You’d be surprised man. The Xbox 360 (or pretty much that console generation) was way ahead of it’s time. I was amazed of how this game (RR6) looked back when it was first released!
@@Magnulast I have 6 and 7, they are virtually identical except the 360 has better colours and lighting. PS3 benefits from rendering at 1080p though. Also the field of view is slightly better in 7, the car is slightly smaller which helps playability.
@@FullNietzsche There is more detailed backgrounds in ridge racer 7. And the colors are far better and vibrant.(very close to the PSVITA ridge racer) I don't like 6's mute color looks. And as a result it looks depressing in comparison to 7.
@@Magnulast I love both 6 and 7 (and other Ridge Racer games too), but I'd give the edge to the PS3 version (RR7) because of the resolution bump, the extra tracks, more music added (some via DLC), Xevious intro game (a nice change from Pac-Man), and the best reason, IMO, is that it got full on stereoscopic 3D support, and looks amazing when played on a nice 3D display (if you can still find one! hehe).
Same here. I wish Namco/Bandai would get their act together and resurrect the proper Ridge Racer again. It went out on a sour note with the bare bones Vita game. I loved the PSP version however (Ridge Racer 2).
Love sim racing and pseudo-sim racing (? whatever gran turismo and forza fall under) but there's something classic about great arcade racers. Never gets old.
The Xbox just got something 2 generations of the PlayStation has been lacking. A playable Ridge Racer game natively on the hardware. The PlayStation I loved as a kid is dead.
There is fantastic RR 7 on PS3. However, this chapter of the great racing saga is also very good (maybe slightly worse than RR7) and I am more than happy that I can play it now on my Xbox One.
Exactly my feeling. I was a PS guy from PS1 to Vita, the PS4 never got proper back-compat so it never clicked for me. PS5 doesn't seem to be improving in that area, so mine collects dust while my PS3 and XSX get all the love. PlayStation is a zombie brand.
@@FFFan3445 The PS4 literally wasn't powerful enough to be backwards compatible with PS3 games. Now the PS5 is backwards compatible with all but 6 PS4 games (for legal reasons, although I think those were all shovelware.) And even if you don't like playstation, you can't pretend it's a zombie brand when the PS5 had Sony's most successful console launch ever. Obviously that's just because of scalpers, but for some reason it was more newsworthy than Xbox scalpers (I know Xbox demand is a lot lower than playstation, but I don't know if that affects scalper demand.)
@@hitpeppens2932 This is merely going off with Sony said. Sony said that it's the most successful launch. Sure they all went to scalpers, but a sale's a sale, whether it goes to a scalper or not.
@@MrGamelover23 PS4 is slightly more powerful than an Xbox One, so why wouldn't it be powerful enough to run PS3 emulation if Sony had wanted it to. Power isn't the problem, it's the lack of will from Sony to do it.
This is probably my favourute arcade racer ever. The no collisions ach was so much fun i had to get 1000gs on this game twice after srarting a new gamertag. The good old days of the best console ever ❤
A great game but it's a real shame it's still stuck at 720p with no anti-aliasing. A 3x or 4x increase in the resolution would really have helped here and I'm sure the Xbox Series console have more than enough GPU and CPU overhead to handle it.
A lot of people didn't notice at the time of the game's release because there weren't a lot of 1080p screens at the time, but Ridge Racer doesn't actually run at 720p when outputting to modern tvs and monitors. It natively runs higher at 1440x810. Your point still stands of course, but just something to note. It also depends on whether the method they use would work on the game without breaking it. If a back compat game isn't enhanced in some way, it's usually because the methods they use to enhance somehow broke the game.
Thank goodness i still have this on disc. Ridge Racer 7 is the better game though and its incredible in 3D Top class treatment from Microsoft/ Bandai Namco on giving this game the BC treatment.
I would love to play it again, IF MY BARADUKE FIERA DLC WOULD WORK CORRECTLY WITH MY SAVE, without that particular dlc (that i have in my download library but the game doesnt recognize it, only on my xbox 360), i cant continue my save game, which is a bummer
Is this running in a higher native resolution than 720p? It just looks like there are still some jaggies on the cars and track elements. It still looks very nice, and with a buttery framerate. I'm glad it's playable on the Series X.
After massive excitement and crushing disappointment of the ridge racer 8 switch rumour this has come at a great time.. feeling all nostalgic watching the Xbox 20 year show and seeing ridge racer 6 make the BC list.. First thing I did was purchase this game from CEX for £6!!!! And an hour later it was up to £12.. I can’t wait to go through this game again Riiiiidge raaaaacer
I know people have… strong opinions on Unbounded, but I wish it could be added to the backwards compatibility list. It’s like the Split/Second sequel that we never got.
@@aacob2 oh ok great. unlucky for you about the dlc though 😔 i think they start downloading as you install from the disc if you own. lucky me i just downloaded all of them while i was a kid lmao
@@yesmate78 What? Backwards compatible 360 games still have achievements on the Xbox Series. It emulates the whole 360 console system, not just the game.
@@13Carrey1 play it as normal, i have to make sure my region is set to US but thats it. after i have finished playing it, i change back to the UK region
