Mixing up ‘vociferously’ and ‘voraciously’, maybe a humanities degree would have helped that. Also, I’m gay.

So many people would benefit from higher history education. Educators of course. But also policy makers. Government administration from land management to social services. Finance. For sure finance. Probably 75% of all education should be immediately practical as it helps achieve our immediate goals. But a social science guides those goals into the infinite. Preserving freedom and democracy while constantly at global war seeking global economic domination for a few multinationals owned by private individuals or a bunch of shareholders doesn't inspire anyone to progress in way that enhances our world as a total system. The only way to step back and view our location in time and space is through a healthy combination of math and science while understanding how history has developed and repeats itself.

Gotta be the first time I strongly disagree with Stav. And I’m not even a historian but I stand with my fellow historians. You guys rock.

You'll probably need a Masters in history just to get a high school teaching job, or a Ph.D to be a college professor. But like most people with college degrees (myself included) you'll most likely end up in a field that won't even use your degree. If he doesn't want to stay in academia for the rest of his life, I'd say he stick with the bachelors and don't rack up any more debt.

If you go into the major with a plan its not bad. Most want to be teachers, a few pre-law, and a few acadamia hopefuls. I knew i wanted to be a teacher going into it, and on the other side, don't regret it
