your reviews are much better than EBR. Wonder why EBR spends very little time on the bike, going thru the assist levels. I find that very odd. i think showing off what the assist does is the most important part of an e bikes review. thank you. also like the 1st person camera angle with views of how you are pedaling.

@Big poppa, thanks for watching and the compliment. I am really trying to limit my talking about the bike and concentrate on trying to give a feel for how they ride. The pedal camera angle can be tough if I have to try and ride one handed while filming! Have a good one!

@ electron surfer did you ever find out if this was a 12 pole cadence sensor. One of your main concerns was how slowly the motor starts and stops. If this is a standard 12 pole sensor maybe I should stay away from cadence sensors in general. If it has fewer sensors, let us know. Thanks for your honesty: this was a great review.
@ElectronSurfer

@al padrino, i replied to your other comment, it is a 6 magnet sensor. I tend to be very critical and honest in my reviews which manufacturers don't always like, maybe not the best way to make money with reviews, but it's my style. Thanks for the compliment.

Any thoughts vs the Aventon Pace 500, which has hydrolic brakes but doesn't have suspension forks..Big deal or not? Also, any update on your very nice and worthy RideupCity would be great......Thanks for your diligence...
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 5 лет назад
@jono5900; Personally I don't think that those two features are deal breakers. Depending on where you ride the suspension forks may be important, i find a wider tire is adequate to deal with most of the surfaces I encounter. With the brakes i don't notice a huge effort or performance difference between mechanical or hydraulic brakes. I put up a video showing my more extensive riding of the Ride1up, my overall opinion of the bike hasn't changed, its a great bang for the buck that has a few shortcomings. I will be selling it just so i can get a RadPower or Aventon to review and ride.

@Electron Surfer Do you have any calipers to measure the diameter of the seat tube? The clamps that I'm seeing are for diameters 31.9mm, 35mm, 36.4mm. Also, since I don't have the bike, looking at the rear axle from the video, I only see 2 eyelets on the right side where the derailleur guard is mounted on, and just one on the left side. Considering that also the fenders have to be mounted on as well, are there enough eyelets to mount a 3rd party rack? Thanks.
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 5 лет назад
@TheNature101, I measured the seat tube diameter at 31.8mm and ordered one of the clamp mounts on amazon. I also bought the Ibera rack, I'll verify mounting points tonight but i'm pretty sure i saw that it would work before placing the order....I hope I did anyway!

Sizing - I'm interested in the Step-Through, but not sure the frame will be large enough. I 5'8" 32 inseam, Arms from wrist to arm pit 24". What is your opinion? I think the medium large would be fine but prefer step through
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 3 года назад
@Terri Mitchell, Which of the bike series are you looking at? Bike fit is pretty tough if you don't have a bike now you can use as a go-by. That being said, your height and inseam should enable you to fit on most of these ebikes, even though the step-overs run a little big. It looks like the step-thru for each bike has similar dimensions. I am looking at getting a 700 step-thru to review and I think it would be a good fit. The reach should enable a really upright posture.

Since you've had the bike for a few months now, can you tell us how many miles you put on it and how the battery is aging and what is the range you are getting now versus when it was new. Thanks.
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 5 лет назад
@EverythingElectric , I haven't ridden the bikes as much as i'd like because of the weather. I have done a few more range tests that i'll be detailing on another video. So far i have 132 miles on the bike, in assist level 5-6 (as low as i'd ride honestly as it cuts out at 15-17 mph) i got a max of 38.8 miles of range., in assist level 7 i got 28.8 miles. All of these are much less than advertised. I haven't noticed any battery degradation as of yet. I do get frustrated with ebike/escooter companies grossly inflated range estimates.
@TheNature101
@TheNature101 5 лет назад
@@ElectronSurfer Thanks for the info. I agree with you on range. On my ride1up, starting with a fully charged battery (meaning green light on the charger that charges my battery to 54.1V or 4.1615V/cell on the voltmeter (instead of 100% at 4.2V/cell and 54.6V). So at a discharge of 46.8V (3.6V/cell) or about 2 bars left battery capacity on the battery display and 3 bars on the LCD display (BTW at 3.6V/cell this site says it's only 5% capacity left www.powerstream.com/lithium-ion-charge-voltage.htm ), I get about 25 miles with assist level 9 with speeds 21-23mph on a pretty flat road (elevation and wind cancels out as I do half going and half coming with 130ft down elevation going and 130ft up elevation coming). So I'm looking to buy another 48V 10.4Ahr (or larger up to 19Ahr) Reention Dorado battery and carry it on the rack as the 30 mile range does not cut it for me. Of course carrying an extra battery will also lower the range due to the weight.

