Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons Is VERITABLY INSANE 

Man, when I found this as a kid, I was just happy that my favorite characters would just hang out and be friends....

RBTD brings back so many memories, I was at least 10-11 when I came across this, and I was so amazed and fascinated by this. My middle school fandom obsession lol, as well as some of my friends. I read some stories and see the art and I love everything about The Big Four. I’m not ashamed to admit that I like it, I enjoy it. I've read a lot of fanfictions of The Big Four and the dynamic of Hiccup, Rapunzel, Jack Frost and Merida really amazing, I love these four together, such an adorable and amazing friendship. They need to make movies on these four, I would pay money to see them in theaters together. Yes, I am part this fandom. This fandom will never die for me.

If you think the incest thing is bad, beware Encanto. The main characters are all related. There are mostly two varieties of those. Mirabel and her uncle Bruno or Mirabel and her cousin Camilo. (Interestingly 1st cousin marriages are legal in their native country of Colombia.)

Honestly RBTD brings back so many memories. I remember watching fan-edits and complication videos of them when I was younger along with the Core 4 (Penny, Violet, Wilbur and Hiro) and while looking at it now the concept is kinda weird, ig there’s always gonna be that sense of nostalgia that makes it memorable. Though I don’t commend the self-cest shipping-

I think one of the reasons it was created, was because all the movies came out roughly the same time, annd they were all about "humans" (and they were almost the same age), when httyd2 came out, most people shifted to adult Hiccup, and when Frozen came out, they also became part of the fandom But honestly, it was intertaining to see, because you knew the characters, people didn't have to make their own character arcs, because the viewers already knew the characters

After Httyd3, I think Hiccup has evolved past the other three.

Honestly, when I first stumbled upon the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom, I was surprised to say the least and I was baffled by some of the things fans came up with but I will commend the effort of creativity put in the stories. However, as odd as the fandom may seem at times, I'll admit I like it. I've read some fanfictions of Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons and I can say the dynamic of Hiccup, Rapunzel, Jack Frost and Merida really. The crossover of the Big Four just makes sense once you read the stories and see the art the fans come up with. I guess if DreamWorks, Pixar and Disney did make this crossover happen in a collaborated special movie or series where the Big Four cross paths and team up, even if the how or why of can't be fully explained, when you see the whole thing play out you find that the team up of Rapunzel, Jack, Hiccup and Merida just makes sense somehow. I guess the personalities of the four works so well that if they met then you can just really picture them getting along. So I find the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons crossover a really good one, although I find it a bit weird when you include Frozen into it. I have nothing against Frozen but when it's added to the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom it just feels a little off like there is nothing relatable between the Big Four and Frozen and that the only reason Frozen is included is to ship Jack and Elsa. Although it does have its moments where it does work like in an AU where they are high school friends or an AU where Jack is Elsa's twin or something like that but with other times it just feels a little out of place. Again nothing against Frozen but that's just the impression it gives me.

This fandom honestly makes me smile tbh. Its just kinda fun to see people just crossover there favorite little guys like this. Its what I love about fandom the weirdest creativity.

Nah people still remember tumblr, It gained a lot of notice in the space of twitter. Like when everyone taught twitter was gonna die and everyone started packing up to other socials like tumblr, and the sans vs reigen sexy man tournament tumblr thing which gained a lot of attention.

Crossover fandoms are wild but kind of endearing rides showing the love love-sparked creativity people have for their favorite media, I still look back at the Grim Tales fandom animations with a dorky smile for what people did with what they like. Back when I was in middle school I wrote a crossover fandom of a myriad of animes alongside my best friend. She was so dedicated she wrote RPG style stat screen displays for every character for me and her to reference when writing fights

