I seriously didn't notice the time passing. This interview was just brilliant. I think this is the first time I saw Ricky Gervais as a human being rather than Ricky Gervais the comedian. There's not an iota of pretense in him. What a guy :)

I like it how he casually gives really great advice. That's what I like about him , he is a very honest person , who most importantly stayed true to himself, since The Office . He is one of the rare famous people, who I know , would be really amazing to be friends with. He is one of the most authentic people I knoe

I adore and respect Ricky so much. He is a shining example of a true comedian and deserves every bit of fame and fortune he has. And much as I love his televised comedies, the best and funniest work he's done were the things he did "for a laugh" as he put it, like the XFM years & subsequent podcasts and Idiot Abroad :)

Mr Ricky Gervais is my idol. I wish I could be like him- very real person so dark and funny - he makes me re-think things I believe in wish I could tell him what I think of his views on God.

Ricky makes more sense then Anyone I've ever heard when it comes to religion.. Prove it.

Gervais is a complete genius, not only his comedy but also his writing and his character creation. I think his latest pilot for 'Derek' absolutely proves this beyond doubt.

Great interview, he finally seems comfortable enough to take off his comedy mask and give a straight, serious, thoughtful interview instead of constantly looking to insert a gag into the conversation (which makes his comment: "the least funny thing is someone desparately trying to be funny" all the more ironic). Don't get me wrong, i think he's hilarious when he does crack jokes, but it was nice to get a deeper, more thoughtful insight into his opinions about comedy for a change.

This goes against everything I believe in when it comes to either classic films or tv shows but I'd love to see a third series to both the office and extras but I know it shouldn't happen... both of them closed satisfactorily so there is no need !

Best was Ricky Gervais at I think the oscars introducing Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutcher's father and Bruce looking so uncomfortable.

If Steve Merchant's CV hadn't been on top of that interview pile at Xfm, Ricky would probably still be bumming around from office to office. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Ricky fan, have been since "The 11 O'Clock Show" and "Meet Ricky Gervais", but he has a lot to thank Steve for - I've just never heard him say it in any interview.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to Ricky's movie The Invention of Lying. Seems a lot of Ricky's fans don't recognize a chunk of his work seeing as that person was voted down so much.

The reason it worked in America, was because it was rehashed for the American sense of humour. In its pure form, I don’t think the Americans would have liked it, obviously neither did they, thats why the remake had very famous American as the lead character, Ricky Gervais was unknown in England when the Office came out.

The office is not just funny. Its a masterpiece. I got recommended other shows like extras, alan partridge, only fools etc.. funny sure but office is in another league as maybe memento or pans labyrinth. oops! Not startin a fight. Just MY thought.

To question re American success of the Office " well, MY influences are American..." Merchant's touch is all over the things that made the office well rounded and it troubles me that only through gritted teeth will he mention him. Bit sad, really.

Ricky Gervais is the absolute living legend to me, but I disagree with one little thing. I think that Jerry Seinfeld is an overrated comedian full of negativity and snobbism and I don't get why he gets so much respect from Ricky.

I've tried but I don't like Louis CK. I don't know why he just doesn't seem as intelligent as Gervais. Perhaps it's because I agree with Gervais on everything but instantly disagreed with the first Louis thing I saw and comedy needs to be truthful. My favourite jokes I don't necessarily laugh at them, I think about how they were made and try to "appreciate" them instead. Laughter seems to come randomly you can't guarantee it even if it's the best joke.
