MISA! MISA! MISA! A Maiko is a Geisha (an artisan dedicated to traditional arts and culture) "in training". A full Geisha is called a Geiko. This song was sung in the older dialect of Kansai common to Kyoto and Osaka but more specifically the Kyoto variation used by the Geisha. They have their own way of turning a phrase. Miku said converting the lyrics from the original "Secret My Lips" was "very difficult". Kyoto is known as Geisha central and was home to the Emperor for over a thousand years and thus the capital until the mid 1800's. Band Maid forced heads to turn towards the older traditions and it was a good thing!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Ok, if you do not know, this is done every year on April Fool's Day. They did not do it this year because of Covid. This is their 'rival' band, Band-Maiko. This version the lyrics are in the Maiko dialect. Band-Maiko has a mini-album. It. Is. Fantastic. (Also, an inside joke is that Akane is always eating) (What Miko is writing in the beginning is 'World Domination')

I love MISA's howl. When they were asked about a live performance, they said the robes were too restrictive and hot. They are are so beautiful in the robes and the makeup.

I guess the next BAND-MAIKO reaction will be "Gion-cho". In my opinion, it's even better than "secret MAIKO lips". Great reaction Mr. Rock N Roll!!

I don't know what the Band-Maid are cooking right now but I think we will taste some delights in 2021. I think Miku is a very determined girl, she said in an interview, while Saiki gasped without a voice, that she had created Band-Maid to rule the world, she wants Band-Maid to become the biggest and most famous band in the world, I think that Miku has a very hard head and maybe she can even do it.

Kanami's, (lead), computer plays the "Shamisen" plus everthing else she added to the track. She really is a GENIUS composer just like Tuomas ..... Miku may have formed the Best Rock Band at the minute but Kanami wrote the music :) (apart from the first two songs and Blooming) Who gives a f..k really they are collectively as you would say THA' BEST :)

That is Misa holding the Shamisen, I don't think she knows how to play it though as it is quite difficult to play and takes yrs to master. It was most likely added in a separate recorded track and added in production, not to take anything away from them in any way. Probably the best player in Japan playing in a modern fusion group would be Beni from Wagakki Band, she is a master of that instrument, regardless I loved the change of look for this video.

In Kyoto(not Tokyo..), the ancient capital of Japan, MAIKO were girls whose job was to add entertainment to banquets with dance and musical performances. It's originated about 300 years ago, and the girls working in cafes at that time began to perform shamisen, three-stringed traditional instrument, and dance. Even today, they are still active in Kyoto districts under the strictest traditions. Now, I think you got understand why they play as Maiko. It's very similar concept as BAND-MAID, isn't it?

These girls must have some mysterious power within them.

MISA MISA MISA! most people get the Shamisen (3 string Banjo type), Taiko (Drum) and the Koto (13 stringed instrument) but all the way weaving thru is the Hichiriki (Flute type instrument)

This version is better than the original. Released in 2018 as an April Fool's joke. In April 2019 then "Gion-cho" - I think it's even better. Also found on the Band Maid official website. Great but both songs.

Band MAIKO is the first Japanese all ladies band that play modern instruments(minus the Shamisen and Koto)with their fully equipped KIMONO attires, pls correct me if I'm wrong. These ladies are ahead of their time, not just cute and beautiful but they're brilliant! Another good reactions dude 👍😀👍

I love this version more than I already love the original. The addition of traditional instruments and also the singing in the Kyoto dialect makes it even more interesting for me to listen to and gives the song, I think, a bit more personality. They have another video in their repertoire as "Band-Maiko" with the title "祇園町" (Gion-cho)". And unlike 'Secret Maiko Lips' it's an original and not a cover of one of their regular songs. 😉🤘🏻

If you're looking for a new band to react to, then check out Asterism. They are an up and coming Japanese metal/rock band. I don't want to say anything more about them because it may influence your reaction. I recommend their music video Rising Moon MV (AL "The Session Vol 2".

The North/ Northwestern Europeans may have a boat load of awesome metal bands, Vikings and Nightwish which makes them Great, especially due to Nightwish, but the Japanese are just as great with their anime and bands like this. Kind of creates a balance of 2 Awesome poles... “Perfectly balanced as all things should be “ :)

You should see Akane now. Her hair is longer and she either dyed it darker, or let her natural color come out. Either way, she looks even more lovely now. MISA went and got a perm, Saiki let her hair grow out even longer now, Miku is...well...still Miku and still stunning, and Kaname is maintaining that girlish cuteness along with that girl-crush on Saiki. :)

I think i remember a comment of a japanese fan that explained Kanami added the traditionnal instrument with the help of synthe and re-recorded the song with a sound enngineer. Even for a April Fool's Day, they did the best they can. A+ Cette année Nöel tombe le 20 janvier (2021).

the one on the left be MisaMisa ;) she's air guitaring the shamisen :D Akane is playing with a ko-taiko(hand drum). Miku has a fue/flute. Kanami on the right is in front of the koto/japanese harp.

Fun fact: Even though "Secret Maiko Lips" was dropped a year after the original "Secret My Lips" on RU-vid, it has 1 million more views. That means potentially 1m people have violated the Rick Rule. Where is Rick Wagner these days? Has anybody seen him over in the Babymetal reactions?

hahaha.. such a "late April fool" but those sound couldn't fool you though, finally you get into this video, Mr. Rock N Roll. Band maiko was an April fools joke that turned into an album from what I read. I actually like this version of the song better then the original with traditional instruments mixed in.

Secret My Lips, is one of my favourite Band Maid songs, so it was great when they released this version on April 1st. You have reacted to one, Wagakki Band songs, so I recommend you try another song from them to get another mix of traditional Japanese instruments and rock.
