Excellent video. I was fascinated watching the atmospheric disturbance of the bullet on its way. I have read about the phenomenon but never seen it before. Thank you for taking the time to explain what is involved.
The distances you are expiring these things at is incredible. Fantastic Videos, no crap, no daft Music, just action and humble narative...brilliant..thank you.
Thanks for the great vids Mark, really good stuff! I was originally planning on building myself a 7 SAUM to shoot the 162 Amax but when Hornady released the new ELD-X line the 143s caught my eye. Their outstanding BC - even above that of its 162gr 7mm brother - has now changed my mind. I'm now instead going to build a .260Ai and throat it to take the new 143s (Vel of a 6.5-284 but 5 grains less powder :-) ). I've been watching your tube for a while and love your stuff. For me personally I'd like to see some more behind the scenes stuff like: More in depth reloading: How you prep your brass, how you work up your loads, what you look for in a precision load. What components you use and why - reloading and actually rifle kit - and how you go about setting it up. I - like many - have there own way of doing things but i still love to watch and learn how others do things. Keep up with the good vids Cheers
fantastic tip an superb quality shooting, only problem shooting something so far is walking up an down hills at half a mile to fetch them lol :) brilliant work as always keep it up atvb sv
think it's the 3 time I've seen this video great shooting!! like the guy on this post before me said best shooting on RU-vid! looking forward to new videos
260rips Hello! It's me again! I want to ask You why You decided to shoot 260rem and You recommended me 6,5x55SE over 260rem? Could You make a little comparison between these two calibers ? Taking into consideration- stopping power, where the trajectory will be flatter? You told me 6,5x55SE will be good for foxes and roe deers plus it will be very nice for long range. Will 260rem be nice for roe deer as well as 6,5x55SE?
Can't get enough of your vids keep me comming, can you make one on wind, wind estimation, using wind in a app instead of a kestrel, and where do you enter your wind at example the shooter, the target, or combine all 3. Thanks agin
Superb skills...only one teenie weenie room for improvement, and please take this in the spirit it is meant, get "quieter" plastic for your spare battery bag. Love your videos, you are superb sir.
Iv seen that you use a .223 also, but just got one and I wondered what rounds you'd recommend (weight and manufacturer if possible)for my 1 in 9 twist 20inch barrelled .223 for rabbits and foxes, my land allows shots to 500 yards and an average range of about 200 yards. Cheers mate and once again a fantastic video with loads of tips especially the drinking straw! Happy shooting.
Its a 260 rem mate, rifle is a rem 700 custom, Keep an eye out in the next vid as I've already recorded a section for it showing the rifle a little more and a little gabble about it ;-)
This is awesome shooting. Can't get anywhere near this with my .243 or .17hmr. Just put a photon on the .243 and bagged a fox. My .17 is deadly accurate up to 120yds then it gets about a 5 inch drop anything further than 150.
Hi I've recently started watching your videos and am in awe of your ability. Were you professionally trained? Love the countryside you shoot over, it's perfect for your type of shooting and reminds me of parts of the Wiltshire downs where I have been lucky enough to have permission in the past. I gave up my guns a long time ago but love watching others either on here or in the field. Please keep up the good work
Steve Murphy thank you 👍 no I’m self taught, having the ground like that has rather sculpted the type of shooting I do, it’s not easy to get close to foxes up there!
I'm buying a t3x ctr in 6.5 creedmore for some stretch out work and was wondering what projectiles you find best in your rig. Love the vids, they inspire all of us to lift our game lol
Love your videos, I just came across them last week and have watched quite a few. I was wondering what bullet you were using in your 260 and at what velocity you are running them? Thanks for putting out a quality video!!
