I was just giving an example of weight because we had a Model Y at one point. It's not a comparison since we're only looking at the R1S weight and your garage.
rivian has bigger problems than being very heavy... Why would anyone buy an R1S for $90k, when the R-2 is coming out for only $45k? The R-2 is similar to the R1S; just a bit smaller. R-2 will cannibalize sales of the existing R1S. Since Rivian is losing $107.4k on its R1S model, expect Rivian's losses to only slightly moderate if and when it starts selling its R2 model. Between $107.4k losse per vehicle and sales about to dry up in anticipation of the R-2 model, look out for upcoming Rivian bankruptcy
The R1S is priced about what it should be for that size SUV compared to ICE comparables. SUVs aren't cheap. The R2 is not even close to the same size. That's like saying the Model Y is "a little" smaller than the R1S. There's no comparison. R1S is a totally different car that's way bigger and for a different group of people. The R2 is the crossover that everyone wants, just like the Y. It's the direct competitor and basically the same size. But also more capable than the Y for that group of people who are outdoorsy. This is Rivian's brand and who they are appealing to. Since this car is way more affordable, supply chain costs will go down and hopefully next year they will be profitable. They aren't going bankrupt. This is a pretty FUD statement TBH. Even if that were on the horizon, there's companies out there who would buy them for their tech anyway. One would be Amazon since they have a good size stake in the company as is.
