I usually find Rick and Morty's meta humor to be obnoxious and age really poorly, but the story train episode is awesome. One of my favorites of the whole series.

It is meant to be cheap jokes. It's not meant to be quality/smart writing, it never was but people think that because it mentions science it is advanced comedy or someting.

In general I agree with you, but every once and a while Rick and Morty will put out an episode that does have something genuinely interesting to say, or even just that contains really witty and funny jokes. The show was never what Reddit claimed it was, but that doesn't mean it was never well written.

Ofc they choose interesting topics for their plots and they are fun on their own right, but most of what they show is either lolRandomXd or poking fun at something. The only thing that varies is the depth of the jokes. Also not like adding random-funni stuff is bad, i enjoy it, and plenty clearly do as well.