When I see the distances involved, I have to tell myself again and again “ no, these are not laser guided bullets”. It beats me how it can be done but fair play👍☘️
hello @260rips and thank you for the video, - some pretty impressive shooting there! :) I do have a couple of questions: how much does your rifle weigh scoped ? is it uncomfortable stalking with, that is if you stalk of course :) And, why do you need to compute the barrel length, if you already know the muzzle velocity ? Thank you, and Keep up the good work! :) Claus
Brother man All your videos are pure Gold in information. Been wanting to ask you I've been wanting to buy a 17 wsm rifle but I'm not sure of what brand or if you even recommend the 17 wsm as a good rifle up to 250 or 300 yards? Again thanks for taking the time to make this videos and god bless you
Benjamin Cortez Hi mate firstly thanks for watching 👍 To be honest this calibre isn't one I've any experience with I'm afraid! However with regards to rifle choice I'd say more st factory rifles these days seem to be very accurate straight from the factory. The tikka and cz rifles are good as is the Browning x-bolt and I have been very impressed with the Bergara b14 for quality and value for money 👍
260rips brother man I really appreciate all this info I'm definitely taking your advice on these rifles God bless you and thanks for taking the time to reply and answer my doubts take cae and keep on shooting 😎👍🏼
Mark. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I'm thinking of buying a Remington 700 (for 223 calibre) for long range target practice. Can you recommend a good scope. I had a shotgun at one stage but never a rifle. I'd like to buy one. Thanks john
Hi mate, a rem 700 is a good rifle to buy if you wish to customise it as there are lots of aftermarket extras to enhance them further. For an out if the box accurate rifle I'd buy a tikka t3 varmint for long range. A 6.5 cal would be a better choice for long range however if you be sure to go with a 1-8 twist barrel a 223 will shoot the heavier bullets which will be better at range. As for a scope my first choice would be a nightforce atacr if its in your budget, if not have a look at vortex and sightron scopes. Any questions feel free to ask 👍
Top stuff fella, good tips and advice. Great shooting by the way. Question, would it be worth getting a Kestrel for rimfire shooting (HMR specifically) in you opinion or use the Strelok app? ATBFrankie
Cheers mate for rimfire ranges strelok would be fine, just get a cheap wind meter and save a few hundred quid! Kestrel is a great bit of kit but strelok will give the same info out to about 400 or so yards ;-)
Any chance you can do a video of you doing load development from new bullet from start to finish, ie to shooting final group? I'd love to see your process you use for getting the most out of your bullet/rifle combo. Then hopefully i can apply some of your Technique to mine. i think it would be great. Cheers Gavin.
Hi Gavin I will need to be doing that again soon as my 260 barrel is now pretty shot out! Also having trouble getting the powder I currently use so yep, I will video the process!
You know how to use your kit.. and it works well for you. I am very much in awe. Great shooting!!! what is the caliber you shoot, I assume .260. Thank you for the videos I subscribed !
What is your opinion on the 6,5x55 Swedish Mauser cartridge? I have a Sauer chambered in that round, i havent been able to shoot at any longer distances yet but i've shot a fair amount of roe and wildboar with it at 0-150m with great results. I shoot the 10,1g Lapua Mega.
I had a swede before my 260, a sako 75, that was one accurate rifle! The ballistics are very similar to the 260 so its a great long range rifle. Friend of mine had a swede ackley and on a long range shoot was hitting a target at a mile within 2 or 3 shots! Won't go far wrong with that cal mate ;-)
Hello Mark. I noticed you use an anti can't indicator . When setting up your scopes do you go as far as using an alignment tool and lapping kit? Thanks again for great videos.
