I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea about this one... It was on a tape, incomplete and has nothing to mark what it is; though it is rather interesting to see how technical and scientific they get in this video.
However; kind viewer ‪@flatoutflatbroke‬ has kindly provided us with this information from “Genome” which this channel uses regularly. But no references to search; until now!
Genomes Description is as follows:
Riddles of Ball and Cue All the things you never realised you wanted to know about snooker - such as why a straight shot can be rolling in both directions, and why playing from one end of the table is different from playing from the other. Steve Davis , the World
Champion, takes on Peter Lawrenson , a scientist.
With the help of slow-motion cameras, specially marked balls, an executive toy, some coins, a computer and even an electric drill, their unusual contest offers some unexpected revelations.
But no prizes for guessing who wins the game. Series editor DAVID FILKIN Producer CHARLES HUFF
So thank you ‪@flatoutflatbroke‬ !
No Infringements Intended. Please feel free to add whatever you wish.

This was (I'm fairly sure) an episode of Q.E.D. called Riddles of Ball and Cue which according to BBC Genome was broadcast on 17/04/1985 at 21:25 on BBC One. The programme description is, "Riddles of Ball and Cue All the things you never realised you wanted to know about snooker - such as why a straight shot can be rolling in both directions, and why playing from one end of the table is different from playing from the other. Steve Davis , the World Champion, takes on Peter Lawrenson , a scientist. But no prizes for guessing who wins the game."

Yes - this seems to be an edited version of that. I remember watching it back in 1985 as a budding snooker/pool player and still use some of what I learned from it even today when playing! The programme was much longer - 45 minutes at least, maybe even an hour. It stood me in good stead too - I never became a pro, but played County pool for over 10 years and played in the World Championship qualifiers a few times in the late 90s. Beat a few pro players and even a couple of former world champions in competitions on the way too!

So do I. The sort of thing that would have still been airing in 2006 at 04:30am on BBC2 for you to tape.

Brilliant stuff! I, along with other commenters, can confirm the details. I will never ever forget this program as it taught me how to pot by explaining the straight line through 2 balls to the pocket equation. I was however disappointed to see it didn't have the bit of the program which was also burnt into my mind, namely the 'robot' that could pot any ball. It was, from my memory of when I was 14 and watched it originally, a small frame of black metal with a cue tip which was only a few inches long and motors in it. It was placed on the table and (I don't remember this bit distinctly) presumably had a red laser sight in it which enabled it to pot any ball on the table. I know it's not your editing though. P S. You HAVE to edit the title to read 'Cue' and not 'Que' .... Much love and thanks for the memories ❤

That’s fantastic. Comments like this are why I capture these old videos! I can’t believe how many people are commenting on this little slice of history. Apologies about the missing robot bit though! The way I work, is I buy or collect peoples old tapes usually before they get binned, and just see what’s on them by fast forwarding them and stopping when I spot something good. I think this had been cut off either end by something not very worthwhile. (Usually a film; but films are already available on Netflix, so no need to save if you know what I mean?). Maybe someone else out there has the other half of it and we could join them!
