1976 was the 200th anniversary of the United States declaring their independance from England. The entire year was a big celibration. That's why Apollo was dressed up like Uncle Sam in an American flag.

Rocky lost the fight on points but it was a victory for Rocky in that he went the distance, No one had ever gone the distance with Apollo. All Rocky cared about was going the distance. But the biggest victory for Rocky was that he found love with Adrian. Rocky is a love story with some boxing. A truly amazing movie that is timeless.

Burt Young, who played Paulie in the Rocky franchise, was actually trained by Cus D'Amato (who trained Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson) and went 17-0 as a professional. According to Wikipedia: Young served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959. While in the Marine Corps, he won 32 of 34 boxing bouts. He later turned pro and compiled a 17-0 record under three different aliases. His manager was Cus D'Amato. 🇺🇸🥊

Came out in the 1970's. The steady cam was invented for this movie. Before cameras were too big and hate to be mounted on a rail system or vehicle. This is why you get the epic run up the stairs and the intimacy of the fight.

In 1976, I was in my Junior year of high school, and it was the Bicentennial Anniversary of America's freedom from British rule. The "Stars and Stripes" and "Red, White and Blue" were EVERYWHERE for that whole year. People who had flagpoles in their front yards were flying "Old Glory" day and night. Those who didn't have flagpoles went out and bought them. Even folks who couldn't afford to have poles installed were hanging the flag from tree branches and clotheslines (For those who don't know what one of those are, Google it). Fireworks were being set-off all year , not just on the 4th of July. Cars and motorcycles were repainted to look like the flag. All manner of clothes, especially sportswear, were made in an American flag motif. There were airshows, sailing regattas, and automobile road-trips, just to name a few. It was total madness ..... It was glorious!

Rocky is a love story. He wanted to earn his own self respect to prove he wasn't a loser. He knew he was outclassed by Creed and just wanted to be there at the end win or lose. As you mentioned, realistically Creed should have knocked him out. To win the championship on points is very difficult. Most fighters win the title by knocking out the champ. Eye of the Tiger is Rocky III. Rocky is played by Sylvester Stallone. His brother Frank Stallone is the leader of the guys singing on the street. Stallone's father is the bell man in the final fight.

The story about how Stallone got this made is as amazing as the film itself. He was struggling with money to the point having to sell his dog (THE Butkis in the film) because he couldn't afford to feed him. Wrote the screenplay and shopped it around but no one wanted him to star in it (he was an unknown), but the love the screenplay. He was offered $300,000 for the screenplay alone but he turned it down. Then finally found a studio that would let him play Rocky. Bought Butkis back (for more than he sold him for). Film was don't for $2 million before marketing. Film wins best picture, best directing, best editing in the Oscars. Best picture in the Golden Globes. Propelled Stallone to a household name.

Best Picture Oscar 1976. Arguably THE classic 70s sports film, and a very 70’s ending. According to 1/3 judges, Rocky beat Apollo. Glad you are having fun, Millie.

That's the beauty of the movie, rocky lost the fight but won. What was the focal point of his life meant nothing in the end compared to the love he found. in the end as you state, he did not care about the fight as much as he did Adrainne.

I think all the physical damage Rocky suffers is symbolic of the hard knocks he's suffered in life. Yet at the end of the fight there he is, still standing. That's why it counts as a win.

And it was actually a split decision with one of three judges breaking for Rocky---so actually a real success for a completely unranked fighter, and he got paid well for it. And he won the love of his life. Win/win.

Even though Rocky Lost the fight, He just wanted to go the distance (15 rounds) and be standing when the fight was over. He did it. And as he stated before the fight, if he could do that, then he would know, he was not just another bum from the neighborhood. No one expected him to last 3 rounds let alone 15.

After Rocky 2, with same training song, Gonna Fly Now, in every Rocky movie, but Silvester started directing in 2 besides writing story, so before Rocky 3, he loved band Survivor, and their radio hit Poor Man's Son, a great song on a great album. He called band writer, asked him for a song for movie, writer asked for script, after saying no many times, last minute agreed, because in script of Rocky 3, someone kept telling Rocky he needed to be back stronger and harder in brain, the eye of the tiger, need to get it back....said it few tines, the song came alive, a world hit, made band famous, and 40+ years later, you thought of that song in first movie. Have to wait for 3rd, but worth it, more good songs in Rocky movies after, including 4th, same ask, script, Survivor gave another hit song, Burning Heart...words, Two worlds collide, Rival nations it's a primitive clash, Venting years of frustration.....new singer, great like first. First 4 Rocky movies are great, 5 terrible, never watched..then final Rocky Balboa, a great end of him boxing.Youll like 2 even better, many favorite of them. After you watch 3rd, go to RU-vid and watch the video of song, you'll see the band and great singer and guitar player, piano player writes songs, and drummer great also. Since you play bass, he's good, even better in Burning Heart , which after watching 4, watch video, both songs are all about the movies, so don't want to hear words before watching! Looking as cute as ever 😍

The "Rocky" Movies are movies about Relationships and Personal Growth, with a little Boxing thrown in...... Actually Butkis was his dog, he had sold the dog before the movie and bought it back when he got the movie deal....... The scene where Rocky points out the shorts are the wrong color, was added cause the printer messed up the poster/prop and they didn't have enough money left in the budget to correct it, Same thing with Rocky's robe being the wrong size..... So they wrote in dialogue to address it..... The Creed Movies happen after the Rocky Movies, the Creed Character is Apollo's Son......

