I remember this when he did 20 years ago. He was only known for the office at the time and he absolutely slaid the room with this acceptance speech funniest thing of the night. Made a lot of people sit up an realise there's more to this guy than just an actor

@@JGarner.2004 Most American comedians are trash and all their jokes revolve around picking on people in the crowd like Reggie from the nutty professor. Although I have to admit that Kevin hart is an exception, and so is David chapelle although I find sometimes he’s not that great.
The British crowd's used to taking the piss out of one another. Ricky & Steve were born of that. America is pretty hypersensitive these days, political correctness & all. Ricky hit the nail on the head when he said that most of Hollywood was perfectly OK with what he said, thot it was very funny, but were probably concerned about being SEEN laughing at their colleagues expense or worried they'd be next. The audience at home, on the other hand (myself included), was cry-laughing!!
Compare this crowd's reaction to that of this year's Golden Globes where most of the room didn't get it or were too precious to take anyone having a dig at Hollywood and it's night and day. His Golden Globes stuff wasn't any more controversial than the stuff he does here about Hawking.

Often directors, writers and other cast members hate the input the producers have, so they made a joke saying they appriciated the input and then started laughing about it.
The same kinds of jokes at the Golden Globes, and all of the Hollywood weirdos were offended. Humor must contain some truth, or it is meaningless and unfunny.