I wasn't a part of the fandom, but I was there when it was active on Tumblr. You do have a point in that the specific nature of Tumblr allowed this crossover to gain steam when it wouldn't normally explode in popularity. One of the pieces of multimedia that Tumblr was infamous for was the animated gifset. Not only would people make animated gifs of scenes for aesthetic and recap purposes, but they would also put edits of scenes and clips together to visually depict alternate universes. Whereas old school fans would have to rely on fanfiction or fan art for a Star Trek/Star Wars crossover, Tumblr gifsets would visually communicate the idea using the media itself, especially with original captions added. This served as reinforcement, as one could literally see the characters from their respective movies interacting on the same screen. As I mentioned in my comment in the Jelsa video, it was a matter of timing, Tangled came out in 2010 and was assumed to be a one-shot, HtTYD was seemingly in limbo as a film franchise after its 2010 film, Brave was a one-shot (like most Pixar moves), and Rise of the Guardians seemed like it'd be like Dreamworks non-Shrek animared movies (Megamimd, Monsters vs Aliens) that didn't have a sequel in spite of its characters. That means you have four leads with visually complimentary colors that are just sitting there and not being utilized to the utmost capability by the rights holders. Given that all four are clearly in a "once upon a time" fairy tale setting, it would be no suprise that four teenaged leads of computer animated movies would be grouped together. Also, much like Harry Potter, Fantastic Four, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, mass media tends to like four-personality categorizations - that whole "Earth, Fire, Wind, Water" deal - and the four characrers neatly fit into those sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic archetypes. Another point to consider is that there was this certain film released in 2012 called The Avengers (Assemble) which itself was a crossover event. Before then, superhero movies were contained to their own franchises, and while Marvel built up its "cinematic universe" it's easy to forget that despite the ties between the films, Iron Man/Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America were all conceived as standalone films. Avengers may have done gangbusters, but at the time it was also a BIG risk. Even though comics fans were used to characters crossing over, it wasn't certain if the general public wanted to see Iron Man and the Hulk in the same movie. The Avengers also reivigorated the idea of crossing over different characters from different movies. As someone who has written crossovers of different franchises, I can understand. Not only is it all fiction, but you naturally want to throw all your favorite things in a blender to see if it's good or not. That's why X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Kingdom Hearts were such hits that started mega-successful franchises. Personally I look for the character interactions as well as the melding of different universes and lore. I care about that more than any activity that goes on between the sheets, but to each their own. But if you want to talk about *intense* crossovers, there's "Child of the Storm."

This whole thing when I found it was strange for me as well. Elsa and jack at least has,both are ice users and possibly immortal on Elsa side but this 4 way slap together is just incredible and insane. I like my combinations to be two maybe three if the world's are similar enough or different but don't contradict the other. Rise you could place in anything, tangle and Brave both have magic and could work but Dragons is an outlier here.

Your focus is on the NSFW content, but I barely came across any of that back in 2014-2015. This fandom grew popular around the time the avengers fandom was blowing up and people liked the idea of them being like an avengers team or just friends that hung out together. With their personalities people made it fit pretty well and Honestly this fandom was a blast to be in and has a special place in my heart.

There is this one fanfic with only Httyd and Rotg where hiccup dies in the 1st movie and becomes Pitch instead. But all he tries to do is use fear to bring toothless back to life after centuries have passed and the guardians think he’s doing it for evil, and they try to stop him. But jack realizes what he’s doing after finding out how hiccup died, and accidentally helps him with bringing back toothless. So hiccup and the other guardians stop fighting and I think there’s only 1 chapter left for the author to write. It’s really good and a small amount of chapters but there huge. It’s called: half an eternity

I came across Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons before like years ago around when HTTYD2 came out and as an 11 or 12 year old I was fascinated by it But I would say I was part of its community and I didn’t even know until now that it had a WIKI page I thought it was just fan-made art and fake movie trailers Also I think they have add other Disney and Dreamworks characters to their little world like Frozen, Tinkerbell, Bighero 6, Wreckit Ralph, The Croods, Shreak, Madagascar and others

I used to be obsessed with ROTBTG as a kid. It is actually so great to look back on it now, looking fondly at the stupid and silly little things we added to it, like Hiro from Big Hero 6, Mavis from Hotel Transylvania, and, ofc, Elsa and Anna. Nobody knows how it happened, but it kept happening and shit for it is still being made and I love it.

When i discover it, i was 14 and loved it! Just imagine thoses characters as friends made me smile. It's a cute concept! I enjoyed watching AMV of RBTD, still do it today. I'm glad people are wroting fanfics of this ship, having fun with the characters. It was a big part of my teenage years, still is 🙂🥰

LMAO, nah man Tumblr is fine and it never changes, We are good, still insane but fine. RBTD was an era I will never go back to though, I was insane at 14 and so was every other preteen. Yeah, this fandom was a real doozy, but it was created from Tumblr. And a lot of doozies are created from there, Like the Maribat fandom. And don't get my started on the ML Lila/Class/Alya/Adrien/Teachers/Etc Salt fics.

I was a part of this fandom way before it even became popular, though much like you I preferred the wholesome parts of the stories. I loved reading how each character raised each other up in difficult times or butted heads because of their differences. It made them feel real. I also liked reading the Hogwarts, and modern AU's. It was fun seeing how they could have possibly have been if they were in those fandom (much like you though the Omega AU confused me, so I dropped that one pretty quick lol) I still read some of the old books that had good plots from time to time just for old times sakes.

