Austin S Oh God yes. I got chocked up at that. It almost didn't seem real that she wasn't in the picture this time around. So sad to think of Rocky alone without her.
@@willyhwang1059 earlier we see him painting at the meat plant. I’d assume they’re the paintings he made while working and subsequently took with him when he was fired
Believe me it is not easy to lose one sibling or to lose one's family. I should know because when my grandmother passed away I would have given anything for God to take five years off my life so she could live longer. Because every time I go to my aunts house I see a chair that she once used to sit in and even though it's an empty chair it's still not easy to look at because when she was there sitting in that chair it felt like home was not ugly because when she was there it felt like I was at home
He signed my hand at a con when I was a kid. I didn’t have any money, she asked if I had anything I wanted signed I said no just wanted to say hi. Called me a good kid and signed my hand
That damn music came on in the scene of Rocky 3 where Rocky was riding his motorcycle angry at Mickey for fixing his fights so that he could stay on top (hence Rocky throwing his helmet against his statue) while at the same time feeling like it was his fault that he forced Mickey to manage him one last time causing Mickey to die (after getting shoved by Clubber Lang prior to the fight).
Thomas Erlandsen That is debatable but I can see it both ways; just not knowing how to show his love, or evolving over time but never being able to take back his past mistakes and abusive/crude nature and losing her. Either way, he has come full circle in this movie and it is indeed heartwrenching.
This definitely should have been in the movie. It really explores Paulie's character and it reflects what a lot of people go through when losing loved ones. Very powerful and moving scene.
Ya got any Beeman's? There was a part of this scene but not all of it. An emotional scene but it looks like this all entails a subplot of Paulie moving in/out of Rocky’s, which they ultimately decided to do away with.
One of the greatest things about Rocky was his heart; both the will to get up and stand tall no matter how often he was knocked down and his generosity to others, you don't see hate in his motives toward others just kindness. After everything life took away from him he is still kind.
Yes, there are many good moral lessons found in the Rocky films, and one that is not often talked about is how such a tough guy like Rocky truly possesses a kind and merciful heart, even toward his "enemies" in the ring. He doesn't behave hatefully toward them; he does his talking with his fists inside the ring. Outside the ring, he shows people kindness, gentleness, and tolerance -- even toward guys like Paulie, whom most people would scorn.
+Uniform Tango 74 I could not have put it better myself. I was a little girl when I first saw "Rocky" and now that I am a middle aged woman I love that I got to see "Rocky Balboa" and I can't wait to see "Creed". :)
If Rocky had a strong chance to win an oscar it was from this movie and especially THIS FKING SCENE.. Don't worry Sly, greatest actors don't win oscar. Who the fuck will remember mark rylance in 10 years?! 20 years?! We love you Rock..
Critics can say whatever they want but when an actor can inspire, touch and excite many generations, for decades, well, he is a great, awesome, talented actor. Period.
The part where Rocky took Paulie’s hand and said “you’re still my best friend” is what opened the flood gates🥺😢😭 Despite all the shit, all the frustration and heartache, these two had a bond that was unbreakable.
For sure! Amazing scene, one of the scenes that gives non rocky fans and of course rocky fans that the rockey series are about life itself and how wide the movies series are with many elements in it.
I cried so hard the first time I saw this scene on the DVD. I have had moments like that with people I love, Its hard to hear them hurt so much, or be the one hurting, But to have friends who will go through it with you... Means the world to know you can count on each other to get back to the good times and work through the bad.
Just shed a few tears to this. Adrian was so sweet and kind and was so loyal to Rocky. Paulie was kind and sweet too but rough around the edges because he was lonely. Rocky had to know that to some degree to keep Paulie around for so long. R.I.P. Mick, Apollo, and Adrian.
I think they thought that in this scene they overcooked Pauly's role with the crying and dialogue and it broke away from his character too much and rather than redo it they just deleted it.
R Hirshi I think this was a good scene for him to break his character. Not all of us stay the same when something terrible happens, we all break. This could've been a great scene where he shows how broken he is in that moment.
***** Yeah but the guys he mainly roughed up were thugs and criminals that owed Gazzo money. I also remember Gazzo getting angry at Rocky for not breaking the guy's thumbs.
