I’m enjoying your reactions. I always like it when one viewer is familiar with the lore and the other isn’t. Zack asked commented about “look what happened to Eregion; here’s a ring.” I think that’s exactly what Sauron is going to do once he gets the rings: Look what happened to Eregion. The only way to protect your kingdom/people/treasure from becoming Eregion is to use this ring.
A LOT more characters are going to die before this show ends 3 seasons from now. If you know the lore, you know exactly how many of these characters are ultimately doomed.
I know Zach has issues with things. While I agree that there is decent enough material presented in the books. I think, to make an episodic show with strictly what’s in the books would just be too difficult. Book states Sauron disguises himself as Annatar and works with the elven Smiths of Eregion and make the rings.. how do you present that in a show. What does that look like. How do you show the long amount of time he’s there and the long manipulations but also not make it boring for visual media viewing. There is basically no conflict presented in the books until Sauron attacks Eregion. How could you have a show with no conflict until that battle. I don’t agree with everything they’ve done of course. But for me they’ve managed to still give me the broad strokes of what happens in the 2nd age while finding interesting ways to get there and fill in the narrative. Sometimes I feel like Zach jumps to an immediate dislike of something because of where it “could” go before it happens. I wasn’t happy with Adar getting A Ring of Power, but I also knew I needed to reserve judgment until the next episode to see how it plays out.
Completely agree with this. If you look at the actual second age timeline, it just wouldn’t work in a dramatic.adaptation. I appreciate what they are doing in taking Tolkien’s amazing world and ideas and making a compelling show. I don’t agree with everything they do, but I didn’t agree with a lot of what PJ did either.
@@ManchesterEagle I love the Jackson adaptation, but I can also nitpick it to death if I start doing too many book/movie comparisons. What Jackson did brilliantly and what ROP is getting better at is having the changes make sense in-story.
Great episode, awesome battle. Arondir may not be dead, we'll see and I want to see nine man kings who will become Nazguls. And also Elrond married Galadriel's daughter in lore so that was a little weird. I think Adar taking the ring will unintentionally help Sauron. In this episode for the first time I was kinda convinced by this whole ''Adar wants good for orcs'' thing.
Galadriel's ring is Nenya. Gandalf has Narya. I think the third one is Vilya. I want to know the “logic” behind Elrond, of all people, wearing Galadriel’s ring. Even if Gil-galad thought it was a good idea to bring it, he should have been the one wearing it. I spent up to the last shot of the episode thinking the elves had enough brains to leave the ring with Cirdan. I liked having Celebrimbor send the Nine with Galadriel. I also thought they came up with an interesting reason for having Durin show up late. They’re still playing fast and loose with the lore, but I think they’re doing a much better job of having the changes make sense in-story. I probably only liked 25 percent of the show during Season 1, but I’m enjoying most of it in Season 2. I really hope they don’t take a two-year hiatus between Seasons 2 and 3.
Great reaction lads. 🤍❤️ So far, I think it's the best episode of the 2nd season. Action packed, good pacing, and tragic. It wasn't perfect by any means, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the season final.