This is a love story, with boxing as the backdrop. And a one time real pro fight, it's based on. RIP to the great Carl Weathers, Apollo Creed! Some Rocky facts! Pauly was only 34-35 when he started rocky, so he was only like 5 years older than Stallone! when he started this series U really should watch any documentary on how this got made!! Broke, almost homeless, sold his dog...for real!😮The dog was his real dog!...wrote the script in 3 weeks. Was asked big money(back then) to sell it, but not star in it. He always said no. Finally sold it for 30k to ABC TV. He was good friends with and done a movie a few years prior, with Henry Winkler. He became THE STAR of😊 abc tv in the show Happy Days, as the Fonz. He heard Stallone sold the script to ABC. Henry goes to the ABC heads and says, u don't GIVE me that script, I leave the show....they gave it to him! Stallone never made a ton of money on the rockymovies. Only as a writer actor choreographer. He got ripped off by the first producer, who bought the rights and rocky name, and never sold it back to Stallone, though he's made billions! Based on a real tune up fight, for Ali. He was going to fight Frazier later in the year, for the title, but he wanted a tune-up fight. He fought against Chuck Wepner, a journeyman tomato can bleeder, who was good, but never top 10 ranked. And he damn near knocked Ali out!😮 The guy singing outside, is his real brother Frank!😮 The first guy he fights in this movie, Spider, shows up in Rocky Balboa or Creed! The teenage girl he talks to, also comes back in one of those movies! Adrian is the sister in godfather!😮😮😮😮 Gazzo, his boss, also in godfather 1-2! Stallone almost died in 4, because Drago, actually cracked his ribs, puntured a lung, punctured his heart sac! Drago in real life, has multiple masters PhD in engineering! The blonde wife of Drago, shows up in Creed 2 and so does Drago, and Stallone actually married that woman, and had beautiful daughters with her! Tommy Morrison in part 5 was a real boxer and could have been the greatest ever, but drugs and booze got him. In 3 Clubber got the role, by winning a Tough man contest! In 3 hulk Hogan, hit Stallone for real in the back of his shoulders with his forearm, and moved vertebrae. Dennis Quaid did a amateur tough guy boxing movie, kind of based on the Clubber Lang actor, that was very good, called Tough Enough! and busted his lip open! There was never going to be a 2, but this movie made so much money, win Oscars, etc., Stallone wrote a sequel! When he was accepting an Oscar for this movie on stage, Ali comes up, grabs him, fakes punches at him and says, "u stole this movie idea from me!" Paulie has done a couple other great movies, Rob the Mob, and Pope of Greenich Village! Adrian is part of the Coppola family.... Francis Ford, Nick Cage, Sophia Coppola... maybe her daughter! What 1 and 2 are really, the ultimate love story! U can go see the Rocky statue in Philly! The mistake of colors he's wearing, in the auditorium, was due to a mistake and money problems, so they kept it in, and had the dialogue reflect this! Watch all but u can skip 5, finish the Rocky series, then go to Creed! The Great fight ever... middleweight Ray...boom boom Mancini vs Duk ku Kim,... outdoors, Caesars palace. Outdoors. Went the distance. Slug fest. Kim died in the ring. He fought the last round with a busted blood vessel in his brain. Fights went to twelve after that. Cinderella Man is a great True story movie about a depression Era boxer!

Rocky lost a split decision. Meaning one judge had Rocky winning the title whereas the other two outvoted the one and had Creed doing enough to win the fight and keep the title. This means, unlike subsequent Rocky movie in which Rocky loses every round until coming on at the end, Rocky did well in this fight.

Hey, Miller. One thing you consider in watching older movies before your time is that they serve as a time capsule. Notice the things that are different or absent that are a part of your life bow. Cell phones, computers, the cost of things like food, gas, and wages in general. Social norms like men pursuing women. I'm 65 and remember a world far different than today. The music, movies, art, and way of life was far, far, better before social media and the awkwardness of being afraid of everything and anyone. We were raised to not conform. Because the individual was celebrated. To be an individual today will get you canceled. But you got the basic plot, and that's most important. A few suggestions for future reactions for your channel. TO SIR, WITH LOVE. GREASE, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, & M.A.S.H. should be enough to get to started. I haven't subscribed yet. I'll decide after you finish with Rocky. But, it looks good so far. Keep going and enjoy
