I think you two are the first reactors I have seen who gets Paulie’s character. Most just think he is an asshole (which he is). But he is a good guy and cares about his friends and family in his own misguided way.

3:00 yes...that is, in my opinion, what makes this movie so good, is the compelling, sympathetic and even heroic character of Apollo. It would have been so easy to make him out a villain, but he was a layered, complex, and relatable antagonist that you admire despite wanting Rocky to overcome him.

Apollo didn't pace himself, and this against the only fighter to go the distance with him... Tony (Apollo's trainer) NEVER underestimated Rocky, not since he saw him pounding a side of beef on tv.

Burt Young, who played Paulie in the Rocky franchise, was actually trained by Cus D'Amato (who trained Floyd Patterson and Mike Tyson) and went 17-0 as a professional. According to Wikipedia: Young served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959. While in the Marine Corps, he won 32 of 34 boxing bouts. He later turned pro and compiled a 17-0 record under three different aliases. His manager was Cus D'Amato. 🇺🇸🥊

Just wait till you see Rocky 3. Had they stopped at 3 it would be in the discussion for greatest trilogy of all time.

This fight is kinda similar to a real fight that happened between Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcot for the heavy weight title. Walcot (champ) hit Rocky (undefeated) in the first round hard enough to drop Rocky for the first time in his career. Rocky got up to continue fighting but was losing so badly to Walcot that the only way for Rocky to win was by knockout. Well, Rocky finally had Walcot up near the ropes and both boxers threw a right hand at nearly the same time, but Rocky's right landed first and with such force it knocked out Walcot. Walcot went limp and falls down face first. this knockout happened in round #13. back then, fights lasted 15 rounds....today its 12. So "lucky 13" was the round that Rocky won the heavyweight title. Rock Balboa's character is kinda written after Rocky Marciano in some ways. Both fight in a similar manner (brawler) and they have this knack for taking punishment but delivering crushing punches. Especially body shots. Also, in interviews both men are very kind and only have praises to say about their opponent.

PLEASE continue the Rocky movies!!!

I heard ppl say that Rocky 1 is basically a underdog achieving his goals against all odds, rocky II however is that athlete, and by extension stallone, proving that he wasnt a fluke. Can this guy survive the reality of his 15 seconds of fame? The best part is that rocky acts like a real person, how many ppl actually waste their money and go back to the what they were before? If Rocky 2 failed, then we dont get the franchise and stallone may have been a mostly b-list actor Rocky 2 proved that what happened wasnt by chance or pure luck, it was a journey that was magical. The next rocky movies all the way to Creed will tell the tale of rocky, how he changed pop culture, and how stallone changed as well. Plus i love how apollo gets more time. he still isn't a villain, and i do like how it adds real life events that would propel apollo to challenge rocky again-specifically the fact that he did almost lose to a admittedly less talented boxer and the racism did bother him.

I haven’t seen this movie in a long time. Your reaction reminded me how good it is. The characters, the writing, the scenes. It’s really well put together. It’s emotional and makes you happy by the end. The scenes of Rocky trying to do other jobs besides boxing, only to realize that boxing was probably the only thing he was really good at. And though it may cost him what health he has left, he’s willing to risk it all to provide for himself and his family. It’s an underdog story that I think a lot of regular everyday people that work jobs they may not want to, can relate to in some way.

I believe the "Two kinds of loving!" song was written and released by Slys brother, not a big hit but one of the few things in the film done as a small favour by Stallone.

You guys should really check out Sylvester Stallone's 1974 movie "The Lords of Flatbush" he plays a 50's gang member. This is one of those movies before he became the big movie star that we all know him to be today.

My fave of the series. IMO Rocky had to win this way in the story, cause his whole character is about getting back up -- sheer persistence -- when life knocks him down. That's what you get if you want to get a high school diploma and don't realize it until you're too old to go to high school.
