I've wanted to make a robot hand like this since seeing it on Mythbusters as a kid.

The rope used in myth busters is called mule tape and it is used for pulling wire through conduit. Very strong stuff and slick so it doesn’t catch on things

I read the title in reverse - a robot hand controlling your real hand, and while it seems fairly dangerous to develop test it would be a great video. You could link up the system to your current sensor and even have someone else control your hand!
@keithviolette5870

To account for the cable stretching, you could add a sustaining valve to each cylinder, like in old drum brakes, which would maintain a few psi, keeping the string tight. You would need stronger springs though. You could also use spring extend/air retract cylinders to neaten the cable routing. Extra levers could be used to increase power while reducing stroke, but you would need aircraft cable or kevlar webbing to prevent stretching. I've designed and built a few hands in my time - my profile pic is me wearing a LUKE arm, something I've been honored to help create for wounded warriors. Keep the great content coming!

Bicycle brake cables are about 1.5mm in diameter. Braided steel or stainless, definitely strong enough for a hand if it's strong enough for brakes. Very cheap and available online or at local bike shop as well.

You could add strong springs to the other side of the strings to prevent the fingers from hitting themselves too hard. It would act as a passive force limiter. Also, your grip problem is caused by the incomplete thumb/hand motion.

The main reason it can’t grip very well is because it looks like how an alien would try to mimic a human hand to blend in as a 350lbs mechanized man-suit. It’s not perfect but could pass at a glance. Very cool though!

A bit late to the party, but maybe some steel fishing line or even nylon fishing line. There is something called Nano Cord, its 0.75mm and 36lbs test. Even braided fishing line. Might be 2-3mm and is 200lbs test. I am almost 100% sure there is some b-role for you flipping the robot bird 😂
