I still think he made a stupid decision. “So bad it’s good” is its own market and he was sitting on a goldmine. If he just embraced the memes and rolled with the punches he could’ve turned this project into a net-win, at least from a financial perspective. Look at Neil Breen. Dude has taken it all on the chin and just continues to make films regardless of how hilariously awful they are. And you know what? He’s earned respect from the film community, and now people actually anticipate his films and fully support him so he could continue to make more. Jeremy Spencer could’ve been that if he just embraced what Psycho Synner was and continued to make trash. But no, he took his ball and went home. Shame.
He definitely missed out on a huge opportunity to capitalize on the memes and hatred, but I also don't think he's confident or humble or self-aware enough to embrace that completely.
I respectfully disagree. Psycho Synner/Sexual, what have you, were the only band I have ever heard where I could legitimately understand all of those parents in the 1980s who went on about how satanic metal was and how it was only noise and so on and so forth. Robert himself said in response to someone saying that Six Feet Under was Death Metal's answer to Tommy Wiseau's "The Room" that as bad as that movie was, there was still some actual passion in every aspect of the film even if said passion was misplaced. I never heard any amount of passion in any of Psycho Synner's work. For me, any amount of possible entertainment that can come from a piece of media needs to have some amount of passion in it. But with Psycho Synner, all that was got was a total of 10 or so albums of laziness and blatant metal stereotypes that sound more like a 1980s parent's idea of metal. An idea born out of genuine dislike for the genre and with those stereotypes in the music, it amounts to a lack of passion with absolutely nothing that I find salvageable. Get what enjoyment you can out of it, but I simply cannot find anything redeemable about Psycho Synner or Psycho Sexual.
I disagree because I don’t think Psycho Synner ever entered the realm of “so bad it’s good”, and there’s a way to achieve fame and even profit off it. Psycho Synner was just straight up terrible. I have to imagine their albums weren’t selling, I have to imagine whatever live shows they may have done drew small crowds, and I also have to imagine that Jeremy Spencer isn’t capable of laughing at himself. If I’m wrong about any of those premises someone please let me know, but if you can’t profit off of being a joke, then he’s got nothing to gain.
@@Kalopsia666 I will concede that I don't know much about the band other than what most people already know. With that being said, I still stand by the stance that I already layed out. If others can enjoy it, that's fine. But apparently if it was to be enjoyed (based on the way it turned out) in that "so bad it's good" way, then Jeremy Spencer couldn't enjoy that way himself. So now he's taking away something that some people enjoy because others didn't enjoy it in the way he thought they would. If you enjoy something, just do it. Fuck what other people think. But it appears at least to me (admittedly, this is just pure speculation) that Jeremy Spencer brought an end to Psycho Synner because others didn't like it. To me, that reinforces the idea that there wasn't any passion. A lack of passion is the one thing in music that I simply cannot forgive. Either way, enjoy them? Go ahead and listen to them. Everyone has their own tastes and that's what makes the world go around. Isn't it?
I said this on one of those semi rotted videos but Psychosexual is nostalgic at this point. This band embodied EVERYTHING that was awful about 2020. If we took all the horrible shit that year and made it into a metal band it would absolutely be Psychosexual
We shall have a funeral service for this shi- I mean… “Legendary” project from Jeremy. Rest in Peace to Psycho Synner. You will be remembered… For all the wrong reasons.
It's fascinating to see the phenomenon of 'band gets cyber bullied out of existence' happening more and more, this reminds me of what happened with The Trap Stamps, but more drawn out over time
Tramp Stamps is slightly different because they were a pop punk/alternative band that fundamentally didn't understand the punk/alternative scene and were very disingenuous - presenting themselves as a cool new independent band that just HAPPENED to pop off on TikTok when in reality they were all singers and models with big money support. Psycho Synner, was just really really really cringe lmao
I often wonder if Jeremy Spencer had a towering ego based off his success in FFDP, and legitimately thought he could automatically succeed in whatever he released outside of that project. As you touch on in the video, the biggest problem with the project was the violent and sexual content of the music, at least combined with what the music actually was. It’s one thing for, idk, edgy teenagers to make sexual and violent death metal, but when it’s a grown man with a family making what amounts to the metal equivalent of pop music, the extreme themes are going to make people immediately uncomfortable. In any case, rest in pieces, Psycho Synner, I hope I don’t see you again.
Ripbozo to the Psycho Synner project. His music may be awful, but we laughed, cried, cringed, mildly entertained, etc. at his quantitive low-quality work of art.
I'll miss Psycho Synner I won't lie. The sheer absurdity of such an unbelievably awful project was one of the most hilarious aspects of the past 3 years. Truly the end of an era 💔
Is there any possibility of Wayback Machining Jeremy’s unique musique into archival? I’m sorry but that shit can’t be allowed to permanently fade away. It’s too funny.
I don’t anyone cares about Psychosexual or Psychosynner or whatever you wanna call them. I’m actually glad they’ve been scrubbed from the internet. Let’s hope nobody does anything that bad ever again
It was about time this would happen. I say thanks Jeremy Spencer for all the memes even if musically your band was atrocious. Now, I’ll try to speedrun listening to the Psycho Synner discography just for laughs.
