Road Rash (1994-1995 PC) on Steam Deck I SteamOS 3.4 I 4K 60FPS Handcam Gameplay (Retro Game) 

Could you please tell me how you got this game running on the deck....I've spent a whole day trying to get it to work, but no success! Please! I appreciate it!

Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. The 4K label is a little bit misleading to some. Most of the games don’t run in 4K. The gameplay i’m recording IS captured externally with a 4K upscale and upload in order to retain as clean a image as possible.

@@zerocore_ oh I see, so on average, what sort of settings do you aim for in your gameplay? Do you go for battery-efficiency, performance, or graphical quality?

@@MediumSmoke settings will depend a lot on the game, but I typically prefer performance over battery life. I aim to run most games at at least 60fps, which is usually doable for all but the newest games. With older titles (pre-2012) I almost always try to run the game at double the refresh rate of the Steam Deck. This can eat the battery life much faster, but it also makes the game feel MUCH smoother. For example: in my L4D2 video I’m actually running the game at a locked 120fps, even though the display of the SD is only 60hz. At 120fps the game logic also refreshes 2x faster and as a result the game feels WAY more responsive, especially the gyro controls. It allows me to aim way faster and way more precise than running at a locked 60fps.

Hey there! I used this version of the game: oldgamesdownload.com/road-rash/ There are two downloads at the bottom of the page. Download and unzip them both. the one that weighs 27mb has the installer and contains the base game. Run it through lutris to install. Also enable DgVoodoo. The game should work now, but lacks any of the videos and in-game music. You can fix the videos by copying the contents of the 380mb download into the Road Rash game directory. The in-game music needs a midi synth player on the Steam Deck in order to play. I downloaded Qsynth from the discovery app. It needs to be running and requires a sound font to work. i made mine sound like a SEGA Genesis, but you can find a more generic one here: www.philscomputerlab.com/general-midi-and-soundfonts.html You can get this to work in Game Mode by adding both the Road Rash exe and Qsynth as seperate games to steam. In Game Mode first launch Qsynth, then without quiting go back to your Steam Library and start Road Rash. Now everything should be up and running properly.

@@zerocore_ When you say "Run it through lutris", do you have to do it via Wine? The game doesn't load when I open the exe file with lutris. Please help, greatly appreciate it!

Could you please help explain what you did to get it running on the deck? When I tried, it said "could not find CD ROM"

Windows 10/11 installation is weird. You'll need to get the CD (or ISO) mounted and then copy the files over to your computer. Then, search up any local NOCD crack and copy it into the "Data" folder. It should work but there may be a "Setup Required" error that occurs. In that instance you can look for the Demo copy of Road Rash and use its data files and executable to launch the Demo. Once the Demo is installed, copy the main CD files over the Demo one.
