The check back saved u money. Bart leaning towards 88 was on point because who really is going to barrel out on the river when they appeared weak earlier in a lower stakes game

(His use of the word "actually" suggests an awareness of his sub-optimal play & his use of "maybe" demonstrates his disorientation in this particular spot as well as a problem with concepts. Not making fun of caller - good call & awareness is key).

if we lead the flop with bottom set here, what types of hands do we lead with that are bluffs/semi-bluffs? do we lead AQ? or is our range very strong/only semi-bluffs
@TylerWx
@TylerWx 4 года назад
On the flop the pre-flop raiser checked to us. Seems like clear bluff hands would be like JTs with a backdoor flush draw and a gutter or definitely 9Ts which is a double gutter (hopefully with BDFD too). I think it's got to be correct to bet with AQ once UTG checks to us. Actually can probably bet most Qs if we bet on the smaller side. Depends on how you want to construct and what your pre-flop strategy is (like how wide are you flat calling or 3betting pre). I guess.

I was literally thinking about how 5-7 suited was 100% likely on the river. All combos are available, aggressive players love suited connectors and suited gappers after check calling the flop then making the nuts it makes sense to check the turn as well. Check call lead is often a weird line. Nothing about this hand for 1-3 or 2-5 doesn’t make sense to me.

Max Piplat I literally played at jumal for 5 days straight 2 weeks ago and people were opening 22 7-4 suited JToff . I’m not saying I open those hands but in low stakes many people do.

If a K or A on the turn, checking back to rep a Qx, but it was a 4, so I would make a bet on the turn. Check on the river if he check

66 is a trash hand to call an UTG bet with as UTG+1. Even if u have the UTG pegged as loose, you think ur the only one at the table that has identified them? If he's opening with shit like 57s, hero can expect other players to correctly 3 bet him super wide, leaving hero vulnerable to squeezes. Just fold! Even 3 betting would be better actually(not better than folding), anything but just calling.

Jamming this river 100% definitely overkill. I’m calling this river more than I am jamming, Vs line isn’t consistent with how the overwhelming majority play their overpairs and also is he really overbetting his Qx that check flop? I don’t think so. I don’t even think this river size is polarising because I don’t think he has any bluffs so to me it’s always value. And given that I would discount his value bets that we beat (most of the time) it’s a call for me
@FefeLeVrai
@FefeLeVrai 4 года назад
I would just call this river as well, because the line by villain was incredibly suspicious. He checked then cold called a bet and a raise on the flop. Definitely not looking like a top pair kind of hand since those are pretty much always cbet, could be either a draw (since many recreational players don't bet their draws but check-call any bet with them), or an overset (again, recs love slowplaying especially when it makes no sense). This makes the river very polarized, especially seeing the overbet sizing, so no value to gain by raising.
@joshuahakakian1553

Same. I think the only hands that bet this way in the river are 9T and 57
@FefeLeVrai
@FefeLeVrai 4 года назад
79 too. Can also have Q8 for flopped 2 pair. But even with Q8 which could call a river raise, there's more combinations of hands that beat you than of Q8 so raising river looks really EV-.

Our flop check-raise looks stronger than if we just bet the flop. One of the villains might release a queen to the turn shell given this action. Why would we check the turn? Missed value.

I don't even agree with Bart's hypothetical that if villain only had $135 remaining that it is ALWAYS 100% a bet-call by villain if hero shoves. In my opinion, villain can definitely be overbet bluffing with busted straight draws like T9s that would have called $100 on flop, check-check turn, and then blasted river at perceived weakness based on turn checking through.

Is this 6-handed, 7 or 9?? I have no idea why we ignored 57suited as a hand we lose to. I assume because this hand "shouldn't " be raising UTG, but the 3-bet frequency is so low in some of these low stakes games it happens and it might not be so terrible. This is then played by the villain in such a typical draw fashion on the flop on a board with only 2 draws, 57, and 97 that's it. Obviously I'm not saying he definitely has 1 of those but it has to be taken into consideration. I think a good range is 57s, 97s, random Qx garbage and horrendously played 99-JJ at a low frequency and weirdly played KK and AA at a low frequency, stupid gutshots at a low frequency. Most of these will fold to a shove, and I think a lot of Qx finds a fold too. This is a strange lead from Qx too. Maybe AA and KK call off , but I really hate shoving the 66 on the river. Note: I know I'm not the greatest poker player in the universe and I might have some errors in logic, curious what others think. I very rarely find myself disagreeing with Bart in these videos.

The key here is that the Hero already deemed him as a possible loose aggressive player (unconfirmed) so 75s, while not being necessarily a correct open from UTG, could easily be in their range as well. If the player was very tight then it would almost always be excluded.

I keep going back and forth on this. If villain is a tight player, we can discount UTG opens with 57. So the only hands that beat us are QQ and 88. But what worse hands can call us? If we think some AA and KK then we can probably justify a river raise. It’s possible our river raise looks like a bluff with a missed draw like 9T or 97 (which makes sense with our turn check) in which case maybe we even get some hero calls with AQ. It’s just that surely those hands almost always c-bet the flop? If UTG is loose (as is the case) then we also lose to 57s. But could he show up with 86s? I guess that’s only two additional combos.
