One of the best scenes in the whole show. The chose of music and the picture with all the yellow umbrellas depicts ones more that HIMYM was always more than just a silly sitcom.
The emotion in Robins voice makes me think she was in love with him, but knew she didn’t want a family, and didn’t want him to miss out on that for because of her.
I don’t think she loves him that way, but as a friend, so the way she says it with that emotion is because she doesn’t want her best friend, one that she truly loves, get hurt, however that’s inevitable
Moments like this is why I love Marshall so much, hes so aware of his friends feelings and emotions. Hes not afraid to say what needs to be said to protect who he loves
that was really cool of Marshall, this wasn't something obvious, like it wasn't something that _called_ on you to do. it takes someone who genuinely cares to notice that and step in
One of the most heartbreaking scene of the show and still ended with such great notes.. that's why How I Met Your Mother is more than just a sitcom and my favourite show ❤️
All this development, Ted getting over Robin, getting disenchanted with the idea of destiny etc. was wasted by the finale, where we see him ending up right where he started. Implying that maybe he was lying to himself and that just takes away from all these wonderful moments in the show.
Not really. Ted got what he wanted in life. Robin got what she wanted in life. Once they've accomplish their own wishes and dreams they could be together. It was sad seeing Tracy die but the show was never truly really about her. And the finale doesn't change anything about the show. Some liked the finale, majority hated it, doesn't matter. The show was Legen-Wait For It... DARY regardless!

Don't know if Ted was lying to himself or the viewers were, constantly ignoring the hints put in my the writers. For example, in this video itself, the uploader cuts the last part of the scene where Lily asks Marshall to pay up and Marshall says, "Not Yet", clearly implying Ted x Robin ain't over. But sure, let's go with - "the ending wasn't what I expected so the writers are lazy and unfaithful to the narrative"
Binged watching the whole 9 seasons in 3 weeks. Rooting for Ted and Robin since season 1. Sure the ending was not well executed and seen forced ( probably since season 7 the show started to be less awesome), but this scene hit me hard when I first watched it. Somehow I felt Robin always loved Ted in some way but she knows she's not the one Ted should start a family with (which is Ted's biggest wish) So she keep a distance 'cause she knew Ted would do everything once she showed any hint of possibility. She eventually be with Barney 'cause they seem alike, fun to hang out with, and shared the same perspective about life and family, but that's only before the got married. Barney valued his family a lot (his mom, brother, and his dad), so it's no surprise after Barney had a family of his own, his life truly fufilled. It just sad that Robin and Barney couldn't see that before they walked down the aisle.

Na Robin just wanted to play the field and Ted being a nice guy looking for love was cringe to her. She wanted a shitty person to date because she knew she was a shitty person to date and it works. Also she knew not to shit where she sleeps. In fact the only reason I think Ted seems like he has a chance at the end Is because Robin was old lonely and out of options because only somone like Ted would tolerate her at that point.
Its just that if the mother didnt die, he would have still been with her. So Robin by default felt like the substitute and was just settling for her at the end.
The scene plays out very similarly to how it felt letting go of my best friend I’ve always had a secret love for, it pained me too much to know me and her would never happen, so I ended up just cutting tides with her because holding onto that friendship was causing me more pain than anything

