As a Niner fan I would say NO he shouldn't get fired but he's an overrated coach. People keep saying how he's some offense of genius but some how that genius always goes away from the RUN when it matters most. You would of thought by now he would understand while having a lead, running the ball is always a good option. The 3rd quarter play calling is a FIREABLE offence but he still should keep his job. How after you get an INT ball on the 44 yard line you decide to PASS, PASS and PASS for a 3 & out? You have the BEST DAMN RUNNING BACK IN THE LEAGUE and you don't let him touch the ball? They could of ran 3 straight times and still been in FG range and at least had a chance to go back up 10. In all honesty I would give him ONE more year to prove himself and if he can't win it next season then time to move on. It makes Zero sense to have all that talent & if it wasn't for his dumb ass play calling they would of had 2 rings by now. I'm pissed at him but it is what it is and it's now over with but at least in the last 2 games he finally was able to come from behind while trailing in the 4th so hopefully he can finally break this dumb ass choking job in the super bowl and actually win next year

My Niners GAVE the game away than the Chiefs actually winning it. We stopped running with the ball. When Mahomes threw that interception, we threw and threw and it only led to a punt. We needed to run it in every down. We stopped running the ball to get it to at least FG range. Then we failed to convert 3rd and 4 twice. Do you think McCaffery couldn’t get 4 yards each of those times? It only led to Purdy throwing it to nobody. The muffed punt return was the biggest backbreaker. Could haunt us for years like Kyle Williams dropping the ball twice. Kyle “Doc Rivers” Shanahan and Steve Wilks cost us this game with bad decisions. Add the muffed punt return and blocked PAT. Then the random Greenlaw injury. Then Deebo Samuel and George Kittle being hurt but feeling more invisible for most of this game. And then our D falling completely apart against the Chiefs’ final two drives. I don’t believe Kyle will get fired or anything. He did turn things around since we got him. But he’s also costs us critical games. He’s not on the level of Andy Reid. And he doesn’t instill confidence to his team and that’s why we choke games late. Is Kyle allergic to good QBs? I think I counted like 3 possessions in a row in that 3rd quarter where they passed on first down and ended up in third and long situations. Once they started running consistently in the 4th they seemed to move the ball with ease. Even that last 3rd and 4 should've been a run because the Chiefs could not stop it.

Don't get any illusion that the 9ers are returning next year. Players that just openly admited that their coach failed to review the overtime rules with them, will walk if they can get out of that franchise and go play for a team with professional coaches.

As someone who also did not know the new OT rule in the playoffs until this game went to OT, along with the 49ers captains it seems, I realized you did not want the ball if you win the toss very quickly and could not believe the 4ers took the ball. It does not take an analytics guru and the whole season to prepare on what to do. There is no possible way to win the game on the first possession of OT unless you are on defense. There is also no possible way to lose the game on the first possession, unless you are on offense. Putting your offense on the field first is a huge disadvantage. With the new OT rule, the team possessing the ball first is extremely vulnerable. The game can only end with something bad if you have the ball on the first possession. They should do a 10 minute period of OT and whoever has more points by the end wins or if still tied, do another 10 minutes for the playoff rule. This is the only way to minimize the huge advantage during the toss, that is if you know what to do with the advantage.

If I were the owner of the 49ers I would be asking Kyle to document how he is going adapt his coaching for next season based on this game and the rest of the Playoff games. He shouldn't be fired for a decision to take the ball first in overtime because there is some logic to the decision. The problem though that there was a catalog of bad decisions in this game and the other Playoff games and in this game for me the worst was the lack of use of the run in the second half. you know you QB is not built to deal with multiple Blitzes so Chris Jones was able to exert pressure and change the momentum. If your are handing off to CMC then that Blitz defence isn't even being dialed up

People aren't making a big enough deal of the punt "fumble". That is unequivocally the reason San Francisco lost and he let his team down. Players will make mistakes, but a mistake like that is unacceptable. That kind of egregious mental error will basically guarantee you a loss in a big game. And it did.

4th Qtr, 3rd & 4, run in TWICE. If you can’t convert that, then so be it, but you had a chance to make sure Mahomes didn’t get back on the field. Settling for FGs and this “take the points” mentality is so antiquated. You play to win the game. Their best shot was pounding CMC twice on that 3rd & 4. That’s what the analytics would tell you. It’s why we get annoyed with people hating on Dan Campbell. Being aggressive and taking away the other teams ability to possess the ball is how you win games. Kicking FGs with 2 min left vs the Chiefs is NOT a winning strategy.

No, Shanahan does not need to be fired. The Niners have gone to four of the last five NFC Championship Games, winning two of them. It's HARD to win in the NFL, and the playoffs is win-or-go-home (not win-and-get-'em-back-next-game-in-the-series). I don't think people fully appreciate that. That's just my take as a Niners fan who remembers all too well the pain of firing a great HC in Harbaugh, and then enduring Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly.

If you want to beat the Chiefs, you keep their offense on the sidelines, and you do it by running the ball and sustaining drives. It's still not been adequately explained why Shanahan abandoned it in the second half and leaving their defense on the field for too long.

I like the 3rd possession explanation, a lot. He's right, that does actually make up for the 2nd possession crystal ball. I hadn't thought of it, but it's better by a tiny bit I think. However, all the more reason to score 7 or 0, not 3, against Patty Maholmes. Play 4 down football, especially in the red zone like they were. If they get 0? Chiefs may punt on 4th and half a yard. You don't fire Kyle. Not a chance. But you tell him it's 4 down football on their last two possessions and he's lucky they even got a second chance. His call worked on the 3rd down in OT, and an Olineman blew it. But he also didn't call 4 down ball, should have, and even getting nothing, should have went for it on 4th and 4. Just like the possession prior actually, expect that was on Purdy on 3rd down I'd say. I thought everyone did well really, great game. But those last two possessions were clear 4 down ball. Not easy calls, but obvious enough.
