Michael Cooper locked in his HOF credentials by being a 2-time WNBA championship coach. If it was JUST an NBA HOF then absolutely no, even as a DPOY and a great defender, he has no Allstar selections. So I agree, there should be a specific NBA only HOF.

Never understood the voting concept of getting into the HOF (for any sport). Imo, you’re either a HOF’er or you’re not. How are you not good enough during the 1st ballot but on the 10th time, you’re suddenly good enough to be in the HOF? Makes no sense.. did the retired player accumulate more stats while being RETIRED? 🤦

Simple once you understand how it works. A HOF class has a certain amount of slots every year. All the eligible players are in a pool. Some years there are a bunch of 1st ballot level guys that take all the spots other years there no 1st ballot level guys in the pool so others get a boost in votes. There's also the political aspect of it where a certain player is HOF worthy but because of outside reasons the committee will "make (player X) wait a lil bit" (Baseball regularly does that). The issue here is that the Basketball HOF has no cut off line.....thats insane. 10 years in the pool is long enough to make sure nobody slips thru the cracks.

Here’s why Vince Carter deserves to be in the Hall of Fame: - 8× NBA All-Star - All-NBA Second Team - All-NBA Third Team - Rookie of the Year - All-Rookie First Team - Slam Dunk Contest champion - 25,000+ career points - Olympic Gold Medalist - First player to play in 4 different decades - Arguably the greatest dunker in NBA history - Arguably saved the Raptors from moving away from Toronto. Without Vince selling out tickets, they may have very well followed the Grizzlies and moved out of Canada - Canadian basketball is not what it is today without Vince’s influence
@jjcardillo
@jjcardillo Месяц назад
he's borderline... -he played 20 years, and the 2 years total, he was voted the 2nd or 3rd best at his position in the game (only 2 all nba selections) that means every other season he wasn't even top 3 at his own position. -his highest MVP finish was 10th. -total points are overrated now since scoring is so easy. -he has no rings and limited team success - superstars carry their teams to deep playoff runs. -he has no invididual awards or stat titles besides the rookie of the year. -has hasn't made a defensive team. to your point, his legacy in toronto is similar to what reggie miller did in Indianapolis. and hes has international success and is the best dunker. Is that good enough to get him in the HoF. Depends on the voter.
@thechaserichardson
@thechaserichardson Месяц назад
@@jjcardillo I agree with you that it depends on the voter since there are no clear or defined criteria to judge a player by. Honestly, if T-Mac and Yao can make it in, VC is definitely in. (No offense to T-Mac, he’s in my top 5 favorite players all-time) For scoring, VC made a large amount of his points before these days of the scoring explosion, so it’s hard to judge his career by today’s PPG. If anything, because he played for so long his average is at around 16PPG, which is not great. But again, he had his most impactful years when scoring was no where near where it is nowadays. Despite his injuries that really slowed him down, he was able to transform his game into a valuable role player and mentor. For Reggie, Indiana has always been a basketball town, so I don’t think he has the same argument on impact on that town than a hockey nation like Canada. Thank you for the respectful response. Very few of those nowadays.
@jjcardillo
@jjcardillo Месяц назад
@thechaserichardson fair points especially on the scoring. Still over time those counting stats will be surpassed by the players today. Tmac had a higher peak , more nba teams and scoring titles. Still he didn't have any team success, never an mvp finalist and limited longevity which hurt his case. Not a great hof case. Yao is a good comparison due to the international impact.