Joe Lazarus Yes, but even then, being a loan shark isn't legal, and Rocky assaulted the thugs unprovoked. In a criminal world, not even defending yourself will save you from a charge.
***** Grazzo was the loan shark and Rocky was his enforcer. Rocky followed orders and it was a job that he hated doing since he didn't have an education...but he needed to eat. The scene where he declined to follow Gazzo's orders to break the guy's thumbs was meant to show the type of character he is. I'm not saying he was a walking saint or christ himself... Just that he in general was not a bad person with a malicious nature who hurt or bullied ppl for no reason. He just wanted to better his life and rise above all that to be somebody. He worked so hard and took a lot of beatings just to lose it all in the end. Lost his family...His own son who's the only living relative he has left didn't even bother to stop by and visit him. Rocky deserved better and I hope Creed jr gives it to him in their new journey.
I was so sad when I saw this movie, to know Adrian was dead. Their love was so genuine and cute. And even though Paulie was a real jerk in the first one, gradually you could tell he did love his sister throughout the Rocky movies. Very sad scene, they should have kept it, it showed how much Paulie grew.
You never know how important family members mean to you until they disappear from your life. Such is the case of both Rocky and Paulie without the lovely Adrian. She has had so much love for the both of them, and to see Paulie agonizing over his sister's death always tears me up inside. Rocky feels it the worst because she was his motivation to never give up on her or his dreams.
Pualie was actually a very smart guy, he stayed with adrian because he felt he needed to be around her, he began to hate the fact that he needed to look after her all his life, but it was his sister, adrian then met rocky and her confidence grew. paulie met alot of women but never the right one. paulie was more intelligent than rocky and he was also in the navy i think, if you look in rocky 1 in paulie and adrians house, paulie even tells adrian he never got married because of her and needing to look after her.
I’m 27 years old and grew up watching the Rocky films. This is absolutely heartbreaking to see these characters grow old and pass on leaving us behind.
"I miss my sister" he treated her bad and like trash most times. This message is a normal constant thing that happens everyday and we never value what we have until it's gone
Watching this brings back tears to my eyes... The sorrow of losing my wife really makes me lost my mind. Took me 3 years dealing with the 'stuff in the basement'. Now after 5 years, some of the 'stuff' still remains there. 😭
What a great movie series... I’m only 20, but I can imagine how emotional this would make someone who came of age when Rocky came out back in 76, watches this 30 years later as a 50 year old
More people die in the Rocky series than in the Sopranos. As a kid, it was really devastating to me when Mickey and Apollo died. Sort of bizarre that they killed off Adrian and Paulie, though. It's like, why?
JohnLoCicero to show that as time goes on Rocky will lose people in his life because that's how the real world works. It was more of a show of Rocky's humanity than his boxing
Mahogany Magik No I know. I just remember both of those deaths really rocking me as a kid. Mickey and then Apollo was a lot to take in 3 and 4. And I agree with you about Rocky's humanity being the real key to the character.

JohnLoCicero it shows that time moves on all you have to do is fight ...rocky even said it ..the older i get the more i leave behind , thats life ! so true
So then in the future Rocky would tell Adonis that he has kept losin' and losin' and says " oh what the hell am I doing around here, I got no reason to go on. But with you kid (Adonis), boy I got a reason
This movie almost made me cry, it really made a big man feel him. Love the Rocky saga and it will forever be the best movies ever! Can't wait for creed 3 :)
It made me cry too! What really makes this movie stand out is the fact that those two actors carried much of the scenes(by themselves ) so well. It takes great talent to hold an audience's attention, and they pulled it off incredibly well. Sly Stallone has a rare talent for bringing out the emotions in people. The critics tore this apart, but what do they know? It worked for me.
I love Adrian in the Rocky movies, she seems so small but so big, she's played a big part, she was the backbone to Rocky heart and soul and so much more ,without Adrian there wouldn't be no Rocky
Of all the movies ever made I am glad that I have been around to watch this and to see what comes of these characters. From Rocky to the new Creed movies. Probably the best movie franchise in my lifetime. I have truly enjoyed it. Who hasn’t left a Rocky movie all pumped up and punching the air in the theater parking lot.
