Thank you Matthew for the video. I’m loving the colours. You read my mind because I was planning of making my third jelly roll rug and I was planning of cutting the batting smaller. I’ve washed my first rug and dry it flat and it turned out just fine. I didn’t even have to iron my rug.

I finished mine today. When I ironed mine I kept adding some and it helped stay in line. I used a wider zig zag stich but, I did use more thread. I love the idea of fusible batting will do that on my next one. Love your hints and videos.

I used the tube from the batting then rolled up the fabric and batting together, placed the roll on the back left (right would've been a lot better) leg of my extender table, it worked beautifully. I washed the rug in warm water and dried completely flat after smoothing it out, even areas that were a little wobbly, straightened right out, no need to iron

Genius!! You could also use a papertowel holder for the "tube" by leaving the empty cardboard thingy from the papertowels on the papertowel holder and use tape the same way you did and roll that bad boy up!! It will automatically unroll when you pull on it, like a lazy suzan, and most ppl have one!! Yay for tips and tricks!! Thanks!!

Your rug is beautiful! I’m giving mine a break from my screaming at it. I did use my own batting and realized that a 2 1/4 inch batting worked much better. I’ll have to try the fusible batting that I have. Thanks for the tips! Debbie L.

Hello Mr.D I’m back to say hello and to tell you your part two tips are what I was going to post . I came across your channel a few weeks ago . What positive words of wisdom in needle and thread , I had already started 2 EPP quilts as present for family ... now two jellyroll rugs made once was taken by my daughter and the others I will finish on the weekend , your my Julia Child’s of crafting. Every year I choose a new skill to master . Cake making, knitting ,crocheting, Amis toothbrush knot rugs , the list is endless . But I want to thank you for the smile you put on my face . Weekends are for quilting and weekday I get my EPP fix ... yes it may seam a lot but I’ve always had two things on the go , it suits my OCD as my daughter tells me ... have a fabulous weekend . I’m looking forward to your next project... keep smiling ! 🤗

@CJG1419
@CJG1419 5 лет назад
Never considered integrating duct tape into my sewing but am considering it now😂. I also wondered if cutting the batting to only fit down the center so as not to have batting in the folded side would be easier to sew? Granted, the rug probably wouldn’t be as cushy. Cutting it slightly narrower sounds like it worked. Also if you are so inclined could you experiment with cutting the fabric on the bias? AND maybe making a round one? (Yes I am lazy so that’s why I am asking you to do this stuff) Beeyooteefull rug btw.

I just purchased the pattern. How does it wash? Did you try and wash one yet?
@maybee...
@maybee... 5 лет назад
Hello Mr. Domestic, I won't purchase the precut batting again, I found it to be uneven - cut wider on one side where it was actually wider than the jelly roll and narrower on the opposite side, also I agree with cutting your own at a narrower strip than the standard 2.5", it was convenient to have one long strip of batting rather than many shorter strips. I found it hard to keep the rug flat even with constant ironing. Still I like these rugs and will continue to make them.

I just saw in a little video from Alex Anderson on the Quilt Show that there is a new powdered adhesive that you sprinkle on a little bit, iron and fuse! Wouldn't that be great for the roll of batting! It's made by Quilters Select, I think!
@deborahfitzer6877
@deborahfitzer6877 5 лет назад
It's called Free Fuse and a bit pricey ($19.99) but she says it will do a full size quilt. But no fumes....whoo hoo! BTW, can't wait for your new collection! Loving the colors!

Don't understand why 2.25" is working better than 2.5". I would think that the 2.5 is going to make a nice cushy rug. Mine is in a ball right now.

The batting rolls in Australia for Jelly Roll rugs are just 2" wide (5cm) and so much easier to sew with. However, I will never make another one. The process it too repetitive and boring - no creativity involved (and the pattern is terrible - needs to be completely rewritten so it's makes sense).