Even though I don't like that scene because I love Ted and Robin together, this scene shows life and then when they realize they still in love to each other is so sweet to see, it's life! I love the whole show and ending of the show so so much!!
never forget how he let the perfect dreamgirl go cos he couldn't shake the feels for Robin but the cherry on top was when he made it rain☺️. I mean how many is out there who can say the same thing 😄👍
When a woman says she doesnt love you its time to move on. Dont waste another second on her, she does not want you. Mad props to Marshall I always found him to be the true star of the show. Hes a true loyal friend, He protected Ted from the harm of others and protects him from himself. We would all be so lucky to have a Marshall as a friend in our lives.
Another thing that gets me about this scene is the mirror to Robin leaving the apartment after that conversation with Lily. Such a well thought out passion project of a show.
She did love him but she said no because even though Ted said he was fine with it, she knew his biggest dream was to have kids and she didn’t want to trap him just because he’s in love with her.
Everyone saying that Robin truly loved Ted even if that's true if you truly love someone you wouldn't string them along having a safety school as ted once said is not good either forcing feelings won't change the situation later, Yes Barney and Robin had their issues but remember ted is also an unreliable narrator. Robin even agreed to being his backup wife she could have stated feelings numerous times but chose not to. The hook episode encapsulates their whole dynamic. They always want to be with one another when their miserable not happy and yes Barney the same issues as Robin he understood her need for independence their both the same kind of broken. Ted needed someone completely there not just out of options.
I don’t understand why people dislike the ending of the show. Ted got his family, which is why I always thought Robin didn’t wanna be with him and she really did love him. And he ended up with Robin because Barney would never stay married to anyone. Only bad thing was his wife had to die to make it happen. They could’ve written a divorce in.
@@mackinshizzaveli4202 Because Barney and Robin belonged together as shown repeatedly from s1 zip zip zip, their character development from Commitment phobic to getting married was the best part of the show and Robin and Ted had only 2 seasons dedicating where they were never meant to. She was aunt robin and tracy was the only one. It was a lazy writing and the writers had to use an old tape shot while s2 but it came with a cost of stripping all the development and Ted moving on thing.

Who watched that show and didn’t think Ted and Robin wouldn’t end up together? They promised each other they would be together, Ted taught Barney a course on how to love Robin, Robin told Ted if she were to have any bodies kids it would be his. They cut a scene out the finale where Robin told Ted she knew she chose wrong. Only lazy writing was killing Tracey. They could’ve written a divorce in.

She was aunt robin and robin rejected him 5 times if i'm counting right. Ted and Robin realised that they want different things and Ted didn't even liked Robin's independence unlike barney who like everything about her and not just the good parts. Barney said she meant more to him than kids and Robin said she can't shake the fact they belonged together. The writers made Barney and Robin compatible and soulmates in gradually developed relationship from s3 to s9. Then they tried to sabotage using few incidents like locket scene and divorce so that they could use the tape.
Robin Moving in and needing to leave reminded me of Friends. When Rachel and Ross were not only living together but when they were still married. All bc Ross in his heart finally married the woman he was in love w since he was a kid and tried to blame the reason in being known for divorces.
I hate this this happened. After ted got over Robin YEARS before this, he suddenly just HAD to confess his love for her. The writers just jammed this in so the ending wouldnt be as out of the blue.
Ted never got over Robin, even throughout season 8 and 9, he admits to still having feelings for Robin, heck it’s the reason his best relationship (aka with Victoria) ends

@Black Ninja no not really, people wanted Barney and Robin to end up as the couple even though both were unfit for what the other needed. He pretty much got over Tracy kinda like how Marshall got over for Lilly for a while until he recognized the stuff she went through for him just to get him back
@Black Ninja except from the get-go those 2 weren’t going to last given how Barney is, her mother literally spells it out for her, she needed someone to be there for her when it mattered and that wasn’t Barney, Ted is the one who always came through for her, be it the locket or just trying to cheer her up after the bad news she got. The only reason Ted doesn’t actively goes after her was because she was with Barney, it was pretty obvious he still wanted her, it’s why he wanted to move. Robin’s growth came in the fact that she needed stability someone who can do big and small gestures. Barney can’t do small . Barney needed unconditional love and who he can support but given Robin’s job and personality they can’t. Robin is a career woman first and a wife second, it’s one of the main reason why her and Ted didn’t work out, she had to stay away from the group (and especially from Ted) to recognize that she missed them, she recognized that she missed Ted given how his changes are minimal but still stays himself (like with the moving out party for Marshall and Lilly) Robin needed to realize the same thing JD of Scrubs needed to, understanding their emotions. JD was only able to recognize that the moment Elliott and Keith got engaged.
@Black Ninja watch it, Ted and Robin are so much like JD and Elliott. Heck Sarah Chalke who played Stella played Elliott (the jacket she wore as a doctor was her jacket from Scrubs )
Actually Ted doesn't deserve Robin, he doesn't like her independence still had a weird obsession of her being an idea wife fantasy. He never liked the real Robin.
@@barney4053 I think Ted loved Robin so much as a person. He really did like the real Robin. He cared about her so much that he even chose her friendship over relationships with other women. He stuck with her. She was one of his best friends. He was his true self with her and she with him. I think he would’ve been with her no matter what but deep down Robin knew she would be holding Ted back from the life he’s always fantasized. She cared about Ted too. They just wanted different things.

