RoboCop - Versions Comparison (HD)

Many versions of the RoboCop game were released in the late eighties. Some of them are direct ports of the Data East Arcade and the others are free adaptations with new playable elements and notable variations. I decided to include all of them in this video. In my opinion, there are three groups of games, so I divided the video in three parts (the versions shows one after another like all my videos although):
Part 1: Arcade and its direct ports:
Arcade (0:00)
Apple II (1:29)
Amiga (4:04)
Atari ST (5:24)
PC DOS (6:25)
PC DOS (Tandy 1000): (8:39)
I have recorded an additional footage of the first PC version with the Tandy 1000 configuration, not only so that you can appreciate the best sound quality but because there are playable differences too. For example, the first boss was replaced by a mini-horde of enemies at the end of the first level.
Part 2: Ocean Versions:
Commodore 64 / C64 (10:15)
ZX Spectrum (12:10)
MSX (14:02)
Amstrad CPC (16:36)
PC DOS (18:20)
Game Boy (20:18)
Part 3: Sakata SAS Co. Versions:
NES / Famicom (23:25)
TRS-80 CoCo 3 / Tandy Color Computer 3 (25:10) (Sound issues. The music sounds much better on the real machine).

Ocean really sold Commodore users down the river. The game breaking bug on the C64 version, followed by promises the Amiga version would be built for the hardware, not just a barely enhanced ST Port, which was exactly what it was 😭 The coin-op remains an absolute favourite of mine, to this day.

I can't believe I've gone all this time without knowing that the main theme of James Pond 2: Codename: Robocod was based on the RoboCop theme (I never saw RoboCop nor heard its theme until now)! I thought the only RoboCop references in that game were the title and Pond's metal suit. I feel so stupid, lol.

One of my absolute favorite arcade games of all time, and together with X-Men Vs. Street Fighter & Chase H.Q. one of the very few I was able to beat on a single credit. It's a shame we'll never see the arcade version on a modern home system due to the Robocop license. Data East were awesome.

yeah its not too bad at all, the NES and Gameboy also did very well to make the action sounds and soundtrack pick up the weight where their graphics could not lol... good times.

Had the amstrad version back in the day, played it to death. Recently picked up the spectrum and game boy versions good times.

Fond memories of Robocop. First played in the arcades then onto the Commodore64, Atari STe and Amiga. Also played the Speccy 128k version at a friends house. The speech on the Speccy has to be the best i ever heard on a 8bit machine.

BAZFANSHOTHITS if the video above shows the ZX Spectrum port (version) has no speech i guess it has no speech

@@jasonlee7816 The 48k had no speech. The 128k version on the other side of the tape had Robcop saying the directives.

The Amiga version of RoboCop is actually the very first game I have ever played, back in 1990 when I was just 5 years old. It is obviously far from a good game, but it will always hold a special place in my heart ^^

apart from the window and smaller sprites it's not that bad a conversion, maybe a bit choppy but did the job. Robocop 2 on the amiga is cool but one of the hardest games ever. Robocop 3 was amazing... a FPS before Doom with a driving and flight sim combined.

I am not sure what emulator you used for the Tandy Coco 3 version, but it's glitching the music compared to on the real thing. It did the sound effects and graphics fine, though.

I still love the look of the C64 version. It used sprites with a hi-res overlay which gave everything a dark, comic book look. Amazing SID music too.

The Amiga version is an utter disgrace. They did an excellent job of Robocop 2, though. Shows what could have been achieved with the first one.

I never thought the Amiga version was that bad at the time. In fact after playing the NES version it was damn near arcade perfect in comparison.

One of the biggest gaming disappointments of my youth was being crazy hyped for the nes to get a version only to pop that sucker in and find out it wasn't the arcade game in the slightest.

The arcade game is one of my favorite games of all times.. But none of the home versiones are good... I´m 100% sure that a GENESIS version could result in a very good conversion

The amiga and Atari st ports are garbage their blocky and not fun,the spectrum and amstrad versions are better and the C64 game is literally unbeatable it's definitely the worst version

Fenomenal juego, tuve tres versiones (Spectrum, Atari ST y Game Boy). Pero lo que me más me gustaba era la recreativa, sin duda. Gracias al M.A.M.E. pude ver el final! Por cierto, la versión de C64 estaba llena de bugs y no se podía completar.

Eso he leído de la versión de C64, y que un buen samaritano los corrigió todos años más tarde. De todas formas, como solo jugué un nivel tampoco he podido comprobarlo, jaja.

The crazy thing is the Speccy and Gameboy versions are far more playable and superior to the 16 bits and arcade.

Man, it's a rough run when the Gameboy version wins a port war, and even then it was still more of a remix, however it still had the gameplay intact. I was so happy to get that one over the shocking disappointment that the NES version played almost nothing like the arcade game. Later my first computer was a Tandy 1000 RL, and while I never got it for pc back then, I still think that frame rate would have killed me.
