How often do you see a songwriter get the prominent mention on an album cover? Still amazed that it took 2 1/2 years for Meatloaf and Steinman to find a label willing to produce this album.
@@glennchannell1241, the Bio Pic movie 'Meat Loaf To Hell & Back' depicts that pretty well, the unbelievable amount of labels that turned them down was uncanny! The movie is a MUST watch! The casting in it is UNREAL !!
@@glennchannell1241Both Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman apparently wanted both names on the front of the album but the record company didn't want that so "songs by Jim Steinman" was the compromise. At least that's what I heard somewhere... may even have been an interview they did around that first tour. Potentially for the Rockpalast appearance
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
Me too, first heard meatloaf at the age of 4, my older brother introduced me to bat out of hell. 43 years later he's still on repeat. Only got see him twice, first time was 1993 as an 18 year old me and my mate travelled by car from perth to melbourne (over 2000 miles) to see him, was worth it. Second time I saw him was in 2011, fortunately I didn't have to travel as he played a show in Perth, was a great night and a big crowd.
@@authorsamueljwhitereviewsi8331 i saw him when I was 12 to 14ish in the early 00's... I'm sad to say o didn't enjoy it... I wish I appreciated it when I could.
@@matthewpopow6647 That's understandable I was 15 when I first saw him in 1999 maybe I appreciated it a bit more at the time. Still wish I could have seen I'm in the 70s and 80s
The Maestro Todd Rundgren on Guitar, and yes the Motorcycle sounds at the end is Todd's mastery. Damn he even paid for the album to get made when Meat's Record Company pulled the plug, AND he produced it, when no one else would. Without Todd Rundgren, there would be no Meatloaf, PERIOD.
Crying. Meat just fucking killed that. And the arrangement and every note of the arrangement/production. Basically Utopia with Roy Bittain and Max Weinberg are the band.
Ah the original Neverland Express. Because of course that’s the name of the backing band. Because Steinman wrote these songs with a musical he didn’t get going until the end of his life. It’s the second musical he wrote about Peter Pan. …Peter Pan?
And he'll continue to do so. Meat Loaf has transcended three/four generations. My dad was born in 1961 and became a huge fan of his as a teenager when he debuted in the 70s. I was born in 1990. I used to borrow and listen to my dad's Meat Loaf cassettes and CDs in the 2000s up until I started buying my own. Now here I am in my 30s, watching younger adults and teens discovering him.
@@VileMisanthrope ain't it great???? I'm 56. Grew up on Meat too. And thank u for respecting his name. It's Meat Loaf, like u say. Not Meatloaf. Cheers
@justanotherveganonyoutube710 yeah don't get me wrong, JB is amazing, and I expect him to surprise everyone with some serious dramatic acting (like Robin Williams). Comedy is more challenging than drama. It's just a shame Meatloaf was never taken seriously as an actor. Totally overlooked and underutilized.
Meat was an opera singer who was led to sing rock music. He had the ability to make those songs, and with the writing of Jim Steinman, they fabricated a classic sound that became ‘Meatloaf’. His ability to go through the ranges was spectacular, from the softest whisper to the harshest rock-roar. An undeniably great singer.
It might interest you that Meatloaf was a HeldenTenor, or Heroic Tenor. A very rare voice indeed. AS one who was lucky enough to see him a couple of times in my life I can tell you the stage shows are the same as this video. Everything is very theatrical and follows a story, like an opera would. The albums need to be listened to in order and in their entirety to really get it.
He was one of the voices of my childhood, my parents would play Bat out of Hell 2 over and over again when it came out in 1993, losing Meat hurts big time but I also know he's now if a far better place and without pain, Thanks for the music you gave the world Mr. Loaf.
fun fact : and old 90s rolling stone magazine rated it at number 7 of the most important moments in modern music history ....." jim steinman meets meat loaf " . agreed
Just FYI, that was Todd Rundgren on those amazing guitar rifts, including the motorcycle sound. Even some experienced Harley riders couldn't believe it. The piano is Jim Steinman, the writer and composer of the song. Please also understand Meat Loaf 's music is theater of the mind, and first time listen is best done from the vinyl or CD with the volume turned up to one notch below ear bleed, and your eyes closed for the entire album or CD. Then go back and listen to individual songs or videos. It is important that you get the entire mental play in your head first, before you nosedive into individual songs.
@@jimmyhayes7990 that is the point i was trying to convey. Meatloaf always said he was an actor, who could sing. Every song is a character he creates within himself. Though Steinman was very heavily influenced by Vockner, hence the advice to play through every album at almost ear bleed volumes, entirely of course, before listening to individual songs, because it is theatre of the mind. Even the non-Steinman records Meatloaf put out adhear to this advice. Personally, I am stupified that 'Hang Cool Teddybear' didn't reach sales levels of Bat I or Bat II. To me the musical performance, the writing, and most of all Meatloafs performance on Teddybear is as good if not better than Bat I.
