The ridge racer series never really got the credit that it rightfully deserves its a really fun arcade racer its a shame that the series is been around for so long and still people havent heard about it
Yeah and because of that Namco stopped caring about it years ago. Which is sad because a proper sequel to RR7 would be super nice to see. (8 was in development sadly cancelled for unknown reasons but it would've been a switch game so it would've been, suffice to say, awful compared to 7)
RR7 uses a lot of simple graphical features and doesn’t really use any cutting edge features, most notably there’s no dynamic lighting or shadows, it’s all baked in and pre-rendered, and the environments are relatively low poly and lightly textured. It looks amazing for what it is, and it allows the game to run in beautiful 1080p60, but compared to a lot of releases at the time it seems “primitive.”
RR7 is such a solid and overlooked game, I had so much fun playing it. Must admit though, it gets crazy hard towards the end. A real achievement to finish all the one on one boss races.
I picked this gem up today for $6. Haven't played a RR game since the PSP. The game looks and plays great even if it's several years old it still holds up. I was able to hop online quickly and race someone from Japan.
They need to make RR for PS4, and bring in all the content from all the RR games for a big selection of cars and tracks, that would be one hell of an experience!
Just like they kinda did on PSP with "Ridge Racer" That one game alone are much better than Ridge Racer 7 which to me felt rushed and special class car don't feel special thanks to car customization options. It's not the bad RR game or anything it just felt too similar to RR6 on 360. And that game have better music and presentation.
I remember getting my PS3 and this game for Christmas in 2006 and playing the crap out of it for months. Hard to believe that it’s been almost 15 years.
Came Across a used copy of "RR7"@Gamestop for 7 bucks, and snatched it up, despite all of the really Negative reviews I have read and seen over the years since it's release~I have read about how poor the graphics are, well IMHO,Bullshit! the game looks Beautiful, especially when you consider this was a "PS3" Launch title and is what..6 years old!?I honestly do not understand all the hate this title has caught,if you like strictly "ARCADE" racers,do not listen to the haters,"RR7" is a lot of FUN!
this looks so much better than the new unbounded, but my question is are there still ppl playing this online at all? if not it wouldn't be worth anymore to get this game just for the single player
Who said that it was a bad game? It's fantastic. People just want far too much "innovation" and "realism". Fucking horseshit is what it is. Great title.
The tracks and locations look amazing! But the handling physics look so silly and unrealistic (I get thats the intenion) but it looks like the game is jus constantly pushin u forward instead of you controlling the action. But thats my opinion only from this video, I've never played it
The things you control in Ridge Racer are your drifts, your nitrous levels (you drift to fill nitrous), and your slipstream position. Compared to simulation racers, you are more encouraged to maintain your car's top speed at all time and abuse everything to achieve that. It's really fun!
There also seems to be a lot of controversy about using the "DFGT" with "RR7",It seems many people who have tried the "DFGT" with "RR7" give up after a few races and jump on various forums saying that the "DFGT" does not work worth a crap w/ "RR7"~well let me assure you that the "DFGT" Works excellent with it! you just have to get a feel for it,and though it may take awhile,[took me about an hour] once you get the drifting fundamentals down "RR7" is just a blast! just takes some patience;)
Wish these modern games just let you get into the game, instead of having to wade through really unwieldy menus and car customization shit I'll never use.. The exterior car view should be taken out as well, it looks stupid. In fact, just give me arcade RR1.
Ridge State Grand Prix > World Xplorer Let’s face it, Ridge Racer 7 was the better option here. World Xplorer was a bit too repetitive, both in terms of gameplay and the soundtrack. RSGP has more to it than just the same old branching routes. Not to mention how in RR7 the graphics and colors stand out more, they switch it up more with the soundtrack, there’s more customization options, and the DJs were far less annoying than the default DJ in RR6.
