Good video hoss , Ridgid has certainly ramped up their game in the last year or so. These saws have came a long long way in the last 3 or 4 years , I was building a very large deck today which required me to bring 4 of my 18v Milwaukee circular saws....2 m18 7 1/4" fuels , 1 m18 6 1/2" fuel and 1 very old and very tired m18 6 1/2" brushed circular saw. When I was stuck using my old 6 1/2" brushed saw I realized just how far we've come with the new saws and batteries. Folks can saw what they want about Ridgid , one of my employees brought a Ridgid Gen5 to work today and although it was a little behind the Milwaukees in power it didn't hinder him in any way when it came to getting the job done. Watch out Dewalt.....TTI seems to have 2 thoroughbreds in the corral.....

I absolutely love this saw. I was heading to Depot to buy the first brushless model and noticed the octane had just cane out. I have been completely satisfied with this saw. I do agree about the hanger and find it to be a little louder than some of the weaker saws I've had, but it's more powerful so I can deal with the little louder noise! It is a beast!

With the Home Depot price right now for the package of the saw + a 6 Ah battery and a 3 Ah battery, I see it as a no-lose proposition -- as long as the saw is worthwhile. You have presented a great review of what I've now decided is the saw for me. Yes, it would be nice if this saw had a better foot and blade guard, and if it was blade left, but these are things that I can work with.
@robb9702
@robb9702 4 года назад
Yeah, my biggest change on this saw would be a metal guard, but overall it's a badass saw! I've started using DeWalt corded tools since I started in the trade 20 years back or so, and my dad owns a few DeWalt tools but we always stuck with Ridgid cordless tools throughout the years. He also has Makita and Bosch corded and battery power tools which are great and were some of the better ones before these newer brushless tools came available. I had an older DeWalt cordless circular saw and drill years back and they were decently powerful but they weren't as strong as Ridgid cordless. A little less than 2 yrs ago I bought the Ridgid brushless recip, hammerdrill and impact driver. Have not been disappointed in the least! I'm not switching over to Octane either, but for the circular saw it seems to be a no-brainer for the extra power.

Before I bought, I hesitated due to the plastic blade guard. There are plastics and then, there are plastics...some reinforced polymers can be as hard as cast metals. It seems to be performing very well and I have not yet heard of anybody who has slammed the saw down and cracked or broken the blade guard.

It did tend to hang up near the end of the cut on the 2x4, some saw's have a smooth transition between the guard and the material. He seemed to have to wiggle it to get it to transition to the top of the piece.

Odd you say that left handed people may find it difficult since its blade right but my lefty co workers found it easier vs my right handed co workers. It took me some time to learn how to cut with this saw since i use the skil-saw worm drive which is blade left but you learn quick. Looking to pair my Gen 5x non octane with a 9ah as the 6ah just misses the mark. Overall decent saw for rough cuts and short cuts

@fallofthe
@fallofthe 5 лет назад
That was exactly my experience with this saw. I thought it might be able to perform an operation where I had been using a corded saw but after trying two separate saws I decided that to go back to corded. I found the handle to be in the wrong place which made it awkward to use and shutting off for no reason make it just unacceptable. I ended up with the Ridgid 7 1/4 corded saw that has perfect balance and performs like a dream, by comparison, the Octane was a disappointing toy...

Question, i heard that the octane models werent quite ready when they released the brushless models. Now i heard that the impact wrench brushless (450 ft-lbs) is the the same as the octane impact wrench. If you use an octane battery on the non-octane you will achieve the 650 ft-lbs on the octane. If this is true, are all the brushless models able to achieve the same capacities as the octane models? Can we get a test between octane and non-octane models, use of standard and octane batteries, especially the impact wrenches. Thank you again and love your contents. Keep producing.
@ToolReviewZone
@ToolReviewZone 5 лет назад
Hey wes. Their could be some truth to that in regards to the impact. I also felt that it was underpowered and mentioned that in the review I did for it. Not sure why, but out of all the other OCTANE tools, that one struggles a bit
@mikez4132
@mikez4132 5 лет назад
@@ToolReviewZone I believe the order was that the Octane batteries were out before all the tools were off production. I read that late release Gen5x Brushless 1/2" impacts are actually the same as the new octane impacts. You have to look at the battery terminals to know for sure. Octanes have more contact points. That being said if your Gen5X is more than 6mo old chances are not good it got the octane upgrades.
