He may still have to face prison time UNLESS the statutes of limitations has expired. Idk how it works in the state he's in but either way, the law is going to get involved now.

@ettak7594 but you're forgetting one key factor: Prosecutors can still press charges if they feel like they have a good enough case where a judge and/or jury will convict the criminal responsible for the crime, even if the victim or victims don't request to press charges. So like I said, God may have forgiven him, yes, but that doesn't mean the law will forgive him and he may still possibly face criminal charges

@ettak7594 and even if he doesn't face actual prison time, he may still have to register as a sex offender, so either way the law may still get involved now that this has come to light.

Unfortunately this situation is all too common in the church. Pastors, priests, deacons, etc get away with this kind of behavior. They typically blame their behavior on the enemy and feel like all is well as long as they repent. He should've stepped down as pastor and turned himself in!

He did not have sex with the girl, according to the story. That doesn't mean what he did was ok. He deserved some punishment, but there is no need to destroy him over this.

There was no mention sex but I have a hard time believing that kissing and petting occurred for YEARS without it escalating to sex. That's the purpose of grooming and it kissing abd petting a pubescent child is grooming behavior.

I learned this type of behavior happened with the Southern Baptist leaders regarding Charles Stanley. His wife wanted a divorce because he was never there for her and cared more for his career in ministry than his family. Instead of trying to get it together, Charles pushed her to the side and the southern Baptist leaders kept it under wraps until she died and never got her divorce. I don't celebrate none of them.

The idea or assumption is that God's forgiveness is supposed to cover the sin and keep you from mankind's criminal justice system, and that is not the case at all

"God still judges you even if you repent"? I might disagree. I respectfully think that God forgives you when you are truly repentant, but He expects you to face the consequences of your sin. And He can help you through that.

Acts 27 is a great example of God sparing the lives of the crewmen but allowing the ship to be DESTROYED.

@@davidthedreamer0 I agree with you, but Jesus said in the book of Matthew to pay your debtors what is owed so that you're not put jail. The Bible says that our sins will be thrown in the sea of forgetfulness. Another passage says, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us if our sins. God's law is vastly different from the law of Man. So we can confess to a congregation all that we've done and God will put us in right standing with him. As for man you can confess what you've done but you face the consequences of the laws within the state that you live, which means jail or even the deal penalty!!

If he was as big of a shiester as what is being said.... why would be bother to do that. So now she is hell bent on not forgiving which is also against God's Word.... Jesus said to forgive 70 x 7 and to love your enemies. Can a man take fire in his bosom and not be burned. Man, I would love for my abusers to apologize to me for the sin they committed against me. Arbiters of the Law are not always in alignment with God's Word. Jesus said that more weightier matters of Justice & Mercy. NONE of us deserve HIS mercy, we are all guilty. And yes what he did, deserved punishment under the Law of the land. But in God's kingdom, Shady Grove and her family agreed to this discipline. If they did not agreed, they many years to bring it to the authorities. But at least he has stepped down now, but for her, God may not be as pleased. Jesus gave a model prayer that says...."forgive me of my sin AS I forgive those who sinned against me". When this life ends, we fall under his judicial system, not the world's system. And forgiveness in this life is a prerequisite, and denying this is false doctrine.
