Why do you think airbag vests are becoming so popular? What has changed?
@keithkeller6509

Sorry to say but You and Itchy Boots have been demonstrating to 10s of thousands of viewers and riders why they are a good idea. Plus Revzilla has been promoting them heavily.

Rider education has improved resulting in riders understanding the importance of airbag vests. For instance FortNine is basically the global radio broadcast for motorcyclists and they have regularly been promoting airbag vests and showing riders facing literally no injuries after a crash and the simple fact that a $700 airbag vest will save you from a $20,000 hospital bill is enough to destroy any argument against them. I'm dumbfounded that insurance companies don't give massive discounts to riders that purchase airbag vests considering the massive payouts they could be saved from by the use of them. They wouldn't cover somebody driving a car with no airbags so why not give people discounts for CHOOSING to ride with an airbag vests?

@@RemboUSMC For one, the tech has been ported from professional racing to regular joe-schmo rider. Also, I can take out the back and chest protections out of my jackets, which makes them more comfortable, and less rigid to wear. Marketing & rider education certainly plays a role, too. What I’d like to see are two adjustments: 1) a federal helmet law 2) insurance rebates (through mail-in receipts) or insurance rate reductions for riders who wear airbag systems

I've been sporting a Helite Turtle 2 for five years and highly recommend them. I've had two friends crash while wearing them and both credit the vest towards reducing/preventing more serious injuries. My friend's son had one of the sensor vests...had the vest activate while trying to work his way down the icy driveway at their house when he half dropped the bike...three months to get it reset; now, more of the sensor vests are being made to allow user-reset, but that was what he had happen 17 months ago. 12 months ago he laid the bike down after being brake checked by a road rage driver and the vest failed to activate...he's now paralyzed from the chest down. Ryan of FortNine also had a good video this past year on studies of whether armor prevents broken bones...studies seem to indicate the answer to that is no. Vests should help with prevention of broken bones. The armor seems to reduce abrasion injuries.

Hi Rembo Good to see you back on bike and recovering have followed you for couple of years I took delivery of my V4s in march 22 just before my 75 th birthday couple of years down the line 13500 mls on clock no regrets. I had been looking at air bags for sometime and last week purchased a Tech 7 x after a couple of rides one yesterday which was 10 hrs in the saddle it is as I thought and I can’t easily live with it in the real world plenty of back protection and the tail is no problem unlike the full Knox protector that I wore previously. 20 hrs running time I will wait and see on that but mine recharged fully in what was its 2nd charge from being completely flat in 2.5 hours. I’m well pleased safe riding Ged

Hey Ged, great to hear from you and thanks for sticking with me! Sounds like you’re putting that V4s to good use-13,500 miles is impressive. Glad you’re liking the Tech Air 7x so far. The back protection is top-notch, and it’s good to know it’s working well for those long rides. The recharge time sounds solid too. Stay safe out there, and keep racking up those miles. Appreciate the support-ride on!

First, OORAH!, and thank you for your sacrifice in service to our nation. 🤘 Your video expounding on Fortnine's RPM discussion came across my feed, I watched, and immediately subscribed. An honest, objective video, which I appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to bring more valid points to that issue. Regarding airbags, I've been wearing the Helite for four years (tethered Turtle, then the e-Turtle, once it came to The States). I applaud you for spreading the word and, hopefully, inspiring others to wear them. IMO, they're a no-brainer; and I'll never understand riders who think nothing of dropping $1K on a helmet, but balk at the notion of wearing an airbag. When it comes to gear, I'm ATGATT, and best of the best - why wouldn't one want to have the ultimate in protection. But, to each their own, I suppose...God bless, 'Murica.

OORAH, Peter! Appreciate the kind words and your support. Glad the video resonated with you. Fortnine’s RPM discussion brought up some solid points, and I wanted to add my take on it. Totally with you on the airbags. I’ve been all-in on airbag protection since my accident. It’s like you said-why not have the best protection you can get? Helmets are great, but an airbag could be the difference in a bad situation. ATGATT all the way. Thanks for spreading the word too, and keep riding safe out there. God bless and ride on!

Hey rembo- glad to see you are mending and back on the bike. I’ll admit your crash moved me to purchase a Dainese Smart Sport Airbag jacket. After a lot of research the vests wouldn’t do it for me. Living in central TX it is just too hot to add another layer (especially an airbag that severely restricts airflow) to an existing jacket. I went with this jacket as it is a standalone airbag mesh jacket that allows the most airflow and has abrasion protection. So far it’s great, a bit heavier than a mesh jacket and provides about 80% of airflow compared to my existing mesh jacket. Not saying this jacket is what you should get, just putting it out there. I see your needs are different as you want to do trackdays too. Hope the tech air 7x meets your expectations.

Yo @user-zh5bo3xl8g, appreciate the good vibes. Glad to hear you found a setup that works for you in that Texas heat. The Dainese Smart Sport Airbag jacket sounds like a solid choice, especially with the airflow and protection balance. It’s all about finding what keeps you safe and comfortable. You’re right-my needs are a bit different with track days in the mix, but I’m hoping the Tech Air 7x delivers. Thanks for sharing your experience, and ride safe out there!

