Rifle reloads and BAD levers.

We were having a discussion about rifle reloads and why I personally don’t use a bad lever. AGAIN, nothing wrong with them at all cause they actually do a lot of good work in helping you with manipulations and reloads. Like I state in the video i just don’t like to use anything that changes the manual of arms on the firearms is all.

The main advantage of a BAD lever in my opinion is that it does speed up malfunction clearing by being able to lock the bolt with one hand and it’s cheaper than a full ambi lower.

@@andresc5915 I have an ADM4 lower also. The ambi controls are well thought out compared to LMTs after thought approach. I hate that KAC is changing their ambi to a style similar to LMT. I would rather them leave it alone or put more thought into it like ADM did. My KAC is still my go to rifle.

BAD levers also allow you to lock bolt carrier group back (e.g., to clear a double feed or other jam) without repositioning your right hand. Use left hand to pull back on T-handle and use trigger finger to pus UP on BAD lever to lock things to the rear. Use trigger finger to release mag, and left hand to remove mag, clear action, and reinsert mag. Then drop bolt with left thumb OR BAD lever and GO.

The BAD lever screws into your bolt catch so if your bolt catch breaks both of it breaks off. There’s no additional redundancy. In fact, it just adds a lever that makes it easier to break off your bolt catch which would be bad. It’s like adding a foregrip to your rail and saying it’s redundancy in case your rail breaks. That’s now how it works because if your rail falls off, your foregrip goes with it.

@MatthewC176
@MatthewC176 Год назад
Bad levers are faster than ambi 100% of the time, they can get in the way a bit but are safe with a safe operator and are most useful for malfunctions. The best solution for an ambi lower with speed in mind is the radian ADAC giving a big within reach button for speed reloads and making the mag release also lock the bolt back for simpler faster double feed clearing, overall the bad lever gives any mil spec lower ambi ability and more importantly faster performance and better efficiency for right handed shooters with the best speed over other systems except the adac when it comes to double feeds. However redi-mag makes a kit to turn any mil spec lowers mag release into a bolt lock so that functionality can be added on top of a bad lever giving you the best of both worlds whether you want deliberate specific controls or want the fastest malfunction clearing possible
@lincolnpascual
@lincolnpascual Год назад
Interesting.... I never thought to try it that way. I do it similar on the belt, but it was never purposeful... my hand just naturally goes like that in that position and if it ain't broke, I don't fix it. I'm of the habit of slapping the bottom of the mag when I seat it. I also rock the mag in sorta in a AK style, so that the front edge of the mag contacts with the magwell first. I haven't missed a reload in nearly 15 years of doing it (mostly true... there was once in 2016, but I got shot in the middle of the reload... gotta give me a pass on that one, right?). But I'm gonna give this a shot. just another tool in the toolbox, and you never know when you might need it. Thanks Mojo.

Two examples where I use it are my long-range setup where I want to be able to make as few movements as possible while staying prone and on target; and my hunting rifle where I know I'll be locking my bolt back often to comply with my states hunting laws. Now neither of those use cases may be what it's designed for, but idiots saying not to buy a product because it's not perfect for one thing discourages people from experimenting and possibly finding something else that the product is good for.

There are a lot of things that "change the manual of arms". Collapsing stocks... Magpul locking/collapsing stocks, short throw safety levers, lighter triggers, flat tops, etc. I get what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree. If you're shooting National Match style where your left arm is wearing a shooting glove and a sling BAD levers are fan-fing-tasting. A lot of precision shooting disciplines benefit from the BAD lever, but this is mostly because you're limiting the amount of movement you can make intentionally to build a stronger shooting position. The BAD lever restores some of that mobility in the proper measured amount.

Pretending to be John Wick will get you killed. Your timing better be pussy perfect or your sending home a lonesome bolt. Bad levers are just that...bad. I use an Aero Precision ambidextrous lower. No guess work, send the mag home in the well then right index finger the bolt release. Simple, perfect, every time.

That's a really good point about the whole agency policy thing. As a non leo, I'm really only training with one rifle. Well, i only have just one rifle to get good with, and it's got all the ambi, cuz no agency to tell me no 😛

I run with a Phase 5 EBRv3 lever which is better than Magpul's BAD lever in my opinion.

I fully agree that going beer can with a thumb high up is the best way to train if you’re running the bolt catch normally. Although, I gotta say that having a bad lever is the quickest way since the trigger finger just sweeps it down to release and the reloading hand just goes back to the handguard. I quite hate when people just regurgitate what they hear, more so when they say it’s an Nd hazard when it’s user error. G36s have their bolt release actually inside the trigger guard, yet no one complains. This lever isn’t designed to be a push button but should be swiped down. Is it dummy proof? Nope, especially if someone would run things faster than they safely are comfortable with. But is it a bad thing? Also no. Though some levers can have their screws stripped so there are other sturdier options running the same principle. As always, good vid mojo and training is always paramount. While having the same manual of arms is the best foundation, it’s a cheap part and a nice to have. Cuts down time in competition too lol

I don't like them at all, bought one thinking it would be awesome and HATED it, you want Ambi Controls, buy a lower with Ambi Controls!

I use a BAD lever for locking the bolt back….helps when clearing malfunctions. Still run the standard bolt release to send it home tho.

PDQ lever. Yes it requires a cut to the receiver. Get it done and install the PDQ. It's worth every penny. None of the ND issues you get with the BAD lever, all the ergo improvement.
