Bands like Night Ranger, Def Leppard, Motley, Van Halen, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, RATT, WASP, Dio, The Scorpions are what you might want to call “proto-hair metal”. That’s how I think of the early borderline metal bands. They weren’t really part of that scene but were the bands the hair metal bands all copied. That’s what makes these early 80’s years so hard to do. To me, actual hair metal, starts with Poison. That’s when the formula solidifies, you get the uniform, style, sound and the overall blueprint for what’s to come. That might be why a lot of these borderline bands hate being called hair metal bands too cuz they don’t see themselves that way. Great list of bands as usual and tell your friend thanks for turning me onto to Krokus. That damn dude can sing like crazy.
@HairMetalGuru419
@HairMetalGuru419 2 месяца назад
Great post, Brother, and I completely see your thinking--it's hard to think of hair metal not starting with Poison. And, yeah, Storace from Krokus is a wailer.

Kathy Valentine of the Go-Go’s also cowrote two of their biggest hits “Vacation” (which she brought to the band as it was a song from her time in the Textones) and “Head Over Heels”. Belinda was and still is a total babe but she can’t write a song to save her life. All of her solo hits were written by other people. Interesting side note, John 5 aka John Lowery (the new Motley guitarist) was in a band with Jane Wiedlin called Frosted who released an album in 1996.

It’s all about Shout . I stole my big brothers cassette tape ( I was like 5 !) . He had that big Poster of the Looks That Kill video shoot , next to a Van Halen Poster . I would read the liner notes , and listen to it start to finish . I then started reading Circus and Metal Edge , and the rest is history . But the Shout record is killer . Get past title track and Looks Kill . It’s Ten Seconds , Red Hot , and Danger and Bastard .. still my favorite record by MC over Too Fast and Feelgood .
