What a singer and actress Dunja is!!! My favorite Ortrud.

Frankly the thing that most amazes me is how a conductor can have the stamina to drive such a magnifient piece, so nuanced in every moment with its ups and downs. Having to be totally on the ball for almost four hours without the slightest opportunity to relax your grip...

Watching this in 2023, I am hardly used any longer to watch a Wagner opera actually telling the story and not some adolescent nonsense.

Thanks for uploading! The voices are impressive - and these famous singers are still so very young!! But I have to say that I don't really like Abbado's interpretation of Wagner's Lohengrin. It’s incredibly slow and static. He alsmost puts me to sleep during the first act. And while I love Placido Domingo in many roles, he isn't really a Wagner tenor. His intonation doesn't sound quite right. But since the GraiI Castle might be in the South of France or in Northern Spain, Lohengrin could have a bit of an accent and the southern flair of a Latin lover 😀 I could accept this, if the direction and the music wouldn't be so slow and static. I vastly prefer Christian Thielemann's Lohengrin interpretations.

A great performance, and complete, too. The Lyric Opera here cut the Third Act Prelude, Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral, and most of the Morgenrote. Wish I could find a dvd of this. I didn't expect Abbado to be this good in Wagner. From Chicago, U.S.A.

Espetacular apresentação. Plácido Domingo na realidade bate o recorde em Na diversidade de papéis. Ninguém lhe supera. Não esquecer as Zarzuelas.

Diese Komposition schuf Wagner in Teilen an der Lochmühle im Tal der Wesenitz in Lohmen/Sa. Im Ortsteil Mühlsdorf. Dort steht heute noch das größte Wagnerdenkmal der Welt. Geschaffen von Prof. Guhr.

INCROYABLE ! Je pense que c'est le plus bel opéra de Richard WAGNER et la meilleure interprétation - Je suis "amoureuse" de ce compositeur depuis mon enfance durant laquelle mon père m'a bercée à la musique de cette homme dont l'oeuvre est immense. J'ai assisté à TANNHAUSER à Bayreuth l'an dernier mais la mise en scène et les costumes étaient si choquants, si minables (je pèse mon mot !) que j'en ai pleuré. Alors cette version de LOHENGRIN, dans la pure tradition, ce n'est que du bonheur ! Et pour finir le plus grand des ténors de son temps Monsieur Placido DOMINGO à l'apogée ici de son talent. Merci à Claudio ABBADO que l'on ne présente plus et à son orchestre magistral. BRAVO Mille fois BRAVO à tous !!!

I always burst into tears when Elsa's younger brother is finally revealed alive and they reunite. This was done so well in this production. So very moving. The emergence, costume, the family hug perfectly timed. It makes everything before it even more gratifying because of that moment. The quest ending and the witch Ortrud declaring that she was behind it all. Incredible opera.

Subtitles may be correct but in parts much too soon. For example the "I lost my honour" is shown in the subtitles while Telramund is still telling us that he wants to die because of his misery.

Superb all 'round. Great costumes too; so tired of business suits, high-vis and T-shirts for the stage. I get to see that at work every bloody day, why would I want to see it at a production of Wagner?

El coro final del acto I, "Ertöne, Sieges Weise!" es monumental. El "In fernem Land", de Plácido Domingo casi en el epílogo del acto III sublime. Le otorgaría las 5 estrellas a esta producción 😎