Piano is actually Roy Bittan of the E Street band. This is Steinman on piano on the video but it's Bittan on the actual track. Much like Karla DeVito is synching to Ellen Foleys vocal on paradise by the dashboard light video.
Marvin's diction was incredible! When he tried out for The Rocky Horror Picture Show the director told him that the cast for the stage production had trouble getting all the words in on his songs. Meatloaf looked at the lyrics and said, no problem, I can get 'em all--and he did! Definitely one of a kind; requescat en pace Marvin Aday, our beloved Meatloaf!😥
Hi Maggie, the girl u see in this video and in the paradise one is Karla Devito. She toured with meatloaf from 1977 - 1980. Patti Russo didn’t start with him until the 1990’s. Karla did lip sync on the official paradise video to the original singer on the album Ellen Foley, who never toured. They did this to make the video sound the same as the record. But Karla did sing live on tour. There is a concert from 1978 “live in Rockoplast” Germany (1:44m long) that shows Karla actually singing. Great live versions of these songs and there is also an interview at the end with meat and Jim steinman the composer and piano player.
If you thought bar out of hell was good then I suggest you listen to meatloaf’s song “For crying out loud” truly epic talent and such a beautiful song. Definitely one worthy of a video
The song is about this: he is riding on his motorcycle and he dies in an accident, as he is dying he can see his heart beating and then his soul flying out of his body
Hi Maggie, 'Objects in the rear view mirror ', 'For crying out loud 'and 'Heaven can wait ' all by Meat Loaf are excellent, beautiful and incredibly moving songs. It would great if you could review them please. The world has suffered a huge loss with the passing of him.
Thank you for your lovely comment! 💖 Hope you are having a lovely weekend! 😊 Can't wait to see you tomorrow on my livestream: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wqnYJzLorBk.html
I remember when I first got this album in late fall of 1977. I was blown away! Meatloaf was a brilliant new light in a time when the light of 60s / 70s Rock was fading. A new style to be sure but the same spirit. Great choice of song, Great reaction and analysis. Fine editing. 🦇
I saw Meat live in concert for this very album. Instead of an opening act, they had a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. His performance was amazing, especially when he was basically humping the grand piano! He put his all into his performance, and they often had to give him oxygen on stage (not sure if it was for real or just theatrical). I burned through several copies of the album, on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, and finally CD.
@@AudiophileTubes Fair enough, I would also add Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath, and Uriah Heep Gypsy as Side 1 Album 1's that changed the landscape as well as RUN DMC's Hard Times, although it was the 2nd song Rock Box that got the attention of most, The Ramones Blitzkreig Bop, Zep's Good Times Bad Times, Tori Ames Crucify etc in no particular order
@@toddstevens13 Good choices! Truth be told, when you think about it, there were many seminal debut albums 'back in the day', that helped shape rock music, or had other great impacts for the genre. I'm 62, so as i'm feeling the pains of aging, I still love to reflect on all the great music we had growing up back then! My album and CD collection is 'like gold' to me! And my other craze and obsession is vintage stereo systems and speakers, most from 'the golden age of hi-fi', as they used to call it! Cheers! Happy Eclipse Day too (I write this on April 8)!
Thanks for loving my man and appreciating his vocals. Just remember his best music came from Jim Steinman. They were the ideal combination for great music.💕
Some people are meant to create. Some are meant to perform. Every once in a while, you can get both of them together and get something truly special out of it.
I found Meat Loaf far to late. Really enjoy watching the videos of him. The show they did in 1999 at the Hard Rock Cafe is the greatest. Your right he's one of the few you can understand 99 percent of what he says. He had such a hard life. Guitar for motorcycle, shows it in one of videos of his life.
Like a Bat out of Hell.. Enough said, master peace on every level.. Todd Rundgren on guitar is epic as well very accomplished before and post Bat out of Hell. He did the motorcycle sounds as well, in one take also.
I think TODD RUNDGREN produced/engineered this album.. and i think it is him on keyborads here. and as he also plays guitar.. the motorcycle sounds by guitar...
That motorcycle sound is actually an electric guitar sound effect, it’s good though. I watched a video about music these days that explained because everything is edited on computers they do something in the editing process that compresses the db which means the instruments all blend together and nothing actually stands out, in the old days they recorded everything rough and raw which gave the sound a more dynamic depth, so technology and laziness have in part ruined music.
**This is a re-post of my previous video which had issues on RU-vid!** SPECIAL QUESTION FOR YOU: What/who should I listen to next?! __ In today’s video, I show you my reaction, as a Juilliard trained opera singer, to Meat Loaf music video of Bat Out of Hell! 🤘🎶💖 Help make these videos possible: Patreon.com/MaggieRenee Follow me on Instagram: @MaggieReneeMusic Thank you for your support! 💖
I second the idea of Procol Harum Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark 2006. RIP Gary Brooker. Also RIP Mark Lanagen. Should do the live version of Mad Season Long Gone Days.
