This song is almost like an apology to all of the kids that never got one from a parent or loved one that they lost to addiction. Just beautiful. Not many songs can make you cry on the first listen, but this one definitely did.

i wasn't expecting to cry clicking on this video. I've heard the song before but just caught "Sorry I chose drugs over you" and everything came rushing back. My dad was a chronic alcoholic and my mom went to jail my senior year of high school for distributing pills to minors while on coke. Props to Em for getting clean and owning up to his errors. Having 3 kids of my own, I do have to catch myself in what I do give myself to that isn't alcohol or drugs, but can steal time and attention away from them and my wife nonetheless. It's easy to look down on others for giving themselves to drugs while ignoring other things that can still be destructive.

This hits hard bc i lost my mom to alcohol and she DID miss most if not all my life from 8yrs old on. Tried my whole life to get HER back. Couldnt get the demons hooks outta her though. Everything i e ever accomplished i did for her bc i knew she couldnt do for me. Listening to eminem from 5yrs old on i had a good understanding of a failing parent. And I will say it in every comment i post Scru. Youre videos help bring me a sense of calm n peace n happiness that seems to be absent in my day to day life for the most part so i sincerely appreciate you homie.

The song's concept is literally the album's concept (death of Slim Shady). It's an imaginary song (alternate reality). It's story is what if Eminem died and never got clean from drugs. I mean some of the memories he regretted missing in the song didn’t happen yet.

My father's past caught up to him and he passed away last year. He was a user and a dealer...and more. We were never close and i have no good memories of him due to his life style choices. He also never met his granddaughter because of this. I did not expect to hear this and lose it as i have never had a relationship with him. I have always had a list of people i would love to meet and talk to before i die and Eminem has always been #2 on that list because he is a father that changed for his kids but my #1 is Haley. I would love to just talk to her and ask what is it like to have a father that chose to change and live for you. This is my first time ever committing on RU-vid and and felt this was the right song to get my first comment. Much respect.

Not a parent but I often times feel disconnected from my parents (not for drug abuse reasons) and I’ve known people who don’t have parents and how it can affect them. This song got me more than anything has in a good while. I love it so much

when i 1st saw the music video i cryed like a little baby, i was not around for the beginning years of my daughters life i was in the middle of addiction, i mean i was in and out me and my wife were still togther through it all but the night my wife gave birth i went out and got high right after, this song hit me so hard, i missed a whole year of my daughter while being in rehab, i didnt get to see he walk the 1st time or talk. im now 6 years sober and im with her everyday and still married i just feel so bad i put them both through so much. but man this song brought up so much stuff.

this album was definitely a return to form , less choppy robotic flows , better choruses sung by actual singers and the ones he did more so authentic to his vocal abilities and less overly processed , more consistent production , more smooth , charismatic and sound focused , less intentional corny punchlines that have been one of his biggest criticisms across the board , favorite release of his in a long time , the most focused & alive he’s sounded in ages

I don't work at 9:00 to 5:00 I work 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. everyday and then run my own business after that until 10 or 11:00 every night to make sure my kids are taken care of AND I get to come home to them every single day. I got out of the streets a long time ago. Ain't nothing in the streets but death and disappointment. 🤷🤷

I’m a dad now, and everything he says in these videos rings so true. I’ve been in a different emotional state ever since my son was born 😂. I get got by commercials from st Jude’s left and right. 😂

Eminem´s technical ability is undeniable, but what should be talked about more is how he changed what rappers can rap about. Mental health, addiction, personal issues, childhood trauma etc. He dared to be vulnerable. Rap before him mostly reflected the black ghetto life, which is great. When someone like Eminem came along, a new genre opened up. White rappers were seen as jokes before Eminem, no one took them seriously. So Eminem faced alot of hate early on because of that. White people hated him because he "acted black", and black people hated him because he wasn´t black. The establishment hated him because they thought he influenced "white america" negatively. I hate to sound like a fanboi (I´m actually not), because I know how annoying it is. People can like or dislike Eminem and his music, but he has earned his place AMONG the greats due to historical reasons, people´s personal taste has nothing to do with that.

Two thoughts. As a fellow person in recovery, not only do you never forget it and are amazed every day but if you are working the program that he works and that I work, part of that is staying close to what could have happened. We call it "playing the tape forward." Otherwise we can fall into whitewashing exactly how bad it was over time. Second, I was heavy into Eminem during his pill years and whole we vaguely knew he was on drugs, idk if he had the influence you think he did because it was not super public. I remember the whole incident where he basically lied and newspapers even reported that he had gotten heavy and sick due to the flu or pneumonia or something like that but years later we found out it was either a particularly bad incident or maybe his first stint in rehab. Can't remember. In general I think we thought he did some drugs and alcohol but that the crazy shit was hyperbolic like most of his slim shady character stuff. It wasn't like the mid 2010s when the public use of molly and other shit became so heavy popularized.