RIP to the Tommy Wiseau of Metal. people make Bad music but Devil Daddy MASTERED the formula of making bad music, that almost no one else could do, it’s impressive. Now the only thing we have close to that type of magic in the works of metal is Dungeon Wolf, Six Feet Under and Tougher than Nails. But it’ll never be the same rip. *Now back to listening to actual Good Artists like Opeth*
Jeremy: Why was my band so hated? Also Jeremy: Makes shitty music about disturbing topics and not songs that were good but happened to be dark or disturbing like: Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter or Zombie by the Cranberries. Whined like a 60 year old man about cancel culture just like his old buddy Ivan and named his band Psychosexual and then Psychosynner. People think MGK may have made the worst music but dude at least knew how to make music.
I fell down a rabbit hole when they randomly popped up somewhere on instagram. I believe it was an ad for their nine albums that had just dropped. I spent a few hours looking at their social media, where they had over 100k followers, but like 8 or 9 likes per post. The only comments were either bots or these two weird "fan" accounts based in like Italy and Germany (which I'm sure were also run by Jeremy. I don't know, that whole thing was just weird and sad. A few months ago, I tried to find them again and, you're right, almost everything had been scrubbed. I'm sure it's even harder to find that stuff now. So, thank you so much for making this and keeping the nightmare alive hahaha
To this day, the only Psycho Synner/Psychosexual album I’ve ever listened to was their debut album Torch the Faith. I couldn’t bear to listen to anything else. God bless you anyone else who managed to listen to all of their albums.
Great video dude i liked it a lot u made my sunday much better thsn it was metal melt down keep up the great uploads dude and i hope u get to 20k subs soon my dude u truly desvere them metal meltdown 😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘😁
Its been 3 years now? I remember your review of that lone Psychosexual album. That was the video that introduced me to you and this channel. It's amazing how time flies isn't it?
People actually have reuploaded some of their music. In particular, Torch the Faith is available in full on RU-vid, and I think someone uploaded that album to Bandcamp too for a free download. Also, one song from that album didn't appear on the next 9 releases. That was Afterlife Wife. But I don't blame you for overlooking that. I agree with you as well. They were definitely the worst metal band that I heard, and hopefully ever will.
Its hard not to be a bad drummer in FFDP. Their current drummer is phenomenal but in FFDP he may as well be Jeremy Spencer. That band really writes between the lines. Their new guitarist is great too but all his stuff in FFDP sounds like anyother song they've done. Its like Godsmack. Whatever talent they have is second fiddle to radioplay and festival anthems
It’s a shame it’s wiped from the internet. Content that makes you feel a little better about yourself and whatever shit show situation you’re in is important.
You either leave one meme to become a bigger meme and embrace the meme. Or you leave one meme, become an even bigger meme and can’t handle it, then go start another meme.
Devil Daddy was defeated by the force of us: the cupcakes! RIP PsychoSynner, maybe you will be alive if you embraced the meme. Side note: PsychoSynner has ever performed in a live show?
"The worst of all time" now? Now that's a stretch, what with Machine Head and Six Feet Under still around. At least Psycho Synner was "So bad, it's good", unlike those two bands who were just plain bad from the get-go (yes, MH have always been bad, you won't change my mind).
I really hope they put there music back up. I loved all there songs. In reality if u really have a passion it doesn’t matter if the whole world turns on u. People make art for them selfs and let the fans come and be part of there art 😈
I just checked everything they made has been archived on youtube, the day is saved! I listened to a couple songs and its not that bad, not good, but not mind numbingly bad.
If Jeremy had done the whole Psychosexual thing as a straight-up comedy act and leaned into how memeworthy the whole image and presentation was, he could have actually done really well out of it. He was sitting on a goldmine of comedy with the whole Devil Daddy character and it sucks that he didn't seem to have the self-awareness to realise that.
In the blabbermouth interview, it's like Jeremy Spencer denies the core issue of songwriting. The band was bad because they wrote bad songs. It had nothing to do with the "lightheartedness" they were putting out there.
You need to stick to your artistic vision with any art project while knowing when to adjust things. But double down a bit at times too in the right situation
A sad day for music Let the let the sin begin you'll be wiping my love that's from your chin 5:14 also i regret to inform you I own The Torch The Faith cd so it will at least live on in one music collection
I’m still astonished that a band like this could even exist. I still view Torch The Faith as the worst album I’ve ever heard only being out-sucked by Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall, but I didn’t think it’d be purged from the Internet. I also never thought they’d be crazy enough to just put out 9 records in one day, more cringe inducing than usual, including 2 more records that were just awful, only to be purged for good. On some level, I should be glad that Psychosexual or PsychoSynner isn’t tainting the music sphere, but at the same time…I wouldn’t want it to be gone forever.
I actually enjoyed most of Torch The Faith. Yes, the lyrics are like they came from a sick mind 😅 but well, it's "art". Gotta keep an open mind. I own a copy of it. Don't need to stream it anymore. As a one off project, cool. But for it to become a serious thing to continue, I don't think it would've worked. Good for Jeremy for ditching it and continue instead with other projects.
Maybe Steven Adler can hook Jeremy up wirh a Corey Taylor soundalike from the same well as his Axl soundalike. The state fair circuit is quite lucrative.
The lyrical themes don't bother me. I like the writings of Sade. But it seems like he was trying too much to sell a product that lacks the basic ingredients that makes it a good product.
Sure it was bad, but it was the funny kind of bad, like Tommy Wiseau's "The Room." Jeremy Spencer should've probably kept it going for a few more years and maybe he would've been successful.
