habits I had .(crack, cocaine, cigarettes drinking, weed). Today I could not be enticed to do any of it ...but I certainly understand the psychological power these habits have on people.
You are either trolling, or you truly prefer that EXTREMELY overrated comedian, that midget Kevin Hart, from the BEST STAND UP COMEDIAN, ever(personally, i prefer curious George Carlin). I do not know which is sadder, valuating yourself from spending your precious time lying, or being very, VERY WRONG!?
As a teen, I was drawn to Richard Pryor because I was just old enough to think it was mature to hear lots of cursing and jokes about sex. But thinking back, I know that I listened to it over and over because of his brilliant narrative sense, and his willingness to put himself on the line with his soul-bearing material.
Everybody needs a Jim Brown in their lives. Maybe you're not in the depths of addiction, but we all get a little wrapped up in our demons, and we need someone who can help. And if you can, be the Jim Brown for someone else.
I was playing with one of my dogs tonight, holding one of her toys over her head and dangling it in front of her, saying to her “now what’cha gonna do, what’cha gonna do?“ And all of a sudden, Jim Brown and Richard Pryor jumped into my mind. So of course I had to go look up this scene on RU-vid and listen to it one more time, probably for about the 1000th time, and listen to the heartbreak of friendship versus addiction. I am 72 years old, and this scene still strikes me as hard as the first time I heard it probably 40 years ago. Still just as powerful and just as true.
Jim Brown has stated that he "felt betrayed" by Richard Pryor for using this in his act, and that Richard was the only person who ever hurt him on a personal level in his lifetime.
He was the best rb.. set records with much shorter seasons.. but Jesus Christ.. look up what has come out about him. He was close with hef and had his own room at the mansion and it turns out he was into doing coke and violently raping women hef sent to his room. He sent nearly a dozen to the hospital with broken ribs, jaws, arms and internal damage from butt rape. Heff paid them and the hospital staff off to keep it all quiet.. horror show
@@billt8504 Bill Russell knew how to be serious when it was necessary, but few people laughed and smiled more than he did. Jim Brown on the other hand, seemed to be serious almost all the time.
I have actually used this routine when I talk with my inmates about addiction. This works way better than the standard approach, because it shows an understanding of what they're going through. Their response has been positive.
I want to take a moment here because I knew it growing up, but the younger generation may not know how absolutely raw and honest Richard Pryor was, about his life and about the trajectory he was on. Pryor was seriously honest about his flaws, and tried to articulate his pain through humor. He wasn't trying to make pain funny, but he was trying to make people understand pain through humor. God bless him and I will never NOT find his humor funny, even when it's uncomfortable.❤ Prior Left us lessons for precisely how Fame works and how quickly it can break you if you aren't careful. ❤
Nobody was nearly as funny as Richard Pryor. He didn't tell jokes, per se. He told funny stories that often were insights to his life and world. He exposed the world to his faults and we all laughed at his pain. Blessings to all that knew and loved him and blessings to all that still are listening to the pipe.
Richard Pryor brought us along for the ride of his life! It was amazing! Two icons gone if you were there when their fame was in its prime, you know you're old. Both are missed and loved!
Richard was so brutally honest, because he understood you got to be real and if you aren't real, then you ain't shitt.. He understood the fact that only God could judge him. I watched that gig as a teen and always respected him.
If we only understood the fact that God can only judge us, we would be terrified of His Righteousness and Holiness and not use it as an excuse to do whatever we want.
They say that Jim Brown was offended when Pryor used this in a concert. I don't know why...Richard was,in his way, paying tribute to him...expressing gratitude, admiration, respect.
Damn his jokes are just stories but his delivery and interpretation of things is just so damn hilarious. Richard Pryor really lived a crazy and wild life. He is missed. RIP you legend you
I think of all comics, Richard was probably the nicest and honest guy out there, Chapelle and Eddie in their prime were great and extremely funny. But Richard had really seen things and he just told about those things. Anybody who ever had the pleasure of just meeting and talking to Richard properly, I bet they ended up loving him. And I don't mean "fan" but "caring".
Got put on opioids for chronic back pain and became a FULL BLOWN ADDICT. Even tho my back isn't better, I gave up ALL opioids, drugs, and alcohol that I was trying to kill a pain that couldn't be cured by what I was medicating with ON TOP of still chronic back pain. 2 years sober, it's your story and mine that help others open that conversation. It led me to write my comeback song and go solo. Everyone has a chance to turn it around AND YOU CAN!
He was such a master storyteller that his real-life was so much of his act. And how he made it sound like a story and not real life, wasn't until I was older did I find out most of his stories were real and nothing was exaggerated.
I love Pryor I consider him the greatest comedian of all time. And I felt sorry for how broken he was. I love this bit as Jim Brown was always there for Richard. He looked out for him more than most. Shame Richard Pryor blew his friendship. As he seems one of the few people in his life. That genuinely cared for and tried looking out for him.
The version on the album is funnier😂 especially when Richard said "WHY IS EVERYBODY TRYING TO RULE MY LIFE?! I DON'T PUT YOU DOWN FOR LIFTING WEIGHTS!!😂😂😂
He was so honest with hilariousness. Years ago, I was in Seattle..walking down a snowy hill..got confused and paranoid....walked ALL THE WAY BACK UP..DIGGING IN SNOW...I CAN LAUGH..YEARS LATER.. MT. RAINIER..stopped me
Richard transitions into character so smoothly, you can tell a lot of folks bit his style. Robin Williams, Dave Chappelle, Jim Carey, Bernie Mac, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, etc
Yehp..but Wheres Bill Hicks.or before that 'Lenny Bruce', Eddie Murphy Martin Lawerance Dave Chapplle.i beleive theres these Greats coming along always.just my observations.:-))
He did. From childhood on. I remember hearing some of his latter-day interviews, or really just off-the-cuff discussions about life and his thoughts on it. Not funny. Dark dark dark. He was an incredibly intelligent and complicated man and one of the greatest comedians of all time.
