Was going though sniper 101 for a second time and then this pops up... Wife asks, " are you still watching that?" I replied, Nope..it's a NEW series!" Her eye rolls were priceless.
Arken scopes are the way of the future. I bought mine because of your Arken vs Schmidt and Bender an SWFA comparison video an your review of the Arken. Thank you for your knowledge Rex
For the Arken SH4 Gen 2 use CODE: "Rex" with the link: bit.ly/RexReviews For the SWFA SS10x42 I have no discount code, found at www.swfa.com For the Steiner M7xi and the Nikon Black X1000 use code "Rex5" for 5% off at www.opticsplanet.com
I'm not real familiar with scopes for short range what's a decent scope not top end just reliable toss around the truck kinda scope 1 to seven with mill dots?
This is great. It's like the first generation of Sniper 101. Now reworked, upgraded, updated, and reedited. All condensed into a Readers Digest version.
Great to see you going back to the "basics". Like your introduction and use of the weighted priorities matrix. Have used it many times in the past for parts/engineering applications. Folks can apply it for a number of uses. Thanks Rex.
Alotta fancy scopes.my dad wouldn't let me get a scope for my rifle till I could put 5 shots in a dime at fifty yard's open sights. Got my first scope when I was 9
Excellent video. I now have a scientific method to convince my wife I need a new scope! [Edit: I did something wrong. According to my numbers, she believes I need to sell two: Hopefully the next video drops soon!]
I'm about to turn 55 yo , and I grew up in the era when 3-9 ply hunting scopes were the standard . My stepfather and uncles used 3-9x scopes to hunt deer in the woods of South Carolina , North Carolina , and Georgia . My recommendation is to start off with a good quality hunting scope capable of gathering light in field conditions and the ability to provide a wide field of view . A good quality 3-9x scope like a Leupold won't break the bank and will fit nearly every platform . After leaning the basics the individual shooter can go onto other scope types while their starter scope remains a viable tool .
Excellent subject matter great presentation enjoying the subject matter expert. I hope to greatly increase my knowledge base line the overall variety of scopes in their individual benefits and disadvantages, keep up the good work..... it is greatly appreciated and beneficial.
Actually, the SWFA SS 10x42M Tactical 30mm Riflescope Mil-Quad, 1/10 MIL Clicks, 5 MIL Revolution, Side Focus costs $399.95 (this is mine :) Pointing out that if you don't need variable or illumination, as well as being a bit lighter, and according to your matrix, it is prolly comparable to the Arken, if not the go to scope on your list !! Any thoughts Rex ?? Great video start on this appealing series. Looking forward to the rest !! Steph Leesville, LA. Geaux Tigers !!
Dear Mr. Rex, I am a blinded veteran, and I really enjoy listening to your videos. I still shoot and I am currently in the process of obtaining the ATN 4K pro scope that transmits images in real time from the scope to a device. I was wondering if I could get any information on taking your class in the near future as well as well as taking the time to teach a blind veteran on long-distance engagements. It would be an honor to learn from you. Also I love the intro music to this video and I don’t seem to find it on your musical playlist. Is there anyway you could guide me on finding your intro theme song. Much respect from Sergeant Joshua Espinal. May the Lord almighty continue to bless and protect you and your family. Thank you so much for the work that you do.
I would love a 101series on how to preserve liberty. Everything from inviting new folks to the range to supporting political causes and investing/recruiting the younger generation etc.
Rex, given your matrix had factors which were weighted, wouldn't it be better to multiply the weighting for each factor by the score of each factor, then add up the weightings? Also, each weighting should have a cutoff minimum score. For example, if cost/price had a weighting of 3 but scored zero because the optic was so expensive, shouldn't the optic be disregarded? Just some suggestions.
I purchased a savage 110 elite precision in 338. Want to shoot long range at small targets. Do you or anyone have ideas on scope choice? Any info would be appreciated.
On the SWFASS10 that scope by my opinion is not even comparable to the others because the objective lens is much smaller than the rest on your list. We have a SWFASS20x50 and it performs very well. Sure it doesn't have a variable adjustment, but it is only used for longer ranges, 300+... although we can use it at 100, but your target needs to be static for a period in order for you to acquire sight alignment. Which is not hard to do since we perform with both eyes open. But comparing the SWFASS20 to the Vortex PST Gen2 5-25x50, clarity is not far off. Tracking is spot on, and as far as durability goes... without having all the extra moving parts internally it is lighter and very durable. Not trying to discredit your tutorial brother, just thinking all scopes being compared should be compared equally, ( max. power, ie. magnification, objective lens size, and tube diameter.. and so on.), but that is just my opinion. Other than that, great tutorial once again brother!! keep up the awesomeness my friend!! Stay Frosty!
The rifle in the beginning looked familiar. My grandfather's 220 swift was just passed down to me. Killed my first 2 deer with it. Mine has an ole Lyman scope, shoots a little high and to the right. I want more power on top but she's sentimental dang.
"Tracking" scores "Excellent" and "Perfect" at the same grade: "3" -- but if "Perfect" was given a value of "4" then the Arkin and Steiner would both tally up to "12" and we'd have a tie, even though one was seven and a half times as expensive as the other.
Yes sir, it is an example demonstrating one's personal flexibility in defining one's own parameters and quantification procedures. It's mixed up on purpose to convey that concept.
Good question, the best scope will vary completely depending on exactly what you are doing. The possibilities of different logical flow charts are endless. Encyclopedia volumes could not add it up.
@@TiborasaurusRex it's even harder now given since the 101 series there are so many option for optics that are solid. Before getting good glass and tracking in the same package cost $2000+. Not anymore. What a great time to be a shooter. Keep it coming Rex. You're doing great work for the people. You're one of a few go-tos for devices used for precision social purposes.
