You can take a needle file and make "teeth" on the guard which will help it catch better

Thanks for the one year review. So much more valuable than an "unboxing". Like many others, I hesitated to buy the RIDGID Octane when it was introduced with the plastic blade guard, but there are plastics and their are plastics (some cheap and brittle and some reinforced polymers that function like steel). This blade guard is tough! Have never heard of anyone damaging or cracking the blade guard. I have noticed the guard sticking on rare occasions, but I've experienced that with every circular saw I've ever owned.

Thanks - the plastic guard is one of my concerns, especially in the winter, since plastic is much more brittle at -15C.

Yep just bought one that arrived yesterday to replace an old corded saw I've had for 20 years. Not going to miss the cord/plug getting stuck toward the end of a cut on plywood and the like! If I had a dollar for every ruined cut caused by a cord getting snagged...

I had the same concern with the numbers being hard to see, but a little white paint rubbed into them and then cleaned up the surface has made them much more visible.

Thanks for posting this review! I’m hoping to get into carpentry eventually, and need a circular saw with a good break, due to only having one good hand. I think this saw us what I will need and have been trying to save the funds to buy one.

@Tool Zone Review Hey Clint, just got this for $60 (tool only). Would a 4ah max output battery give me decent performance? I see you're using a 6ah. I know this is a big motor using lots of juice to run. I bought this for small jobs, not all day demanding work. I have a corded for that. I have a pair of 4ah max batteries and don't want to spend $150 on a battery just to make this run. Then it's not a bargain.

Is the makita you have or diablo that much of a upgrade or would you just wait till the stock one is toast? Just got this from home depot, Rigid R8654B for $100 tool only, not bad for a cordless circular saw. First thought was it seems pretty heavy, but it seems to cut ok. I mean I can tell I paid $100 for it, its no power beast, but also not running the octane battery. Just 18V, I'm sure that's part of it.

I am a one man band renovator. I love Ridgid stuff, it is my chosen battery platform & has been great on jobs. My saw all works fine but it has a couple of things which drive me nuts & they are problems always only found on Ridgid... 1> Like so many saws, this feels life a left handed saw... The blade is on the wrong side where I cannot easily see the cut happening. It also makes it near impossible to manipulate the guard hold back lever safely. To do this you have to let go of the front handle. More often than not I end up wedging it open which is very dangerous. In sort blade on the right SUCKS. 2> The blade guard. It sticks, diverts your line & is generally a pain in the arse....see above. 3> The anti kick back timeout. This saw rarely kicks back, but when the blade stalls or kicks, the control waits a number of seconds before you can re start...Most of the time by now I an cursing so I end up yanking the battery to fast reset it. 4> Dust suction port. Useless...I never use it because it is pointless. In short, this is the Only one of my Ridgid tools I do not like. I will be replacing it soon with something with the f***g blade on the left where I can see it & work the guard lever safely!

You find a noticable difference? I find my gen5x brushless stick vac a little underpowered, you think spending the money on an octane battery is worth it just for that (it's like 100usd for the 3.0, and 150 for the 9.0 where I'm located)? The rest of my Ridgid stuff gets me through anything on a regular 4.0 battery no problem, plenty of power in my saws, impacts, drills etc.

I have the gen5x, I heard they are the same as the new octane, if I just upgrade to the octane battery I would get the same performance. Is this true?
@ToolReviewZone

I know that the gen5 impact wrench is the same and works well with the OCTANE batteries, so it's a good possibility that the saw would as well

If youre planning on releasing a video every day youll burn yourself out and with that the quality of the reviews. Quality over quantity. Also, Ridgid saw with a Makita blade. Its like eating Ramen in Japan with a fork.

@@ToolReviewZone If you feel it yourself then stop pushing yourself. In the long run it will hurt you and your channel. Take a day or two off. Think with cool head what new to add. Watch other tool reviewers and maybe youll catch some ideas or way to improve your channel. With that youll hit 100k, but while pushing every day a new video youll burn yourself out, let alone people will start to get bored of your videos. I wont type "cool review bro" everytime or post 3-4 comments, but share my honest opinion.

Use a 2ah battery and it stalls. Its tripping an internal breaker because amps are too low. If you use a 4ah battery it gets more amps and is much better. Not sure if max output is better or not, thats why I watched the video.
