I loved the comparison with the other foundations and trying it with different applications! I LOVE the wet look bc I’m so dry no matter how much I prep with skincare, foundations(even the tiniest amount) always looks cakey on me 😩 this might have sold me on the rdf!

I also feel like this with 99.9% of foundations bc my skins so horrifically dry but I recently found the Centellian madeca cream and it’s a foundation saver 🙌🏼 it’s such a rich, almost greasy, hydrating moisturizer that I can use it as a primer and get away with even some satin matte foundations 🤯

First off, this is one of the best foundation review videos I've ever seen! I liked the original formula better than what I can see of the new one. I love to glow, don't get me wrong, but it looked like the new formula really emphasized texture with the glow, and while I want to glow, I need blur vs. heightened texture. Second, and I apologize if I've missed this in your content, have you tried the Beautyblender Bounce Skin Tint? It's glowy and long wear and I'm totally in love with it. Looking at you in the Surrat, that really piques my interest. Like you, I bought the original 3 drop foundation. I did not like the packaging for it at all, especially at the price point. I needed more than 3 drops to cover my entire face with the original formula, but I liked the results overall. Glad to see that they've expanded the shade range.

Thank you!! And it sounds like we like very similar formulas! And I do think if it looked this glowy but didn't enhance texture I think I would've been into it a bit more, I just didn't like the way my pores looked with it! I haven't tried the beauty blender skin tint yet! It's actually on my short list to try. I really like their regular foundation too so I may have to give that a try when I use up my lab sample! lol. The surratt is my favorite foundation! I have a long video review of that on my channel too!

Ooooo I have also been very curious about the beauty blender skin tint, almost purchased it several times, and have similar desires for my complexion😅. I've heard some really good things about the formula from such a wide variety of skin types. I would be so curious to know how it would lay on my skin for a long, hot, sweaty/humid day. I wonder if I could sus out a sample. Not for the 1st time, i wish a program existed for sharing a bottle of foundation with a skin twin🤔

@@hautemesstom I will go look for your Surrat review! I loved how it looked on your skin. And yes, it does sound like we enjoy similar formulas! I lean towards light to light-medium coverage that blurs or glows and doesn't emphasize pores or fine lines. I have dry sensitive skin with rosacea, but my skin is in great shape these days to my skin care routine. I think you might love the Beautyblender! I wish I hadn't agonized over buying it for so long.

Yeah, I'm so glad I did the side by side comparisons myself because I really thought I liked it and then seeing it up against all of my favorites I was like "oh wait this is way way too much for me" and it's not like it was the worst foundation in the end, it just was definitely not a product designed for me and my desires!

As a dry desert face, I was all over this foundation. My order is on the way. My favorite foundation is Kosas Tinted Oil. The only thing I didn’t like was the very light coverage. They are discontinuing it. So seeing a new truly oil based foundation that actually has coverage. Yep. Sign me up.

Thank you for blessing us with a feature length film on a Monday, and doing so many comparisons. I hope you have less to do this week. 😭💖 I’m also oily, but probably not as oily as you, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I’ve been mostly using it over Creature of Light, but I also like it over DMB’s Balm Powder. Similar to you, I also prefer around 2 drops on my face, I just don’t feel like I need the third. I didn’t try the original, so, I have no idea if I would have liked that more. With your long established preferences, it makes sense that this didn’t work out for you. Also, I noticed over the last year or so that RdF has like… entirely stopped using the word “clean” on their IG/website/packaging. Credo/Ulta still use it when categorizing the brand, but RdF has seemingly stepped away from the term. Which is interesting! Edit - They actually reached out to clarify and let me know that they never categorized their brand as clean! It’s just some of the retailers that carry them categorize them as that because of the nature of how they formulate stuff, and I must have been remembering wrong because of that! Either way - I appreciate that they’ve always just focused on their formulas and writing/imagery instead of pushing “clean” a bunch.

Thank you for putting SO much effort into this review! I've made my feelings known to you about the formula change already, but even in a couple days my opinion about the original Lab Sample formula is different. I don't enjoy the Lab Sample as much as I did when I first tried it last year, and, honestly, that's because I was forcing myself into liking it more than I should've. (I did have a lot to say in my survey, tho.) That said, here we go: I applied the Lab Sample the other day, and it clung to every possible texture on my face. Pores, peach fuzz, dry patches, everything. Three drops IS too much! At distance, the old foundation looks okay, but close-up...OOOF. Settles into my finest lines. I do still appreciate that the old Lab Sample is easy to pat back out with my fingertips when things go wonky. (Fellow oily skinned person here: I generally don't use oil-based primers, with the exception of Merit, or primer at all because I feel like my foundation is gonna slide all over town.) Anyway, except for the welcome expanded shade range, the addition of some fancy-schmancy active, and the removal of (most?) fragrance, RdF hasn't made this stuff much better than it was in 2022. LOVED the side-by-side comparisons, btw. The Prism Libre concealer is currently occupying space in my Sephora list. Love you, byeeeeee!

So interesting that you now feel differently about the old formula! I’m not going to lie I think mine is about to go off completely the formula is getting pretty thick. The givenchy concealer truly is lovely so not a bad choice!