I usually watched the fanmade trailers, comedy sketches and other world artwork (Harry Potter mostly) I was actually invested in the weird friendships they created and I kind of wanted them to actually have some screen time together

Jack and Rapunzel were shipped together because both are; curious, likes adventure, kind and happy. Both can use magic too! I can see the princess healing Jack with her hair and him making a frost flower for her on a lake. That's cute! Both can learn something to the other; he can learn Rapunzel how to skate and make her fly, she can learn him how to paint or paly guitar. Theses two would get along, would definitely be friends 😀

TB4 has always been a mystery that no one will ever solve. Where did it start? Where did it end? How did it grow to be so big?? I remember being obsessed with this fandom in middle school but i couldn't even tell you when or where I discovered it myself. it truly is an enigma lost in time

Personally, it was my OTP. Notice i said WAS! After all these years, i really really really REALLY still LIKE IT. Maybe not as much as i did back in the early years, but still. It's a guilty pleasure. I can't help what i like.

We like to see our little "subculture" viewed from an outside perspective that isn't just straight-up bashing and cringing about everything without ever trying to understand why an appeal for such a concept exists in the first place. Thank you! Also, as a long-time member of the fandom, I was VERY shocked to hear about the p*rn and cest thing 😭 I don't think I've ever encountered any fan edit, art, or fan fic about them. Trust me, a majority of the stuff in the fandom is generally wholesome and fun (with a bit of angst and drama)... so, the whole... corn thing... represents a very very very very very very small and obscure percentage of the fandom. I mean, as far as I know, at least 😭 And I think I can speak for the rest of the fandom when I say we do think those people are kinda weird and should probably stay as obscure and as hidden as possible. But if you think about it, EVERY fandom has THOSE kinds of fans. As the old saying goes, "if it exists, there's corn of it." 🤷‍♀️ I really should've known ours won't be immune to that rule lol

Yes I am part this fandom, I ship Jelsa and Merricup as my mains, but I do have other ships. I draw and write and have been known to do some custom figures and Funkos. I love this fandom as I do with other fandoms. And I have to say, this fandom is doing in most cases better than Disney is doing right now.

My earliest memory about Tumblr was seeing Elsanna (Elsa x Anna 🤢) shippers flaming on Helsa (Hans x Elsa) shippers, which is honestly throwing stones in a glass house if you ask me.

6:20 I didn't shipp Jackunzel (I was a diehard Jarida-shipper!) but one of the reasons people shipped Jackunzel was, because Rapunzel got her powers from the sun and Jack his powers from the moon. They were also both barefooted and were cheerful and positiv and fun loving. Also, Rapunzel can keep people younger with her magic hair and people speculated that she could use it to stay forever young like Jack. Also, a lot of people shipped Mericup, because they imagined them to have a Romeo-and-Juliette-Lovestory because they both have strict Parents who don't understand them and except them for who they are and people imagined Merida's kingdom and Hiccup's tribe to be enemies. Again, I was a diehard Jarida shipper, because I liked that they were both hotheaded, rebellious, stoic and funloving. Also, I thought they were kinda like fire & ice: Clashing together.

I first stumbled across The Rise of The Brave Tangle Dragon universe back when I was in High School and Thought it was interesting seein Jack Frost(Dreamwork Rise of the Guardians),Merida(Pixar Brave),Rapunzel(Disney Tangled) and Hiccup(How to your Dragon) crossover together! There was ton of fanArt,Au,MoviesTrailers and movies like Wreck It Ralph,Tintin,Lorax,Big Hero 6 and Au like Legend of Zelda,Super Mario,SAO,Kingdom Hearts and Marvel MCU Avengers!

not even gonna lie, and this may be very hard to understand for someone who doesn't read fanfic, but you kinda just learn not to judge. people have the weirdest, most out there, and strangest interests, that may unnerve some, but at the end of the day its just for fun and entertainment, and is RARELY a reflection of the individuals themselves. Personally i love the fanfiction (mainly ao3) community, its filled with amazing and passionate people and is a place where people can share their love for fandoms and characters in a largely judgement free, and enthusiastic environment. if the world were a little more like this community, i think it would be for the better, where people like what they like, you respect what others like (even if its not for you) , and in turn they respect your interests too :)

Can you mak a video about why the hell so many people cross over Miraculous and Batman? It's so universal, but I just don't get why it exists. It's so popular that it even has a name: Maribat. And most of the fics I've read are so mean to every single Miraculous character except Marinette. Alya's a fake friend and a bully, who sides with Lila and even sometimes physically harms Marinette in her bullying. Adrien is a stalker/creep who isn't worthy of the Black Cat Miraculous and sometimes goes feral. The entire class starts bullying and victim-blaming Marinette at the behest of Lila. Even Marinette's parents are sometimes shown as being terrible and borderline abusive. I don't get why these people seem to think every character in MLB is an asshole except Marinette, who is an innocent angel/badass guardian.