That is because rappers cannot speak English properly. Rap is not music it is gutter noise. When you grow up listening to Meatloaf it is hard to take country music seriously, lets face it every song sounds the same.
Stick to listen to the lyrics and the quality of the music instead of your opinion of vocal quality..... Vocal quality speaks for itself... We all know he has a great voice we don't need you to tell us... You'll never see me again...
Let me preface this with I have always thought Meatloaf was a beautiful man. Second my creative mind seeing your face next to his leads me to believe that if you ever wanted to pull off an amazing drag performance you could pull off Meatloaf. Hell I'd pay cover to see it. And if anyone has the vocal chops and theatrical presence to do it it has to be an opera singer. Am I right?
Seeing him live was almost a religious experience, bikers with tears welling up, women with upturned faces streaked with tears, jumping along to the piano carnival, 🎶staggered by a throbing guitar Aug 30, 1978 with Eddie Money at the Merriweather Post Pavilion Columbia, Maryland.🎸🎼🎵 This was the night after seeing the Doobie Brothers at the same venue.😎 I was 11 years old with my Mom, and her friend, and her 13 year old redheaded daughter Cherry Lynn in a VW camper bus.💘 Got stoned, frenched, and 2nd base, all it cost me was my heart. 💋 The concerts were Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday they left for a job in LA never to be seen by me again.💔
My aunty was an opera singer. I'm from Australia, and my father played golf with people from lots of other nationalities. On Sat night, they would often gather at someone's place, and they would all join together using anything handy as an instrument. She would come along and enjoyed hearing the difference in style from different nations. In her process to teach me to sing better(I was playing in a band), I introduced her to ABBA, QUEEN, and Meatloaf. She was amazed by these peoples' talent. Even took her to see Rocky Horror Picture Show, and she was blown away. She said in her field there was no error for mistake, but in her observations, that 70% of people didn't care if it was spot on.
The motorcycle sound is definitely guitar. It's a trick used with a tremolo. Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai have used similar techniques. It's pretty cool the sounds you can produce with a well executed tremolo.
You missed out on the lyrics and therefore the powerful story being sung to you in Meat Loaf's theatrical way. He is going back to the woman his finally realiazed he loved but he died in a bike wreck His lyrics are about watching himself from above, taking his last breaths and then watching his Spirit leaving his body to the Hereafter , Like a Bat Out Of Hell
And he did it all with asthma! Check Meat out singing the National anthem before a ballgame. I think it wa s in '94 or '95. I first heard it a couple of years ago and it blew me away! You have a new sub!
Some of the lip sync is because of the problems in the videos with syncing the video and audio. He did have different women in his performances and studio recordings, but each of the girls sang their parts,. Except on "I'd do anything for love..." where the young lady was a model used for the video and she was lip syncing. Once you're through your Meatloaf journey, take a look at Chris Stapleton, especially where he sings "Tennessee Whiskey" live at Austin City Limits. The blonde singing backup is his wife and he's singing to her. ENJOY!!!
Yeah, earbuds in 1977!🤭 He had an IPhone in his electric car too!🤪 Sorry, can't stop LMAOROTF!😂🤣🤗 I was 25 when this album came out, we were still livin' in caves hunting mastodons!🙄💯😁❤️✌️
This album has sold over 43 Million copies making it one of the best selling albums ever. strange to think most record company's at the time wanted nothing to do with it.
Great move by bringing in the intro separately. What a beginning, and it shows the kind of power you're in for with the rest of the song. I swear, the first time I heard that ending, I was left in pieces. Just blown apart by the power of that last note. The Loaf was just unreal in the power and ferocity with which he could hit a note.
Meatloaf was not the typical pretty boy front man singer but what he lacked there...he made up with his larger than life vocals and theractrical presence! R.I.P meatloaf...I'm sure you rocking the Heavens!
Bat Out of Hell and the first Boston album were the musical theme of my High School years. The writing and musicianship on both albums were incredible. Only way to truly appreciate them is in the car, roaring down a back road with the cassette deck cranked up to just below the clipping point.
my personal fave that most people don't know of since it wasn't part of the bat trio is "a kiss is a terrible thing to waste" feat. David Lloyd Weber. and one that most people do now, but I don't see to often in rxn vids is "life is a lemon and I want my money back" ☺️
I love the loaf, hauling coal on the night shift , kept all the other drivers awake bye belting out Anything For Love, on the CB, good times on the job lol
I've just watched you fall head over heels for Meat Loafs epic voice. You should also listen to his song For Crying Out Loud from the Bat Out Of Hell album. His voice on this track is so powerful and pure and in my humble opinion is his finest vocal work.