Brett T except from a character perspective and event perspective it made more sense to have those 2 together than Barney and Robin, both needed different things out of their relationship, Robin needed someone who was there for her when it mattered and throughout the show that was Ted not Barney, hell his mother even told her that before their wedding. Barney needed someone who wouldn’t leave him, which isn’t Robin because of her career

This episode is why I hated the finale, why did this episode talk so much about moving on and closing the door on something only to just reverse the entire thing and have Ted and Robin get back together
And yet somehow after this, Ted still holds on to the idea of him and Robin. So it turns out the whole thing was just Ted confessing to his kids that their mother wasn’t what he wanted all his life, it was Robin. Even though she told him she didn’t love him. Smdh…
And finally ted gets to see all the yellow umbrellas. And then he chooses his "the one", but again gets back with the one who had no yellow umbrella, but had 5 dogs instead. Okay, I'm done. I really love the show though.
This episode was the perfect beginning of the dovetail into Ted once and forever getting over Robin. What a terrible, terrible shame they threw away every bit of Ted, Robin and Barney's development from Seasons 8-9 in one crap episode because the directors couldn't shift gears 9 years later.
Honestly, why does Ted still talk with Marshall?!? He’s been a part of the bet of him and Robin, so how is Ted supposed to trust anything he (and Lily) says anymore is real or so he can win one of the bets. (yes he’s rooting for them to be together and he ended up being right but that’s irrelevant) Hell, Marshall proves my point just moments later telling Robin to keep the hairdryer.
Can't stand people who are still bashin on the show for the ending, and no it wasn't a bad ending. Yes, it was a little rushed, and I would assume for genuine reasons. The beautiful thing about HIMYM is not just the comedy, we all know how many great sitcoms/romcom got amazing comedy. We're used to that, and we expect that from them. However, the thing that I absolutely love about the show in particular is how they incorporate a certain level of tragedy to add depth and a meaningful connection between the characters and audience. You don't just laugh with them, you feel for them on a very universal level because the emotions themselves are universal. It is amazing artistry to blend comedy and tragedy together in unifying harmony, because life is exactly that. It is never all laughter and happiness, and it is not all gloom and sadness. You have to give credit to the show and while I understand that people are mad about the ending, it's time to let go. The ending constitute around a percent of the entire show, which still leaves 99% of the show as you'd like it. A no brainer right there.

Because there was always only one for Ted. He could accept no's from them all and move on, but he could never stop loving Robin despite her telling him she didnt love him cause she was the one for him. I didnt quite get your questions but yeah this is my response to what I thought you were saying.
Beatiful scene but the end makes this and other great moments of the show suck, ok the mom could die, but don't make Ted and Robin end up together that's just bullshit and in a way a Disney's ending
I find it strange that Ted still wanted to be with Robin even after finding out she's infertile considering he wants to have kids when he finally gets married. In fact, Kevin broke up with Robin BECAUSE she can't give him kids. If I were Ted, I would have given up on Robin the second I learned about her infertility. Sure Ted and Robin have some unresolved feelings that they can't shake off, but the idea of marrying someone who can't give you kids is just sad

Paul Dosdos there is a difference between not being able to have kids and not wanting kids. Robin is both, she can’t and also doesn’t want to have kids If having kids is something you want so bad in life, you can sometimes end up resenting your partner for not letting you have your dream of kids and experiencing it even though you love them so much
It was one of the many reasons they didnt work. Ted wanted kids. Robin didn't. Ted was going to give up what he wanted to be with robin, but you shouldn't have to sacrifice your happiness for someone.