Never was a part of it, but definitely stumbled over this fandom back in 2014-2015, I watched another video about this and agreed with their take in saying: they are all teenagers, they all fit the beauty standards, they all are white, and the protagonist. They dont have other teenagers to hang out with in their own movies, except hiccup, but his friends aren't all on the beauty standard, kids back in the day just started to see them as a blank canvas to put their own thoughts and stories into them. And at the time they were the most recent famous animated movies out there, in the end it just worked and people like it and its all that matters

I didn't have wifi or a laptop until I was 12 back in 2008, and if you're a child you don't need to be on the internet. So like on the topic of incest ships becomming popular: I think a major part of why, is the sexualisation of family members of the main character (most common in anime), where the watcher ends up with a character they identify with and a character they find hot, basically I think incest ships are more often (or at least used to) a self-ship than and incest ship, lowering the barrier of making it. Kind of a funny side effect if you ask me.

Best way I can explain the hogswarts au thing is it happens in every fanbase they do it to see whether fanon wise or canon wise some of the characters would react (based on how they write them) it's more so for seeing how far they can push like Owl house despite having its own thing theirs been hogwarts fanart. Though omegaverse the knowledge I know it started with the super natural fanbase your gonna have to take it up with them-

I've not ever heard of this till now, but I can see it or all these characters sharing the same planet. That actually makes allot of sense to my logical mind. You would just have the Jack Frost character existing in its future with the Tangled and Frozen Characters existing in their 18th century and the Brave and HTTAD characters fitting back in the high medieval timeframe of this mythical world. Sounds a like a fascinating planet to live on.

Yall say what you will, but the Big Four x Hogwarts AU was the BANE of my middle school existence. I loved the idea of them all being best friends at Hogwarts.

When I was a newbie in the world of the internet and RU-vid, I merely watch any Disney and DreamWorks fan video that I would see and click. Until eventually I stumbled upon the Crossover videos of Disney/DreamWorks and was indeed fascinated by how people would video edit them into stories and random ships that I didn't know was possible. Then eventually I stumbled up a video, I don't really remember if it was a Mericcup or a Jackunzel video but either way I saw them and a spark was born, and I wanted to know more about these ships. Then eventually I found the RotBTD and I completely fell in love with the idea of these four characters being in the same world/universe and how they grow as a group and form a unique, strong bond of trust and friendship through whatever AU we the fans can come up with. And I am a hardcore down to the bone 💕Mericcup and Jackunzel shipper💕 And I will ship them till the day that I die🏳 Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy reading fanfics of the Big 4 as just friends and being with their canon paring, aside from Merida who is single. But I am a sucker whenever I find any fan art/fanfic with my favorite ship.

oh, as a jackunzel shipper, i hated jelsa and frozen's inclusion to rotbtd. it's probably the reason why the fandom slowly faded into obscurity. i was part of the fandom during its early to peak days on tumblr (even contributed some funny gif mash ups here and there), and i've really loved the analyses, theories, headcanons, and fanfics from it. from my pov, rotbtd started because tumblr is divided into several "genres" or fandom umbrellas. the four big fandoms were the anime fans, the kpop fans, the superwholocks, and the animation (or disney/pixar) fans. if you love animation, most likely you'll come across a lot of blogs dedicated to disney/pixar films. around tumblr's peak of popularity, Rise of the Guardians was released which became incredibly popular on the site because Jack was like, really handsome. eventually he gets tagged along with Hiccup and they were named the Dreamwork's Princes in contrast to Disney's Princess. then, Jackunzel became a popular ship because of the sun/moon, spring/winter parallels, and also because Rapunzel was the most recent 3D character, so it became the animation Golden Trio with Hiccup, Jack, and Rapunzel. and then Brave got released and a lot of animation fans really loved that movie and Merida, so naturally she got tangled (lol) with the Golden Trio. they soon become the Big 4 (or Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons). and that's really how the rotbtd started. it's really just fans coming together liking and sharing their interests and having fun. and it should have stayed that way if it wasn't for the apocalypse that was Frozen.