When I set this rifle up I didn't but I seem to have got it pretty spot on somehow! However next time I set a scope up I will most likely either use a mount with a levelling wedge or use a kit
you're an awesome shooter , when i look at your shoot life seem so easy lol can you tell me which telescope you use to zoom so powerfully on target thank you very much i follow you with great interest Thierry
Good question, It all depends on weather conditions, as in strength and angle of the wind in relation to the target. It also depends on what I'm shooting at, small game like birds I will take longer shots on as its either hit or miss and a hit is almost certainly a kill on small game due to the damage inflicted by a centrefire rifle. Larger game such as deer or fox I will limit my range depending on conditions. In general I'm confident with my drops to shoot to 1000 yards or so in good conditions yet in blowy conditions it may only be out to 300 yards ;-)
Mark. What do you think of a Bergara B14 Sporter Varmint in 308 caliber. Someone has recommended it to me for target shooting out to distance - say up to 700-800 yds. They also suggest a vortex viper pst gen 2 5-25 x 50 scope. Would this be a good entry level combination for long distance target shooting? Bergara has a heavy 24" barrell and a 1:10 twist. This rifle and scope type would be about as far as my budget would stretch. I've no real interest in hunting (done lots with shotgun when I was younger). But really interested in getting into target shooting now - perhaps F-tr class. Someone said Bergara are based on the Rem 700 and less expensive to modify than Tikka t3x that I had been zooming in on, that they are nearly just as good as Tikka out of the box. Also what do you think of Jet Z moderators. They look short and neat and I've heard good reports. Can you recommend a mod thats affordable with good sound reduction. Any advice? Really enjoy your videos. Thanks. John m
john m hi John, yes mate you’ve had some good advice! I tested the b14 a few months back and was very impressed with it and think they are as good or better than rifles twice the price! You will get the most from it by loading your own Ammo. Vortex scopes are also very good and good value! The best mod you will find is one of the Mae range like the t12 scout as I use or the new compact is very nice! Speak to Julian at jms arms he will give you best advice as to which model etc, real nice bloke Www.jmsarms.com
Caiaiman the faster the twist the heavier bullet you can shoot, most 22-250 rifles are designed for mid weight bullets so have a 1-12 twist, ideally for long range you want to be shooting 80 or 90 grain Ammo so 1-9 or better still 1-8 if you can get one 👍
I agree best shooter on u-tube! I been watching now 2pl mo. Mark do you run a shooting school ? Reading about England gun laws , , you must be licensed , yes ? Do you ever go abroad?
Robert Mintz I’m hoping to start running weekend courses in the future and yes, you need to hold a firearms certificate to own a firearm here. I do go abroad but not shooting although travelling with a firearm to go shooting is permitted with the correct paperwork
Hey Mark, I'm able to put 10 rounds in just under an inch at 100m, and a best of about 0.6moa for 5 shots, but normal around 0.8 to 0.9 MOA at 100m for 5 shots. Do you think that my rifle and ammo combination at this accuracy is good enough for your kind of long range varminting? , not taking into shooter ability, purely from and equipment standpoint. Cheers mate.
Brett Morley That sounds pretty good anything under an inch is pretty good in my book 👍 my rifle and ammo comb shoots pretty consistently 0.5 moa which at 1000 yards would be around a 5" group
You make it look so easy, I thought I was the dogs bollox when I was shooting foxes at 300m. Seeing the vid of nailing a rabbit 600m+ Makes my 300m fox quite shit! I shoot 22-250 hornady v max 50gr. Any other bullets you could recommend to try?
Cheers mate, 300 yard fox is still a good shot. Weather conditions make a big difference at longer ranges so I choose to use a heavy 140 grain bullet to buck the wind however a lighter bullet will have less of a curved trajectory when shooting further so its a bit of a trade off. A 22-250 is a nice flat shooting calibre with a 55 grain bullet although the further out you go the more the wind will knock it about. My preference is generally for hornady ballistic tip bullets, currently I'm using A-max until the newer eld-x bullets are available here in the uk. Enjoy the channel, there's a 1001 yard rabbit shot somewhere on here! ;-)
+260rips I've fretted over deer at 500 yards (I'm a soft bugger, I don't like to see them suffer) and you hit something that size. I am in awe of you sir! Happy hunting and stay safe!
yes the nv4500 and several other newer models have a ballistic calculator built in which will factor in weather conditions and give you the moa correction
Thank you, yes mate everything shot is considered vermin and shot under the general licence. Thanks for watching please subscribe and enjoy the channel ;-)
Great vid as usually...just wondering are you participating in long range competitions around Britain/Europe 300m or more...from what i see i think you would at least give top dogs a good run for their money...or its just not your thing...?
Thanks but no, I don't shoot competitively simply because I don't get the time to be diving around the country shooting comps. There's also the issue of the amount of ammo you use! As I reload its often a struggle to get certain powders etc which is annoying so it makes your ammo quite precious!
Tx for answering, i understand what you mean...though i think rabbits and foxes from your area would get you all the precious powder in the world just to get you off their backs for a while... :)