***** Didn't add much, you got Paulie: a jerk and a bum. Who treated Adrian like crap, but deep down cared for everyone and didn't know how to show it. Finally shows it! I've never seen him so remorseful for mistreating Adrian and Rocky. Even after costing them millions
What's age got to do with emotion? That's a massive part of the problem in this day. People having to share their age or stage of life and not how they truly feel. It's pathetic and sad. Hope you figure it out. Take care.
What a beautiful scene. Absolutely gutted they didn’t include this in the movie. We all know Paulie despite his certain ignorances and temper has a big heart he’s just always been down on his luck. This scene is just as important as Rocky’s scenes at the start of the movie remembering Adrian. These movies for me has always been about the characters and I feel like this scene truly showed us paulies heart at its fullest. Regardless, beautiful movies and beautiful characters that have stuck with me since i was ten years old and i’m sure they will until I die ❤️
Why was this deleted? It easily elevates the entire movie to something greater than what it originally was. Old school Rocky fans watched the movies for moments like this.
They should've found a way to keep this in the film. Deep down Paulie had a good heart it was just frozen. He truly loved Adrian and yes at times was jealous of Rocky but also loved Rocky. They were both family to him
i grew up with these movies and have watched them from start to end several times in my box set. Each time it upsets me with the sad moments. this clip was taken out of the movie and should of been left in. Renches my heart seeing this clip. x
This is beyond touching, this is true life from the deepest emotions and I'm no pushover. Stallone just captures the innermost feelings of realities, disappointments, heart and sincere love. It's as if he knows us all from the inside and brings it out on the big screen. Losing someone is a tear down of life. I sincerely appreciate this clip. Thank you.
Burt is incredible throughout the Rocky series. Rocky would not have been the same without Talia, Burt , Carl and Burgess. They really were an incredible group of actors that came together probably never realising they are a part of one of movie histories greatest franchises.
"Why didn't I die instead of my sister?" My thought exactly. Not that I don't love Paulie, but did the filmmakers have to kill off Adrian just for the sake of piling on poor Rocky?
LeonAmarantos Sorry, no. From Wikipedia: "Talia Shire's character Adrian Balboa was in the first few drafts of the script, then titled _Rocky VI: Puncher's Chance_. At this point, the story revolved around Rocky running a local gym for youths. However, Stallone felt that the film lacked the necessary emotional impact it needed. So, he and Shire came to an agreement that her character would be best left out of the film, as this would create an emotional chasm for Rocky from the very first moment of the film. To ensure that fans did not think she had been written out of the film because of a dispute with Stallone or because she refused to be in it, Shire made a public statement supporting Stallone's decision to kill off the character." So, _not_ Talia's decision; _Stallone's_ decision. And in my opinion, the _wrong_ decision.
Deadline Music I know the films; I've seen all of them at least 20 times each. And I still say that this film would've worked just as well with Adrian as it did without her. Hell, it worked in _Rocky IV_, with Adrian at first yelling "You can't win!" at Rocky and then, finally at the end, believing in him again. Plus which....well, here: there are a ton of films about young lovers, about young people meeting and falling in love (part of what the original _Rocky_ was about). But there aren't enough films about older people spending their twilight years together. That _could have_ been what this film was partly about. Who knows, it might have been more memorable and had plenty of emotion and heart, this idea of a spark rekindled. I'm sorry, I went rambling. But I think I made my point. Also something I would've liked to see in this film would've been Clubber Lang, now more humble, and he and Rocky as friends. Has that ever happened to anyone, someone you once considered a bitter enemy becomes your best friend? There aren't enough movies that have that element in them either.
They shouldn’t have deleted this scene: such a great scene that would’ve been great for a movie that was already great. All rocket movies was fantastically done.
Was really hard to watch this movie the other day. Ive seen it before but my mother was still alive. Before this scene made me think of my brother. And now it makes me think about my mother. I know exactly how paulie felt.
Stallone said that Adrian was a massive character in Rocky Balboa even though she wasn’t in it. She’s a massive presence, which is part of what makes it so good.
The way Adrian says "Yo" back to Rocky. ❤ I watched the original recently and caught that for the first time. Rocky made it safe for Adrian to open up.