In addition, after seeing the lovely Tom apply this to their face and side-by-side against all of their other foundations (many of which I am coveting), I am going to take a pass on this. My mid-40s self does not need any “texture enhancing” products on my skin.

I love your foundation reviews, and the comparisons to the formulas in your collection. Even the reviews for foundations I’m not interested in for myself. There is so much to be said for taking the time to experiment and play and get to know the formulas and really learn what one’s preferences are. We are almost skin twins, I’m probably at least a half shade lighter depending on the season, and I have very similar coverage preferences to you and Kackie. If it crosses your path, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the new Saie foundation. I love it, State of Kait hated it, and that seems to be the consensus from reviews I’ve seen. Love or hate.

Thanks so much for doing the laborious & oh so enlightening half face comparison with various products. I hope your left side isn't too irritated. I love the Thorn Oil & Milk (a favorite for freshening up during the day) . I just got the Dew Drops on sale (half off!) at my local pharmacy that stopped carrying the brand and I agree with you about the packaging & the product. I like RdF Solaris but my skin eats the cream colors within an hour or so (except for the online only grey color that works well as a contour- that one sticks around for 5 or 6 hours). Really great work!

Great review! I want to say my skin doesn’t ‘like’ most foundations /tints etc. used to be all the spf foundations made me break out and in reality I would never change foundation until I couldn’t get a foundation that worked for me and only then I’d change. To me it looks amazing with the VB primer, although it seems to look brighter and paler. I wonder if the whole RdF vibe is very goth and kind of reflects light to give you that ethereal witchy vamp vibe. April 27th was a wreck for me as well, I feel you.

Such a beautiful, thoughtful, thorough review. I have the lab sample. She’s not for me. I need more coverage. Maybe I’ll sell it. This new one is more up my alley, but I think I’ll pass on it. Synchro skin is my jam. That’s what I want and love in a foundation. And I am pretty sure it’s being discontinued. Which is my luck. Gonna have to try the radiant version of it. I also want to put on my foundation and do my makeup, and then not have to worry about powdering before I am seen by humanity - Toting around a compact and a brush is just too much for me at times 😂 ❤❤❤❤

So I do think that the MERIT is probably the best easily available clean (at least by Sephora's standards, I really don't pay too much attention to it myself). However, I do think it has a bit of a learning curve but I enjoy the finish! The Rose Inc Skin tint is also really lovely but it has a much more dewy finish and it's coverage is pretty light but I like the way it looks on my skin too!

Thanks for your review on this new foundation, I had no clue RDF was releasing a new foundation. This might be like the Saie foundation which I haven’t tried. I’m in the UK so I can’t buy samples of the RDF anyway but it’s way too shiny for my liking, I don’t like any oil in my foundations as I have mature combo oily skin and I still produce a lot of oil in my T zone even if I’m old 😂

Oh I would definitely say imo this wouldn’t be worth shipping internationally especially if the look of it isn’t your taste haha. I also thought of the Saie foundation while testing this. I haven’t tried it either which is why I avoided comparing!

Thanks for this video. It’s awesome and you are gorgeous. This release gives me some feels and they are not really good ones. I like the smell of the lab sample (I know, I know 😂) and most importantly… I really don’t want more coverage from my foundations. 😢 Thankfully, I still have a lot of my lab sample left because I go in so lightly with it. I have to say… I’d be dramatically devastated if we hadn’t discovered the Rose Inc serum foundation. I love a glowy base but I can always use my Supergoop Glowscreen as my sunscreen to make any base glowy… or the creature of light.

Listen, the smell wasn't enough to deter me from keeping it around in my collection after all this time! lol And I agree the rose inc serum is definitely closer to the lab sample than the new one. it would be what I would recommend to those who loved that original formula!

I didn’t mind the smell of the lab one either. It is, what it is. I’d rather smell like a hippie than a grannie anyway. I think we have different shades of the lab version, but you are always welcome to mine if you need it. And people with fantastic skin like you, can get away with the lab sample coverage. Not me. I've been waiting with bated breath for this release and *your* review! Now -- off to watch... Edit: Back from watching, great review. This looks to be right up my alley, as I'm a mature/dry skin and I prefer dewy. I can always use a touch of powder or blotting paper if need be. (I thought at the end in your final thoughts it looked great on you with the powder.) What topper do have on here -- is it that 'Crystal Fantasy'? (? Forgot the name.) And yes -- the comparison section of your other foundations side by side was *very* enlightening. Thank you!

I'm glad you were able to get what you needed from the review! Because I really think that this will be lovely for people who have the needs that you do! And I agree it looks nice with powder but it also just breaks through my powder a lot faster than my other foundations. I have the Makeup By Mario ethereal eyes on my eyes today, it's one of the shadows in there.

the new formula looks kinda like the old Kosas tinted face oil formula- just way too much shine and no blur. Pity was looking forward to trying it based off the first version but this looks like it is not for someone with oily skin

Omg that is a good comparison! I tried the kosas a few times when I worked at Sephora! Maybe a good alternative to those who miss that formula!
