I grew up in the mountains of Felton, running around with my camera through the hills chasing the Tuolumne, Sonora and Dixiana. I always wanted to hear that fabled sound of the Tuolumne’s original whistle, and now I can. Amazing work, as usual!
That's the sound I grew up hearing...amazing how sounds can activate our memories. Henry Cowell was where we'd go for lots of our family outings and the sound of that whistle coming through the redwoods is a special memory. Live far away now, but this brought it all back - thank you!
Once again, an excellent repair! Roaring Camp is only a few miles from the Glenwood Cutoff where my friends the Holmes Brothers built there 5" scale 15" gage Glenwood South Park & Pacific. Ironically the GSP&P is now just a memory.
I only heard this whistle once as a kid, back in 1999. I was three at the time, so I referred to Tuolumne as the "Moose Train" (she was pulling the other train that day, Dixiana was our power). When I next rode the narrow-gauge, it was in 2004, and Dixiana had broken down on the switchback. Passengers had to hike down to be picked up by the Beach Train, while Tuolumne was quickly fired up and took over. That was not only my first (and to date, only) ride behind Tuolumne, it was my first time hearing her Crosby 3-Chime.
you all probably dont give a damn but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my login password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Kobe Shepard I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Last time I heard it, it sounded awful, but it sounded so bad because it was worn out. Now it sounds amazing!!! I maybe more attached to the Crosby 3-chime, but I’m glad the old hooter has been restored and now sounds better than ever :)
I've been digging for hours and had no luck so I'm gonna leave my question here to see if anyone knows. What whistle does one of their shays Dixianna use? Don't know a lot about whistles so sorry for the dumb question.
