Okay so I've been reading the comments and I gotta say I'm a volunteer firefighter but we Have standards like out the door in 2 minutes and full PPE to be worn. It bothers me that y'all say volunteers don't care because they aren't paid but that's a lot of crap it's not about the money it's about saving lives and helping your community if u don't care you need out of the fire service

@ExtremeGamer55 Im on a volunteer company. If I acted like these guys i would be asked to never return. Yea, its probably nothing, but you still at least don bummer gear and a helmet, they didn't even have pants and boots on.

I'm a Volunteer Captain and its slightly disturbing that these FF's don't respond very quickly at the station, I'm not saying to run, but lets be moving with a sense of urgency gentlemen, because that one time out of ten it will be a serious call where some ones life could be at stake.

Tevano thebest you clearly are not on the job because as much as that does happen your only going to get the job done I'd your in full gear and it's done properly..... just because some guys do it dissent mean it's the norm...also these guys never NOT 1 OF THEM ever geared up.... Very sad performance. Firefighters should always expect to turn the corner and see fire.

If I was the Chief, I would be pretty embarrassed about this crew and this video. Really unprofessional, and it just creates a bad image of volunteers everywhere even though there are plenty of really good ones. And sooner or later they will all be deaf since the headsets are just hanging there unused...

First of all In PG County: AFA's are just pants; we only put on SCBA's for Box alarms, Street alarms, CO Leaks, and auto fires................. Second of the Q , powercall and air horns are not gonna hurt your ears so much in the cab that you need hearing protection, if you can't handle that, then you can't listen to music in your headphones. And I've seen females put their hair in a nomex hood. Welcome to PG ZCOI

This is a live-in volunteer department. They should not be wearing khaki shorts. All member on that engine should at minimum have a department T-shirt and blue/black pants/shorts, more specifically Fire/EMS type. Also, its a fire alarm in a residence. All members should be in full gear in case this "Mostly likely a false alarm", is actually a real fire. My department would suspend me if I walked up to a residential fire alarm like this.

@Emsworker68 I agree, the appearance is awful. It does not matter if it's a paid or volunteer fire department, that does not mean they should look like that. If I did not know any better I would have though the guy walking up to the door was just a random person. My FD they are dressed professionally and when they walk up to you or your house you know they are with the FD not because the apparatus but because of how they are dressed.

These guys give volunteer firefighters a bad name. The "officer" did not even approach the resident in a perfessional manner. The department that I was last on we were expected to be geared up and packed up for anything from a automatic alarm to smoke in the area to a full blown structure fire. Even a auto accident we had to have our full gear on for. What a joke these guys are.
@CaliforniaZephyrProductions
@CaliforniaZephyrProductions 9 лет назад
davebutcher2011 everything does depend on the department. When I get a MVA call, we just get in our bunker boots and pants or, being a volunteer group, sometimes just throw someones gear in the rescue truck so we can leave right after they get to the station and they wait till on scene to gear up.
@davebutcher2011
@davebutcher2011 8 лет назад
+Tevano thebest a lot of volunteer departments have a bad name. The last department I was on there was no smoking in rig or the station. Period. Even though we were Volunteer we were expected to act and be professional at all time, both in our department life and in our personnel life. No matter what the call was whether it was a structure fire, report of smoke, or a alarm going off we were expected to be fully ready to fight a fire. That included the officer being fully geared up. Yes I know all about responding full bore to a fire alarm sounding and the pain and hassle of getting geared up but that is part of the job even as a Volunteer. On the department I was on there was no excuse for the way these guys acted. If we did not act professional we went before the senior firefighter, officers, and the chief. One night on the way to Station 2 for a structure fire I was pulled over by the police for a headlight that was out. The next morning I was called into the Chief's office to explain why I was pulled over while responding to a call. We had a really bad fire one day that reported Children trapped and I cut through a parking lot about two blocks from the station. The senior Volunteer Captain of the department's wife saw me do this and the next time I was at training the Captain and the Volunteer Chief called me into the office and let me know that this was not except able. Yes every department is different and yes things are stated here that complain about how these guys act. It is mainly the fact that there are departments out there that expect and require a more professional attitude from the Volunteers. Because I do not agree with how they acted do I respect them any less for what they do......NO I DO NOT. But we are all allowed to express our thoughts and views.

And the biggest issue that I have seen is that those few seconds of getting geared up can mean life or death if it is a actual burning building with people in it. Remember even the most routine call can lead to somebody being killed.

1. No one's dressed in gear. Im 16 & in a firefighter training program, our department requires full bunker gear & SCBA for ALL AFA calls. 2. The one guy who walks out of the office with hair down past his shoulders looks like a hippie, not a firefighter. Most department's you're not even allowed to have long hair because it can get in the way. 3. The officer is smoking as he leaves the station. Volly department or not, they aren't at the top for performance.

@301whitehall Naw dude your right. That guy should cut his hair. I don't see how he get's away with that. Turning out with long hair is not to smart plus going into a fire with long hair isn't smart. Not to mention if he puts on his SCBA mask he's going to feel the heat really bad.

Not using headsets; probably not using seat belts; officer-in-charge not dressed to lead (what if the wreck call was a car fire?); shifting an automatic; no one out of the engine when it backed up in the cul-de-sac; and the list could go on and on. I think this volunteer company is part of the Prince George's County FD, a career-based department. Citizens donate millions of dollars to these volunteers; they should receive more than they appear to be getting.

A trash man expect to turn the corner and see trash, thats his job, as firefighters we should always expect to turn the corner and see fire, thats are job. But you can't roll out of the station without your PPE on, you treat every call as a working structure fire. That guy in the back has a bad attitude and no room for it in the fire service.

I think the negative comments are getting a bit out of hand here. They are out the door in two minutes. Seatbelts, you can not see that in the video. PPA would be nice, but depends on local policy, type of call, and so on. IF you are in an FD that does some things better, good for you. If not, why don't you give them a break. Because RU-vidrs criticizing professionals after watching a short video rarely get it right. But of course, the youtube smartass brigade always knows best.
