This was written by Steven Moffat, who also wrote the "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" (with the gas mask kid) in S1, "The Girl in the Fireplace" S2, and "Blink" (Weeping Angels) S3. Honestly one of my favorite episodes of the whole show. The Vashta Nerada are awesome (both the moving shadows and the skeleton-in-a-suit). River Song is awesome. So much good stuff.
@JayPerView The 9th and 10th Doctors had Russel T. Davies, as the showrunner The 11th and 12th Doctors had Steven Moffat as the showrunner 13 had Chris Chibnall 14 has/will have Russel T. Davies again (Showrunner: the person who has overall creative authority and management responsibility for a television program.)
@@jeckjeck3119 I believe RTD chose Moffat as his successor, Moffat chose Chibnall, and the BBC chose RTD again because they weren't going to give Chibnall the power to choose his successor
"every shadow?" "No...but any shadow" that line always creeps me right out. This episode (and the next) are definite standouts for the series. Brilliance.
I would Ike to finally introduce you to the best reoccurring character in tv history…. In my opinion in tv history not just Dr Who!!!! Welcome to the awesomeness that is River Song!!!!
Agreed! The way they introduced her as someone who already knows him is genius, and her acting is spot on. Her expression when he asks who she is never fails to get me.
River song has one of the BEST (if not the best) story arcs in all of doctor who, the continuity of her character through all the seasons she’s in is incredible!!!
So, you have finally reached the River Song two parter!! I've been waiting for this one! As for the Vashda Nerada, they are indeed quite terrifying. There have been a few Big Finish Audio series, which have spotlighted some of the past encounters earlier versions of the DOctor had with them. They are just the creepiest!!
Me too. I get excited for certain episodes just to see how he'll react. We're into absolute PEAK territory right now and can't wait. I'm also looking forward to how he'll react to the next doctor and companion. I've watched a few reaction channels but very few are this genuine and invested.
this and his reaction to Martha gives me hope that he will be a lot kinder to some characters who the fandom hate unnecessarily (in my opinion and i'm not going to say who cause spoilers but if you are in fanspaces you should have an idea of who i'm talking about), Martha is a lot more favoured now i don't think she was ever Hated but i remember back around her first series people didn't like her cause they thought she was replacing Rose
@@UserName-vb4lg She nailed it. She was stepping into such a huge role considering who she ends up as in the show, and this was such a good introduction. Love her so much.
Oh, this is the two parter I've been waiting for you to get to. River Song is such a cool character! I need to see how you react to part two The heartbreak is real!
This series is still my favourite of modern dr who, I love pretty much all the episodes especially this two parter and the final four episodes. Donna is still my favourite of the modern companions and even a top pick from all the companions both classic or modern.
It's hard for me to ignore that Josh Dallas is in one of the interface... Josh Dallas is awesome especially in Once Upon A Time. The fact that rewatching it, make me suprised on who that is~
This episode has always creeped me out because I had a serious fear of the dark as a kid and it just brought all that back up in my head. And the more you see River, the more you love her, it's just a fact of life. Pay attention to an interaction she has with the Doctor next episode - it's important!
I cannot explain how happy these reactions make me. It's such a joyous thing to see someone experience Doctor Who for the first time and I love that you're enjoying it as much as I do :)
As a guest writer, Moffat knocks out some of the best stories in the "NuWho" era. He also demonstrates how the strong the show is when it leans into sci-fi/horror. "Midnight", which will occur later in this season is on par with Moffat's stories. It's like Russel T. Davies wanted to show he could match Moffat and in turn creates "Midnight".
Ahhh yes one of the best and scariest episodes of the show. I do not recommend watching it at night 😂 The next two episodes are just as creepy and amazing so have fun ❤
Yeah, River Song is really good character in the Doctor Who's universe! She was great. Can you tell what song you used in the very beginning (intro music) ?
love that you're enjoying this show. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you react to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy is my absolute favourite show and a masterpiece in acting and writing. It's my fave show, followed by Dr Who :)
Duuuuude watch faster haha I love seeing people react to Doctor Who. The adventures & stories & battles & monsters. Through time and Space. Watch them run.
I've been watching a lot of Doctor Who reactions lately and by far, yours are the best! ❤ I love that you're very expressive and not stoned face like many others. 😂 I really enjoy the way you summarize your recap too. Some people tend to say too little or they take forever to talk about every little detail, making it longer than the actual reaction. 🥱🤣 Silence in The Library and Forest of The Dead are my favorite David Tennant episodes. ❤ But I'm thrilled you're finally into the Matt Smith era.
This one gives me nightmares even years later. Every time I hear anyone say "Hey who turned out the lights?" I shudder. And you won't believe how many times people say that. Agh!
This episode and the next one, Forest of the Dead, are my favorite episodes. You might be interested to know that Euros Lyn who directed these episodes also directed Heartstopper.
i met alex kingston at a convention in fifth grade and she was gonna sign a book i had but u had to write what u wanted them to sign beforehand and i wrote hello sweaty.
This is one of my favourite episodes ever because it's soo scary and it's about books (As an English lit student it's gotta be). BUT also because I live about 10 minutes away from where all of this is filmed. The main area of the library where they all end up the round-looking room at 8:04 which was filmed in Swansea Library before it moved locations. And the area with the steps and the balcony overlooking the library at 2:24 is filmed in the Brangwyn Hall Swansea. BEAUTIFUL building. Swansea has been used a lot for the filming of doctor who but this one is my favourite. As well as maybe the hospital reception in smith and jones which was filmed at my university (Swansea uni).
Seeing how crushed River is when she realises that The Doctor doesn't recognise her is such a powerful moment when watching back after seeing future episodes. An excellent performance from Alex Kingston. Also Catherine Tate is amazing in this episode. It was weird seeing her pull out some serious dramatic chops after being familiar with her for her comedy work before joining Who
I've been watching doctor who for so long by myself as not a lot of people in my life like sci fi like I do, and I'm so glad I found your channel! I feel like I get to watch a friend enjoy my favorite show it's really nice :) Can't wait to see you react to more of my fav episodes! This is for sure one of my favorites!
You’re gonna love River. I actually got to see her in a production of One Flew Over the Coo-coos nest along with Christian Slater in London. It was my dream trip since I was 12. I’m not normally flying off to other countries.
Thank's for a brilliant reaction to what've become one of my favourite stories ever. Doctor Who is so good on making totally normal thing, like shadows (and statues) very scary. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Alex Kingston as River Song is my favorite side character of all time. The combination of the writing of her character and Alex's acting are just great.
Love your reactions but this episode is so important and will make so much sense eventually I’m excited for you to get to watch it for the first time ❤
One of my favourite things about this amazing episode is how it changes over years of watching the later seasons. Seemingly minor lines at first watching come to mean so much more when rewatching it after watching episodes from later in the series.
Love this two parter. As a matter of interest the 2nd face that appeared in the library to the doctor and Donna (the male face) also plays prince charming in once upon a time !