Not saying that the HoF is always on point, on the contrary… However, Michael Cooper (and bringing up Blake Griffin), is not a good example. Y’all selling Coop short, tbh… The game ain’t all about offense and flash!.. and even so, Michael Cooper was pretty athletic, very energetic, had plenty of highlight plays, he became one of the best 3pt shooters of his era, persecutor to the 3D player of today (even if he was MUCH more than just that), could handle and pass the rock, relieved Magic of playmaking duties, he could even score when called upon. Adding to all of that? He was a good contributor to one of the best dynasties ever, won 4 rings, he’s one of the GOAT defensive players, won DPOY as a guard and coming off the bench, made a bunch of All-Defensive Teams, he’s one of the best 6th men ever! Plus yeah, Coop also made his mark as a coach, before the NBA, overseas… Blake Griffin was definitely a better player, better talent, so on.. but it’s about the body of work. Yeah, Coop landed on a better team, yet he also contributed a lot to it! To a dynasty! And Blake had some good teams and never won, for example. And who knows what Coop could’ve done individually on worse teams; while he still did a whole lot already (mostly defensively). If anything, Coop’s induction was overdue, especially looking at some people that already made it…

Fun fact Vince carter is 20th all-time in scoring, where is Blake Griffin on that list? Just because Vince played in an incredible era of SGs and Blake played in an incredibly weak era of PFs doesn't mean Blake has a better resume. Also Michael Cooper is an 8x all defensive player 5x time champion and DPOY in 1987 Blake Griffin has exactly 0 DPOYs rings and all-defensive team appearances Cooper should've been in a long time ago

If Blake Griffin is a hall of famer then certainly Shawn Kemp is in because he got his team to the NBA Finals and in his ladder years was the actual leader of a playoff team with the cavs.

Dead ass! I admire his valor, and kinda embrace/accepting the journeyman role. And adapted to a midrange shooter & even beyond the arch. Whoever, thought he would ever led the league in 3P% at 1 time?

If you’ve never made the Finals you have no business being a HOFer…you have no business getting your number retired. It’s just disrespectful. At the very least have a conference finals and a mvp or two.

That's a horrible take.. one it takes a team to get to the finals! You can be a super star and not make the finals. You can't punish the Super Star because they had a bad team..

How TF is Vince Carter not a hall of famer. This is pathetic, he has some of the most iconic moments in basketball history, let alone the NBA.

I have suspected the NBA and the league union has INTENTIONALLY avoided creating an NBA HOF as courtesy to great basketball figures outside of the NBA. The belief being that regards for great female, collegiate, and foreign players, coaches and management are enhanced via their connection to the NBA via the BHOF. For example, putting Sheryl Swoopes and Lisa Leslie in the same institution as Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul Jabbar raises the attention and regard not only for Swoopes and Leslie, but for the WNBA and female basketball, overall.

I agree with Chris, Vince was better than Blake. And you’re smoking something serious to even imply Blake was better than Reggie Miller stop it. I’m not mad if Blake gets in but overall Vince has a slightly better career/resume imo, and he’s not close to Reggie as a player.

mark from sacramento is absolutely correct… these guys don’t watch the games. they tell you in between the lines you just have to listen. they are stat box merchants. chris legitimately got on air & said GSW warriors ceiling is WCF 😂😂😂 & now look at them. while also getting on FTF and completely disregarding the malpractice of darvin ham and his lineups all year. i stand with mark call these guys out. they have a huge platform and just be pushing narratives

You know what would be a good look for the league... some form of self congratulatory event for the players. The NBA is collapsing for a number of reason... one of which is because fans are sick of overpaid narcissists with entitlement issues complaining about how many nights they get to take off while still getting to pretend they tried hard. This topic shows a shocking lack of self awareness from 2 "sports" guys

The basketball Hall of Fame has low standards as long as you have a cool nickname in a few highlights you get in, I love the baseball Hall of Fame because they have high standards, only the best of the best gets in People got offended when I said Tracy McGrady shouldn't be in the Hall of fame, and I stand by that he shouldn't, never got out of the first round until he went to the spurs,.

They need to look back at the 60s Celtics too. I think that whole roster got in the hall of fame. Great take on Silver creating the NBA Hall of Fame as his ultimate legacy. If he does, they need to be as stringent on inductees like MLB is. Its the Hall of Fame not a participation award.