How would you rate the feel of the moustache handlebars? I am thinking of these in the context of a 6 mile commute ride. I would generally have riser bars on any bike as i dont care for leaning over, and with a power assist I suspect I can get away with a more comfortable upright position. thx
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 4 года назад
My only issue is for narrow shoulder people these handlebars could be a little wide. I personally really like an upright position on ebikes, even for the kind of commute you have. I hope that helps.
@joshuasepe4322
@joshuasepe4322 4 года назад
@@ElectronSurfer Yes thank you, it does. Generally the first thing I do with any bike get the handle bar position up one way or the other. In the case of the 500, its not as though one would be working aggressively to get to point B so may as well be comfortable.
@josephbrauninger5871
@josephbrauninger5871 5 лет назад
How much adjustment do you have in the handbar stem if so is a quickadjust optional? I notice yours was all the way in when you rode.
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 5 лет назад
@Joseph J. Brauninger, the bike has a fixed low rise stem (90mm reach with 10 degrees of rise per the website), i can verify this if you'd like. The only adjustments would be the move the two spacers letting you move them about 1/2-inch down or to flip the stem which would have it angling downward. I sure you could put an adjustable stem on the bike, i don't think Ride1up has that option. I do like the no tool required stem that some ebikes come with. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the in-depth review. Is it sponsored? Probably yes. If so, you should disclose that at the beginning of the video. The delay in stopping the assist is a major problem. It is a safety issue. I really hope ride1up ships these bikes much more carefully in the future, also. In any event, your review has helped me to make a decision on a bicycle purchase.

al padrino, this is NOT a sponsored review, i bought the bike on my own. The price point was a good one and a way for me to dive into doing some reviews without a huge investment. @@ElectronSurfer No worries James. This is a common partnership of discounting people willing to review. You and I are both in favor of full transparency, I obviously did not have the ability to influence your review. I do not wish to argue with Al padrino again on another platform. This cadence sensor is the same as most others. The delay in stopping the assist is a sacrifice worth the savings in my opinion. You are welcome to buy a torque sensor. Everything in life is a cost benefit analysis. Once you adjust to the cadence sensor it is not difficult or unsafe. Also, touching our brake levers automatically shuts off motor assist. Making the output from pedal assist quite safe.
@TheNature101
@TheNature101 5 лет назад
@@ElectronSurfer @al padrino @Ride 1UP Every rear hub Bafang motor e-bike that I have ever test ridden, they ALL had some delay in stopping the assist. Some more some less. Even ones that had a torque sensor on top of a higher precision cadence sensor. Does anyone know what cadence Pedelec sensor they use (5, 8, 12, etc.. magnet sensor? Or is it something else? In any case all of them would have some delay but the less magnets the more delay. Could the cadence sensor be swapped with a torque sensor for faster response?

Also, is it possible to measure the standover height (they say on the website is 28" so I just want to confirm) and the min and max height of the saddle from the ground to the top of the saddle (bike should be completely vertical and not leaning on the kickstand)? The seat post should have markings on it that state you can not raise it more than that. That mark is the max height. I truly appreciate it. I'm really interested on that ebike but the data out there is not complete. So many thanks.
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 5 лет назад
@TheNature101; the standover height is 28.5" and minimum saddle height is 34". Tire size is 700x45c, i'll look for the rim ISO number if i can find them. I got most of these specs in the video but didn't get the max saddle height, i'll make sure and include that in the future. One note is the City and MTB modes of this bike have different size tires. You can also email Ride1up, they are quite responsive. Thank you
@TheNature101
@TheNature101 5 лет назад
@@ElectronSurfer This is why I want someone who has the bike to measure for sure. On the web site they say Min saddle height is 30" while your measurement is 34". @@ElectronSurfer Those fires were terrible and unprecedented so I pray you and your family are safe. BTW, on the rack, I mainly need to know if it will install and how secure is it. Because on the non-drive side, I only see one extra eyelet were the fender is mounted (the other two are for the brake calipers). So on the non-drive side, the rack and fender will need to be secured by the same bolt, and I don't know how stable and secure that will be. On the drive side, you have the 2 eyelets that the derailleur guard occupies. So again, one of them (probably the lower one) will be used also with the fender support and probably with the rack support as well. I don't yet have the bike but I agree on your conclusion of the rack and fenders. I already have lined up which ones to get (I include them at the end of the post) but the rack is going to require drilling 2 new holes on the seat stays to be secure. Otherwise a custom bracket that attaches to those 2 current bolts on the seat stays, but is going to look ugly as hell. And here is the problem with the current rack they sell. IMO #1 it is bolted on the seat stays too far forward towards the seat tube, and #2 it does not have separate pannier bars. BTW, those look like Ortilieb panniers (I have the same ones) and you can flip that U bar to be closer to the top of the rack so it can attach more securely. rack: Ibera Bike Rack - Bicycle Touring Carrier Plus+ for Disc Brake Mount fenders: Planet Bike Cascadia bike fenders - 29" x 65mm since no front eyelets: SKS Bicycle Suspension Fork Fender Stay Attachment Clamp

@TheNature101; yes those are Ortlieb panniers, i'm a big fan. You can also use P-clips or a diy version using stainless plumping strapping. I'm going to do a video about this and test the rack capacity and how it holds up with some loaded panniers and weights. It looks like the Ibera rack will work, as should the Axiom disc rack with just a little bending of the upper support arms to meet the upper seat stay braze-on. I've also used seatpost clamp mounts effectively in the past.

@@ElectronSurfer I would love to see that video. And just wondering how strong it would be versus drilling and putting 2 eyelets on the seatstays (where they should have been all along IMO).
