Riding the world's fastest UCI legal road bike

I ride a lot of cheap bikes, so I decided to rent the fastest UCI legal road bike in the world. Riding it over 2 days in nearly 40°C, it turned out to be an interesting choice…

I build and ride lots of cheap bikes, mainly built with parts I source from AliExpress. They are usually endurance style bikes, so tend to have some comfort and compliance built into the frame. So while on a recent trip to Majorca in Spain, I decided to put some cash down, and rent a really nice race bike.
I ended up renting the SystemSix, which Cannondale claim is 'The fastest road bike in the world. Period.' It's an extremely stiff aero focused race bike, with 65mm deep carbon wheels, and Dura-Ace groupset.
Over 2 days, and just over 100 miles, I came to realise that this bike was incredibly fast on the flats, but it was also incredibly uncomfortable. On anything over than completely smooth tarmac, the bike was SO harsh. Any small imperfections were transferred through the frame and seat post, directly into my bum.
Climbs on the bike also left a lot to be desired, the aero frame and wheels really caught the wind, and the front end was very twitchy on the descents.
Regardless I am SO pleased that I chose the Cannondale SystemSix over the other endurance style frames that were in the rental shops, and that Dura-Ace groupset opened my eyes to just how good mechanical shifting can be!

Use of the baby food is a great option since it's about half the price if an equivalent weight/calorie gel & they actually have good flavour options. I like to take two different flavours on a 100km ride. Practical tip is to find a similarly threaded cap to the no-swallow wide baby proof cap supplied, for each packet you take in your jersey pocket (and don't throw that cap away).

But on our rougher roads it was a nightmare: really harsh and difficult to handle on twisty descents because it skipped around so much. For frame routing, I picked up a very good kit from China with a roll of foam tubing for not much money at all, so it's not hard or expensive, you just have to take your time. Thanks for the entertainment, hope you and the family had a nice time.

Hey Luke great video as always! So I think running cable housing through the bike is frame dependent. I have a 2021 Yoeleo I built up and it does not have cable stops. It was designed to have the housing run through it. Caught me way off guard because until then I had only seen that on mountain bikes as the norm. You mentioned that it seems more difficult to set up a bike this way which yes you need dampener material etc but once set up, replacing a cable has never been easier! Happy riding! 🥖🥖🥖🥖

The issue is the geometry of the front end. Slack head angle and long rake fork make it hard to handle a deep section front wheel. I've ridden a couple bikes with the 75⁰ and 28mm rake fork and you barely even feel the crosswinds. And on my current road bike with 72.5⁰ and the custom 28mm rake it's still pretty good. Nimble handling but stable.

Oh the funniest thing I've seen all year!!😂 Great recycling of baby gear, food and bib😅 really smooth and pleasing editing, I think I have my next holiday planned! I agree with the tradeoff but I think the penalties and compromises are worth it for a taste of what the pros live and breathe. The sensations of speed alone is so addictive I feel the price is reasonable. Also, an endurance is still a compromise imo as it's jack of all, master of none. Becoming a stronger far outweighs the performance of the gear, my 10 pence!

Great video and more are welcome. The difference you felt in the rental may also be caused in part by not being used to the bike. I normally ride an older Cannondale SuperSix Evo with rim brakes and rented a top spec Wilier with disc brakes. Was really happy going down Alphe D'Huez, but the climb back up was horrible, which should not have been the case judging by the bike alone. Anyway : great content and yes love to see more.

Ah, I love always watching your positive and entertaining videos! This one was no exception. I love goats, so I had to laugh out loud when seeing one in front of the ice cream shop. 😂So typical. About the Dura Ace 11 speed - did you watch Peak Torques latest video? He also ride the groupset for a reason. I'm actually also still neglecting electronic since my 11 speed Ultegra leaves nothing to desire. Plus I like the unplugged approach.

I run also all the outer cable all through the frame. It makes it easier to replace the inner cables.
