This is the demolition of the bridge that carried the Sirhowy Railway line, not to be confused with the original long bridge that was demolished in the early 1900's
Great video, I remember this bridge well, however, it's not the long bridge as titled, it's the Sirhowy line bridge. Risca long bridge did start at this point but crossed the bars field to the brickworks and was a multi arched brick viaduct which carried a horse drawn plate way/tram line and was demolished way before this bridge. This bridge the Sirhowy line bridge crossed to an embankment that ran along the edge of the bars field to another brick multi arched bridge that crossed the ebbw river and then ran up to the Blackvein colliery and then on up to and through the Sirhowy valley and all its collieries. The bars field is at the height we see it today simply because the embankment was bulldozed across the then road lever bars field.
Well it isn't the long bridge, that was knocked down in c1905. The bridge above was the Sirhowy railway bridge. The railway line was closed, so no need for the arch anymore. There were 5 more arches over the river Ebbw, these were connected to this arch by an embankment, that ran along side the playing field.
