The thing about Rob Zombie (whether solo or with White Zombie) is his songs are heavily influenced by the retro, sci fi, and horror genres. He is a huge fan of the low "B" rated style movies and shows, which is what he puts into his music and music videos. That's why they are the way they are, it's him putting his love for that "B" rated retro, sci fi, horror style into his music.

The time this song was released is very important. Raves and techno music were huge. You have to give him credit for originality.

This song always reminds me of the game "Twisted Metal"! Basically, free roaming demolition in various environs. Back in the day. Yeah, you guys are right, it's dance metal. Same with NIN and their ilk. Aggressive techno, not really metal.

A better introduction to Rob Zombie/White Zombie would have been "Thunder Kiss '65" or "More Human Than Human"

White Zombie - Electric Head Pt. 1 (The Agony) I'm afraid though that since you started with this song you'll be reluctant to visit the less campy stuff.

When Rob Zombie put out this song and its album, it was his attempt at taking his horror rock from White Zombie, and putting it into a more mainstream, pop formula. I recommend checking out "Demonoid Phenomenon" or "Meet The Creeper". Or from White Zombie, "More Human Than Human" or "El Phantasmo and the Chicken Run Blastorama".

Dragula was the name of Grandpas car from The Munsters. It was an old school Hot Rod and IIRC, he built it.

I think "Dragula" comes from "The Musters". The Dragster they had. Amazingly enough Grandpa Lewis had a PHD in Child Psychology... RIP Al...

Here's a fun fact; in Pretty Woman, near the beginning, when 'Vivian' went into the Blue Banana looking for her room-mate to find out what happened to the rent, Rob Zombie was the front man for the band on stage. I think his biggest hit with White Zombie was Thunder Kiss '65, which at the time was pretty awesome (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yPNFVj-pISU.html ). This was happening at the same time as Ministry etc.; but his stage act in Pretty Woman where they were pretty much doing this already (but weren't a known band yet) shows he was ahead of the curve.

The colorful retro monster movie aesthetic of the video was a big part of the appeal of this song back when. Mr. Zombie was very influenced by both Ed Roth and the Universal Studios monsters. The White Zombie material like "thunderkiss" and "more human than human" are both more accessible. This was all primarily just fun music to party to with your friends.

Saw Rob Zombie live in, I think, 2005. Amazing show. Every other song they alternated between gogo dancers and insane pyrotechnics🔥
