Rite Aid in Compton takes extreme steps to prevent theft

Shoplifting has become so bad at one Rite Aid store in Southern California that nearly all products have been locked in glass barricades.
It’s not unusual for customers at stores like Walgreens, Walmart or Target to have to call for assistance to get some of the higher-value items out of a locked case, but a Rite Aid in Compton has taken the practice to another level.
KTLA's Rachel Menitoff reports on September 19, 2024.

It's evident of the behavior of the community members. So sad. I remember hearing this city and the surrounding areas complained about racial disparity with LAPD saying police were targeting certain people. If you behave or drive a certain way............. you're going to get stopped. Driving through these areas on the fwys one can experience driving on the sides of the "emergency" lanes, swirving, no signals when moving lanes, it's like 75% more changes of witnessesing this in these areas.

Agree. I think nothing at the store level will work. Locking things up will only cause smash and grab, or worse yet a store worker being mugged for the keys to the locked shelves etc.

I am just glad that the stores are still around for me to shop if I need them. I rather they bottle up and protect the items than pack up and leave. Truly are society needs to turn back to God to resolve this. Just laws alone will not fix a lack of integrity with shop lifting. People who have a relationship with God will not want to shoplift period.

Why not have a hybrid system? Part vending machine part customer service. This way some of the items can still be purchased without the additional assistance at the same time still "secured".
