Billy, you have to put yourself in the time period in which this was...60’s, 70’s not acceptable at all. This is a beautiful tribute from Rod to tell Georgie’s story as it was.

I was a young child when this song came out and it helped shape the way I viewed the world and others in it, as good music with a story to tell can do.

Billy, I'm a 55yr old father of 9 who grew up in the 70s and 80s, the stigmatism of being gay evolved so much in that time. Today most couldn't care one way or the other, so long as you're a good person, I don't care if you're gay, straight, black, white, brindle...... it doesn't matter, the person you are does. Just my opinion mate, have a good one, cheers.

Brother man... it's not stupid. Its beyond brilliant. The melody of the song is meant to communicate the beauty of life and love that transcends all tragedy and differences we have. It did matter.... but it didnt. George led his life.. saw his truth was loved and appreciated and beguiled at the same time. The melody is tempo is perfect... it does make it trivial... but its meant to.... because he is saying it's a story told many times and many different ways.... but it's a story of us all

Thank you for your review. Screw the idiots who are taking issue. This song has come to light as Rod's last tour. He was extremely brave to come out with this. It is impossible not to get teary. The song Isn't about Boy George but incidentally his mum bought the album and quietly tucking it in his drawer, acknowledging she knew he was gay and okay with it.

This is not the first time I heard Rod Stewart, and it was certainly not the last. I always enjoyed his radio hits. Then I met my first husband in 1977 and he had the album "A Night on the Town". It was an awesome record all the way around, but I was extremely impressed by The Killing of Georgie parts I and II. There were not a lot of pro-gay songs around and it was heartening to see that Rod had the integrity to write this one.

Imagine what a touchy subject this was in the mid 70’s You were kinda down on the chorus that it was maybe lighthearted But listen to it again You might change your mind And the part 1 is telling Georgies story and celebrating his life

This song is from the 70's and coming from Rod (obviously straight) the song reached out to many people (like me) who were straight too. I was 15 years old and it really made me open my eyes and empathise with people who were different to me. I feel grateful for that.

Billy, Billy, Billy.. I was looking to listen to the killing of Georgie and your page popped up so I thought I'd give it a listen, you are amazing! I'm so glad I came across you. And I'm so glad to hear your thoughts about about this, I believe in live and let live as well. I'm a 98 pound girl and Rod Stewart has been my favourite, absolute favourite since I was in 4th grade… I can't tell you how many fights I got into to defend the fact that people were saying he was gay… who flippin cares if he is or not? What does it matter to you (the people)? How does it impede their life?? There are haters out there and it's very disturbing! You rock, I really dug everything you had to say, I normally do not hit subscribe on these but you, I am fo sho subscribing to because you are just cool as hell, or should I say... you so crazy! Thanks for doing what you do! And how about a reaction for Cinderella's (band) 'one for rock n roll' and 'Something to believe in' by Poison when u have time… have a great day and stay as you are ... positive and unbiased!

One thing I’ve always felt about this song is that it isn’t necessarily about George being killed because he was gay. I’ve always felt that Rod is saying that it was nothing more than a random act of violence. The gangs only aim was to rob sn innocent passerby. He didn’t intend to take his life, he just pushed his luck a little too far. I could be wrong on this, I’d be happy to hear your opinions.

I often wonder too. Either it would have been too shocking to actually sing about gay bashing/murder in a song so was toned down or it reflects what straight people say to avoid 1st degree murder... and this does still happen today.

Billy...you are correct in that the music doesn't somehow fit the dialogue. But that's what's intended. It's meant to conflict...just like how our society is conflicting with this culture. So..don't be upset by it. Understand where it's coming from. Good work Billy.

Georgie wasn't killed because he was gay. He was kicked out of his home because he was gay but his dying had nothing to do with being gay. He was attacked by a gang for no other reason than they were just looking for someone to rob. Georgie put up a fight and hit his head on the sidewalk and died as a result. Being gay was just a side story to how he died. Still a great song, though. it will make you think.

I'm sorry you and your friends were attacked for being gay. That's not right but i stand by my comment that Georgie wasn't attacked because he was gay. He was attacked because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His being gay had nothing to do with it. @@gilrobison9838

7:40 minutes of the video: I was 7 years old when this song came out and my mom played this record 100's of times. Georgie wasn't killed because he was gay, he was walking down the streets of New Year late at night and he was being robbed and as the song saw's "didn't mean to take his life" as his head hit the curb when he fell.

Due he wasn't killed for being gay, he was a random victim of of violence. The gang had no idea he was gay, they were just looking for a victim to rob. Georgie just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Georgie was actually in a place where he was accepted just the way he was. The tragedy of the story was for the fist time in his life he was happy and accepted by others only to have his life taken by group of thugs right when he had found happiness....... Listen to the song again closely.......

I like your interpretation and think you're spot on with the sad irony of George finding love only to die so soon after, but to me the lyrics do suggest that the gang knew George was gay. I have always taken the lyrics: "Deciding to take a short cut home/Arm in arm they meant no wrong" as the song suggesting that George and his boyfriend being arm in arm, as the gang came across them, and knowing what kind of negative attention that would have drawn in '75, especially by a New York gang, was exactly why they were harassed and why George was ultimately attacked and killed.

Hey Billy. I Luv yer vids and I've been subscribed since the first one I saw. I realize that I'm not a Patron, but if you want a conversation, I'm curious about what you meant when you said that women should have the right to choose but men should have an equal right? Since men can't get pregnant, I'm wondering how that works in your ideology? I'm not trying to start an argument, I just wonder what your idea of 'equal' is in a circumstance where it can't exist?

I have always listened to this song as you think he's going to be killed because he's gay but he isn't. It's a street robbery gone wrong. Was never nothing to do with him being gay. The moral of the story is he lived as he wanted i.e. coming out. I may be wrong but this is how I've always heard it. Love rod (not all songs "if you think I'm sexy"🤣). You should listen to young Turks next! Amazing story telling again.