I've been wearing my Klim Rally vest for a year. Among other reasons I picked that one was because of the options out there, it is the most breathable and comfortable to wear (I have ridden in high 90s, and it was ok), better support for my neck, and I can replace the CO2 canisters myself.

I've been riding both dual sport and sport touring with a TechAir 5 for a year now. I like it but no deployments so far. It fits well inside my textile jackets. I bought it after I broke 3 ribs while riding in sand with my Alpinestars Bionic protector. I was in deep sand at around 15 mph and slammed down hard to the left side where my arm stayed on my side and pressed the elbow pad firmly into my rib cage. Of course now I recommend off road riders to get side rib protection and even in the heat I wear the Bionic but with a carbon Karting vest over that so a wrap is around my rib cage sides. Sounds overboard? not if you are laid up for two weeks in a recliner waiting for the pain to subside so you can get around normal. Being off work and mtb-ing/ moto riding for a few months, you loose a lot of your muscle and strength during that time. I have had no false deploys over double track trails yet. I do not ride with a neck brace but tried a few and they don't fit well enough with the flex and coverage areas expected. I do use a simple foam donut style neck filler pad that I zip tie to my roost protector or Bionic if going technical without the airvest. Ride safe folks. Thanks Rembo, for this important topic.
@RemboUSMC
@RemboUSMC 22 дня назад
@dirtrider9268, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like you’ve found a solid setup that works for you. That rib injury sounds brutal, so it makes sense to go all out on protection. It’s always better to be over-prepared than sidelined by an injury. The TechAir 5 is a great choice, and it’s good to hear you haven’t had any false deployments. As for the neck brace, I get it-fit can be tricky. Your solution with the foam neck filler sounds smart, especially for technical riding. Stay safe out there, and keep doing what works for you. Appreciate the support!

Recenly, I was able to buy a Tech-air off-road which makes sense for me as a 90% dirt rider. It can also be used in street mode. Of course a tech-air 7x makes more sense for riders who never go off-road. There's been a huge marketing push which has exhausted stocks. A* can't make them fast enough to keep up with demand. Although marketing has caused this, so many riders say these airvests are lifesavers, that the uptake of airvests has been dramatic.

I wear the TechAir Off-Road and I like that I can ride without a jacket. I can set it for road or off-road and I got to test it the other day, coming down hill on a single lane dirt road, slowed to 20mph for a sharp left turn and a 4wheel drive pickup came fast around the corner. I hugged the shoulder but it was soft, deep and falling off the side. Managed to dump the bike, I was standing and hit the dirt pretty good. The vest went off and it felt like pillows. I had a motocross style padded shirt on and I didn’t even get a scratch, the bike is ok, handlebars were turned and a few scratches on the crash bars, but nothing really. Glad I had the vest on, as I’ve cracked ribs a couple times over the years. I find the vest comfortable even in temperatures around 90 degrees. One thing is , the vest does stick up a bit (a hump) in the upper back and your jackets have to be large enough to accommodate the vest. Also, the truck never even stopped, oh well, all is good.

Glad you are back. If I had known you were at Laguna I would have ridden down to meet you. I only live 1.5 hours from the track. Raced there many times. I chose the Helite eTurtle and Turtle 2. I've not tested or deployed the 7, but I have so on the 3 and 5. Soon I will write my overall review of all the ones I have tested. Helite eTurtle, Turtle 2, HMOOV, Mo'Cycle pants, DAir, KLIM, HELD, and Rev'It. Plan to include how long the respective canisters last for shelf life and what they should weigh. I've found the Helites are the coolest, by using a dermal thermometer on my back to test all of the vests. Recently rode in 98-degree heat wearing the Helite eTurtle and my KNOX fully mesh jacket. Any airbag vest you wear is better than what you wore when you did your low-speed single-vehicle crash. You and three other riders I know had those types of crashes this year. All broke bones and most got punctured lungs. All of you now wear air vests. Much like closing the gate after the horse got out, but still good. Ride safe.

The Ai-1 is the least obtrusive and the easiest to put on/take off on stops, and I still find it extremely heavy, hot, and uncomfortable in hot weather. I think you will quickly find that something that hugs your shoulders and completely blocks air to your chest is unbearable when it's over 90 degrees. No problem for racing, but casual, all day riding? Let us know.

Rembo, after you and Itchy Boots both got busted up in crashes this year, I have been seriously considering an air bag vest. No doubt, both of you would have been well protected had you been wearing one. Both my sons have Tech Air 5 vests as does my daughter in-law. But two downsides of the Tech Air 5 have been holding me back from purchasing one. 1. The lack of breath ability in warm/hot weather. 2. The inability to launder the shell. It sounds like the Tech Air 7x has addressed the cleaning/laundering issue. Let us know how you get along with the heat/breathability issue. If you can survive in one in FL, I can probably do the same in WI. I know the vest is the safe way to go. I just hate being uncomfortably hot when riding and also know that heat leads to fatigue, which leads to mistakes, which leads to crashes. Don’t want to go down that rabbit hole.
