I love how you push bikes to test their capabilities and am excited for the possible upgrades. This is now a serious contender for me as a commuter that would alsoballow me to hit a couple of fun trails and cut down my commute. Without the exorbitant cost of a true emtb.

can't wait for the bar/stem swap ! I dig the bike, should be a great gravel grinder, i'm curious to see the range of it on a classical fast rolling gravel ride, on the first assist setting too !

Amazing how black fork stanchions go such a long way towards making a bike "look the part" these days. The Rekon Race tires are also a surprisingly nice spec. It's not an e-mtb at the end of the day but still looks kinda fun on dirt!

Finally the *right* combination of features breaks the 3k USD list price. If they put this combo in the scrambler/cafe style of frame it would eat up the rest of the class in a few years.

No way those tires came on the bike! Looks great with them on tho

I had a Raleigh bike with a brose mid drive that needed a new chainring, you needed a special tool to replace it, Raleigh discontinued the bike and I could not find it anywhere and my local bike shop would not touch it... lesson learned, do your research before you buy

You feel like there was enough power out of that 250 watt motor? Didn’t seem like you had any trouble climbing those trails.

Put a 130mm RS yari, stem, bars and a dropper post on it and the bike will kick some ass 😀

The Enviolo is not made for enduring high torque life. The Brose unit still has the belt inside, what might pose a weak link. Nice Commuter/Gravel bike overall.

Why not just test the prodigy XC? Were you just testing the belt drive out instead? Not sure if the XC fork is any better since you kept saying how bad the suntour fork is either?

Maybe it's just the pov from that stem and bar set-up but the trails looked delightfully sketchy.

Ok Im sold on this Bike, I thought for sure you would break something on the off road trails but it stayed in one piece. Great Review 😁

Is gnarly still a cool term? If so that was quite the gnarly review.. Like you said, I probably would not take it on such a gnarly trail but it is nice to know that it can handle it..

GREAT review! Can't wait for mods and comments about the longevity of the Enviola hub. Also while i get your comments on the hub, "shifting" i think should make more of a difference than you describe. Is it the interplay between hub and motor?

Thanks for this, I’m currently looking into buying one. Question: How tall are you? Frame/Reach not too small/short? Still waiting for your V2 upgrade video ;)

If you ever got your hands on the new Aventon Ramblas I'd loved to hear your thoughts on this vs that for a beginner mountain biker who also wants something that can handle a commute

I can't help but wonder if you fixed geared the rear cog & had a freewheeling chainring could you add Regen Breaking to a middrive E-bike? IE the pedals being stationary with the middrive motor/generator spinning. My hubmotor E-cargo has regen & it's a massive range extender if you like to pedal in lower power setting plus leave enough slack in break cables to easily engage regen before the pads hit the rotor.

can you describe how you were able to take off the rear fender and wires? i want to take mine off for the summer. Thanks!

I’m looking at this or the trek powerfly 4 gen 4. What do you recommend, I’m looking for a bike that can rip around town but if I wanted to take it to some flowly tracks I could also do that. I don’t really mountain bike, so having no chain and gears to upkeep on the prodigy is a big plus

Why does a e-bike like this doesn’t have throttle only mode (no pedal required)? Sorry e-bike noob here 🙋‍♂️

Internal or external routing on dropper post when upgrading? Any issue with Brose display and lever placement being in the same location?
@RideShagbark
@RideShagbark Год назад
Sadly "Class 3" makes is unable to respectfully ride in locations that are Class 1 only. More MTB trail locations are starting to only allow Class 1(or no eMTB at all) to head off the flood of eMoto like eBikes. Justifiable or not, that's not really up for debate, fact is those are the new rules. To respect current land management's rules, I need to pass on an otherwise great value hardtail like the Prodigy v2. Maybe we'll get lucky and Ride1Up will make a true Class 1 eMTB with a better fork, wider bars, and maybe a dropper?

57 pounds?! good lord. I've looked at these on their website before but it has never really landed that they are that heavy.

LOL that is def on the light side for ebikes. You shud get a regular bike if you need something lighter.
@srobeck77
@srobeck77 6 месяцев назад
@@reallifescience2069 That adds up to about a 1/2 pound. You have issues if u think thats "alot lighter". wow...
@ritchiedanna789
@ritchiedanna789 Год назад
Don't support these direct to consumer brands. Go to a local shop (better yet a local ebike shop if you're really lucky) and buy from them. Also the brose motor is notorious for the internal belt failing within a few years max.

WHY is black & other dark colors so prevalent in bike options? I would never choose a dark colored bike. Yet very few companies offer bright colors. Visibility is a significant factor in bike safety. Same for gear. It is difficult to find bike bags which are NOT black. This photo show no details because of the DULL black color. It would grab the eye in green,yellow,orange etc.. Why would a person model such a DULL photo?? It looks horrible. It is a safety hazard.
@srobeck77
@srobeck77 6 месяцев назад
Incorrect, a dark frame def makes zero difference in daylight or nightime visibility. Your clothing is a way bigger factor than a 1" tube color. If your that paranoid, wear a traffic vest with Christmas lights blinking on it 24/7
@dixienormis3614

Tiny battery, no throttle. Cheap crappy fork. Wow, I’ve never seen a more useless ebike.

No throttle is better anyway, most of u fools will abuse it and burn out the motor
