Djabugay Aboriginal Corporations' RILINDJI, was created in association with CQUniversity as part of their Cairns Festival Suburban Satellites event "Voice of the River".
Rilindji, tells of the Djabugay people's ancient links to the area now known as Redlynch, Australia. Written by Michael Quinn (linguist) and performed by Dennis Hunter, the film hears the Djabugay language (ngirrma) retelling the storywaters of his gurragurra (ancestors).

This is so beautiful, special & spiritual. Thank you. I am sorry for all of the pain and suffering of being colonised and know that it is very recent and still ongoing. I hope we can all come together as one big family when you are ready and be loving to one another, respecting and conserving and rehabilitating the natural land that is left and keep the stories and languages of the local indigenous first nations peoples forever.

This story is backed up by science... we are fortunate to hear stories from a time long, long ago and that this culture still survives despite the challenges to this day

Great story telling. This video would be brilliant for visitors to Cairns to experience in the surround cinema at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in Cairns. The surround cinema has muliple screens which could also show subtitles in multiple languages such as Japanese and Chinese. As this story speaks about the Barrier Reef, Rainbow Serpent, cassowary etc, they could be shown across the entire cinema floor using the floor projector. I think this could be a great addition to the visitor experience at Tjapukai which is already excellent.

Is there a script for this video I can study? I have a book of Djabuganji language but it doesn’t have sentences just nouns and places.

Climatologists, pay attention! I find it fascinating that Aboriginal people have been in Australia for st least 67 thousand years. It's a shame so many were taken out by the colonists but they must have some awesome wisdom. By comparison it's thought Native Americans have been in North America for about 30 thousand years.
