First round of upgrades to this bad boy. Adding weight and improving the suspension. Trail Test video here: • ROCHOBBY KATANA LC80: ... ESC upgrade video here: • ROCHOBBY KATANA - SLOW...
I got one kinda like this brian it’s a easy rc definitely top heavy I love the look of it though I put some stock mini t shocks on the rear stoped some of it and rubber bands on all four corners 🔥🔥🔥😎👍
These are definitely fun and challenging to mod since there is not much specific for them. But it crawls pretty dang great now and you can’t beat the body!
Thanks brother! Should do an in depth shock upgrade video. Whered you get the parts you needed to mount on to the axels? Im thinking if i just get a longer bolt... itll do. But impossible to use the existing one with my OME shocks.
I used Hobby Plus CR-18 aluminum shocks which are the same setup for mounting. You can try and swap the bottom shock end with the stock ones possibly? Those OME shocks do look super scale but are super stiff! Good luck with the modding!
"Very useful changes ... the set-up changes a lot ... good job ... hello from Italy" - Thanks so much! Had to translate, as my Italian is pretty rusty.
Hey mate, I know this is an old video but How did you lift the car using stock length shocks? I see there are alternate mounting points but I can workout how to remove the shock standoff from the chassis rail
You wont really find any for these by brand name. But they are basically Powerhobby CR-18s. So that is what the shocks are for (got them at Cross RC I believe). Wheels/tires are everywhere in 1" size. Those SSD wheels and RC4WD 1.0" tires are at RPP and Amain.
looks like Cross doesn't have the shocks, and Amain is backordered. www.amainhobbies.com/hobbyplus-cr18-cr24-aluminum-shock-upgrade-set-4-hbp240071/p-qqqet2wa7mzeqctz
Love your work and have the fms lc80 my self Can you please put up the list of upgrades and part numbers please love to do the weights wheels tires and shocks
@@bcochener thank you so much your a legend canni keep you updated on my little lc80 going to get a 1/8 or 1/10 craller soon any advice would seriously be appreciated my man also thank you again and keep doing your channel its awesome
Not really. Just aluminum, still quite bouncy. I've used oil and grease. Both need a refill after a good outing since there are no o-ring seals on the shocks.
Check out Donald’s channel for some great shock info/comparisons. He has a custom way to make oil filled as well if you’re crafty. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AxVexLOMqac.html
Hi, I'm looking to get the katana and the weighted wheels and the shocks would be something I want to upgrade and I looked up the shocks you put in it and it doesn't mention anything about oil in them. Did you need to modify the shocks at all? and what did you put in them? im new to RC so this is all alien to me.
I just added some 2000 CST weight silicon diff oil. You could use a tad bit of grease as well. Done often in the micro shocks to help with the bounce. I did not modify them.
Hello! If you get the chance can you tell me if you notice how the front suspension doesn't flex and stuff itself like the back Shocks. I get there's a panhard up front along with the steering arm. Did you notice better flex with the new Shocks up front?.Thanks for your time.
Hard to remember exactly what the exact front improvement amount was, but it performs just great. Check out these 2 running videos. Both were after the shock upgrade. I also raised the body (lowered the frame shock mount position) so it is lifted a bit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EebuRsmGrFg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YjAS4OeA_ls.html
Oh no. I went to marine grease shortly after. Anything will eventually wear itself out of the shock since these have no O-rings. Either really helps, just needs attention every so often. The grease is slower to leak out.
I put oil in them... which may have leaked out by now. They seem back to fairly soft - not as nice as they were in the install video. I am going to try heavier grease in them next. -I think I got the shocks at Cross RC.
@@scalercenthusiasm6983 anything can be filled... but as I said, it will leak out over time since there are no internal O-rings. Grease is the usual trick rather than oil.
Those are standard friction shocks, not oil shocks. You'd be better off with a small dab of grease inside or green slime lube. For oil shocks you can use the slightly longer Carisma MSA1-E aluminum oil filled shocks, but they require different mounting and do still leak a bit.
Yeah, I know. The oil worked great for a run, but yeah it did leak out. I have gone to grease for now. Hate how the shock bottoms attach with the link. Makes it really difficult to find others that will fit.
@@bcochener you can sometimes unscrew the ends from the shaft and swap around to other brands to make something work, but IMO a dab of grease in the aluminum shocks works well enough if you reapply now and then
