Tom, ever have a robart control box smoke on you? I removed the jumper, hooked up a 2 cell battery and connected a lead from the gear channel on the receiver into the port next to the jumper. Was working fine then all of the sudden when I tried to raise the gear, the box smoked and is fried. Faulty unit or did I do something wrong?
You need to check with Robert. I never had one smoke up but that doesn’t mean a whole bunch in the bigger scheme of things. Robert has the expertise and has always seemed pretty stand up.
FYI: The Internet is king of the mixed messages - on anything. I honestly have no seen a problem with Robart electrics that were their problem. Guys that never clean or lube the sliding struts or forget to charge their battery packs often blame the retracts. I had one retract hang up and found that I had the cable just barely plugged in. My bad. Pushed the plug all the way in and it has been fine ever since.
+Mike Geren ESM kits are cheaper than other for a reason. They can skimp on included parts and design that can force adding huge amounts of weight to balance. The Zero I built needed 2 1/2-lbs to balance! I wold much rather pay the difference and get a kit from folks like Top Flite any day.
