That driver did so well they caught up with the other ambulance. Well done. Your off side was no help at all.

When you are driving a ambo you can only go so fast and you have to almost stop at every red light and stop sign. Plus if the patient does not have sever or life threatening injury's they wont kick on the lights and sirens. Yeah it sucks but not much can be done its a safety issue.
@mr.moostache6740
@mr.moostache6740 8 лет назад
I agree with Ty. Better to arrive on scene first, and if the victim is in bad condition when you arrive, at least you got there soon enough to treat the patient than get into an accident, and by the time another ambulance arrives, the victim is already dead.

Teempla it’s actually quite typical for the driver to be in control of the sirens while driving. Though I do agree his partner should be helping him watch for traffic and such instead of chatting on his phone.

When I’m driving I like to control everything about the ambulance including the siren and air horn. Usually my partner is setting up the epcr, reading call notes on the MDC or if I need it he’s helping me with the route. Otherwise I’m left to my own devices to get us to the call safely

In some States/cities it is illegal to run a red light to clear a spot for first responders. The extent of your responsibility as a driver is to move to the right. Running a red light, even to make room for an emergency vehicle is still running a red light and creating a risk of an accident.

@rescue911.eu-worldwideemer3 7 лет назад
the ambo of that area was already on another call that's why they had to send units of another fire station. however an engine was available and therefore on scene very quickly. so i do not really see a problem here as help was there very fast. concerning NYC i don't share your opinion. i had the opportunity to ride along several times with fire and EMS units and i can tell you that it happens quite often that you have to wait 10min for an ambo, especially in rush hour. however, just like in my video if it is a critical medical call a FDNY engine is also dispatched which means that help can be at your position very quick. engines are usually faster because of the many fire stations in the city.
@StyxRiverGynoid
@StyxRiverGynoid 7 лет назад
The service area is kind of challenging. On top of res & comm, I-495 beltway is right there too, with a major back route into DC running right through the middle. There's enough coverage between Riverdale, Riverdale Heights, College Park, Bladensburg, Berwyn Heights, and Hyattsville that there's a lot of people, but the distance to higher care ends up with some longer out of service times (especially if it's Medic 25 on an ACLS run). That aside, there's a lot of firefighter/paramedics there, and you're likely to see an engine show up with or before the rig does. Just wish they could get more career in the houses, but that's budget/policy.

Excellent response except the driver of the ambulance you are in is driving one handed pretty much the whole way with the other hand on the siren panel. Driver should have two hands not the wheel at all times, let the passenger do the siren control.

In PG, the medic is the paramedic unit from the county, as opposed to the ambo, which is run by the volunteer department.
@slayslayslay
@slayslayslay 9 лет назад
Wow that's a lot of inaccurate responses. The term ambulance is just a vehicle type, dame if you were to say truck, car, bus, engine, etc. The medic unit typically would mean it is staffed by paramedics, if you were to hear aid unit it would typically be staffed by EMT-Basics, it doesn't matter if they're paid or volunteer their are plenty of paid EMT-Basics.

Whether career or volunteer, paid or not, we all (FREMS) must maintain our professionalism and training at all times while on the job which includes volunteering. I noticed the operator’s hand (just one hand) at the 12:00 position and, moreover, the vocabulary choices of the AIC during the last few seconds of this video. They must have forgotten all about being videoed. This is not a good PR production.
@russ8059
@russ8059 6 лет назад
Welcome to normal ems where you drive however is comfortable because your other hand will be controlling the siren.
@shprus
@shprus 6 лет назад
Modern ambulance design (with siren controls remotely operated) accommodates safety (with floor and steering wheel controls similar to late model auto stereo controls). Additionally, with the use of headset radio and intercom communications, the operator’s hands need not leave the steering wheel. Thus, BOTH hands remain in the recommended positions for driving.
